chapter 2
"Hurry! Follow me!" Ananucas's voice rang sharply through the cold underground tunnels. Skolris could hear his feet pattering all the way from where her, Antariel, and Nymos were. The air was freezing in the spring air and Skolris couldn't resist to shiver.
When they finally burst out of the cold tunnels, leaving the stale air behind her, Skolris could see Ananucas scanning the ocean. When the group trudged tiredly up to him and also peered over the ocean she could just make out a dark black figure that resembled a ship.
Ananucas turned to them, his dark eyes lit by the moonlight,"your journey may begin now. Find their base and report back to us. We will be awaiting your return until the moment you leave this island." He said before dipping his head and gesturing towards the ship.
Nymos stepped forward,"if we may get captured and don't come back, I.. we would like to thank you for your help and shelter." He said before shifting into his majestic falcon. Skolris couldn't help admiring his beautiful feathers and how easily he had shifted.
Antariel followed with becoming a tiny blue bird and Skolris shifted last. She allowed her friends to show off and shifted into a plain sparrow. Ananucas flashed them a last charming smile before turning away and heading back towards the tunnels.
Nymos flapped his large brown wings once and to the air. Antariel lifted off second and Skolris last to bring up the rear. They flew on the breeze nonstop until the group was just over the ship.
It was large and when they got there, it was anchored at the largest island in the chain. The sails were huge with a black symbol painted onto it: a serpent wrapped around a sword. The same symbol was on the side to.
Skolris allowed Nymos to become the leader and he dove down towards the ship. "Skolris, since you're small and brown you will blend in more. I want you to go down and scout out the ship for people and weapons." Nymos instructed.
Skolris nodded and folded her wings to dive downwards. It was pitch black in the boat so she allowed herself to see in yhe dark. She wound around wooden poles and under floor boards but nothing was found. There was not a single person or weapon aboard the boat.
Skolris gave up and met Nymos and Antariel up by the sails. They were perched on another wooden support while they waited for her."nothing." She reported. Right when Antariel was about to open her mouth to talk, a large explosion echoed across the air followed by muffled screaming.
Immediately they were off and racing towards the noise. Were we to late? Have we made a mistake? Skolris would have teleported there but she was to scared and shocked to do so. she couldn't feel the biting cold anymore as she flapped her small brown wings. when they finally made it to the explosion, it was just like the first attack but with different images. they were lined up among rows: hundreds of vampires and water wielders. there were even imaged bonds to.
its like fighting a giant Nymos because he is now Vampire and Water wielder . Nymos took one look at the line before he dove down and began biting and scratching one vampire. "stay in one form, Antariel. make the best of being a bluebird." Skolris said before diving down herself to attack one image. I won't make the mistake of overpowering or people will make a big deal out of me. she thought as she dive bombed a water wielder. her small form didn't do much but it did make it easier to dodge attacks. "Retreat!" a booming voice rose up from the clamor.
it brought all the images to a stop and sent them sprinting towards the jungle. "GO!" Nymos shouted and Skolris and Antariel bolted in his direction. The images were packing onto the large ship that was anchored to the shore. Skolris turned towards Nymos and dipped her head and turned it towards the sail poles in a silent gesture saying "lets watch from up there". She repeated it to Antariel and they soared towards there perch.
After every image was boarded on the boat the anchor was lifted by a person on the boat and they began to move. Skolris began to feel wary after a few minutes on the boat. It was still pitch black, she was worried about the attacked people, and it was hard to stay on the smooth piece of wood.
They were about an hour into the journey and no land was in sight. Nobody had noticed them on the sails and Skolris was relieved by that fact. The wind was howling around them and a small sprinkle had started to fall. She fluffed up her brown feathers and Antariel followed and after, Nymos.
By then, sunlight was just barely peaking over the horizon. It seemed to be a forever stretching ocean that reflected the pink sky. It seemed like they had been upon the ocean for hours and Skolris felt like stretching her wings.
"Lets fly for a bit." She suggested. Antariel agreed and she lept into the sky. Nymos followed her after she also lifted off the sail. Skolris was aware of some curious gazes from on the deck probably wondering why the falcon didn't devour the sparrow and blue bird for the first time.
They still followed the ship but instead of sitting and watching, they chased eachother around the sky. The sun illuminated their way so they could easily avoid eachother and other birds. Skolris couldn't help but stare at the way the sun turned Nymos's feathers and beautiful golden. Does he feel the same way i feel about him?
Antariel swooped in front of Skolris. They were a little ways away from Nymos so he couldn't hear them," ooooh, Skolris." She said while moving the spot on her blue head where eyebrows were supposed to be,"looks like someone's single and ready to mingle." She said in high, girly voice.
Skolris looked away embarrassed,"well, i guess... you could say that."
