Burning Men
Proverbs 6:27
Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?
We came to the altar to see a burning man...and boy did he burn ever so brightly...his brilliant flame setting off sparks in our hearts..setting them on fire. As he burnt incense we ascended with it...as he spoke of heaven we were transported there.
But not all of us saw the flames. We felt the scintillating heat but as quickly as it warmed our hearts was as quick as they turned cold when we left. We could perceive his words were weighty but never felt that weight being shouldered on our souls ..as some men could.
And even some of us that saw the fire...failed to grasp the source of heat that lit him up so... even when it was right in front of us...and did shine ever so brightly
Nonetheless we wanted to... to leave as fiery as the flames we saw...to cause other men to burn within themselves...as we did.
And ahh....did we see it... but the flame we sought was not a flame....not a what...but a Who
For whom we have become as nothing in the eyes of those that once esteemed us...for whom we have appeared shackled and weak before those who feared us...for whom our lives dance with danger daily... death having embraced us...when we forfeited our very selves to Him..and do continuously forfeit....because we saw more than flame...felt more than fire.
His depth of speech carried more experience than words could allow....and yet He kept speaking...and how sweet it was to listen...how sweet it was to be overtaken..
How could we have described Him to the world...with the embarrassingly vague vocabulary it allowed us... so as much as we spoke...they couldn't understand... they that were swayed by the beauty of words...the physical things....that they couldn't comprehend a world without them....to them we were sent from a world without...
To speak eternity to those captive in time...who expected us to address them from their experience....and as long as we did so ...we only managed short fixes... for their nature was thicker than their blood... So for blood ...we bled... as He did... as it was spilled so ours could flow on forever..
And we will continue to bleed ...as much for their sake as it is for His....for our blood is in the testament.
