[ JOHN B VOICE-OVER ]

✹ . . . AH, THERE SHE IS, LILLA MORALES-GREY. Right, you don't know who I'm talking about. She's the girl getting out of the overpriced car with her overpriced clothes on and going towards the country club, where all of the people who like overpriced things go to hang out and do their overpriced things. [...] Am I saying 'overpriced' too much?

That car that I mentioned, yeah, it's hers, and it's a freaking BMW, y'know, that expensive German brand of car. It's probably one of the nicest cars you'll see on the island. She got it brand new, completely paid for her sixteenth birthday, so about two years ago, give or take.

Oh, and look, her brother, Dante, is with her. That's not unusual. Those two have been inseparable since birth. They're twins, so that's not too wild. And... whoa, what a surprise! He's also wearing overpriced clothes.

Anyway, back to what I was saying and why we're here in the first place. Lilla may seem like your typical spoiled rich girl who uses Daddy's money to get whatever she wants, which in some ways she is, but that's not completely true. I say completely, very, very loosely. She is that typical girl, but not to the extent that most people on both sides of the island believe.

Working for Ward Cameron has given me the advantage of being close to her, and I guess growing up with her in the Cut for a while helped too, though she's a totally different person now. Having the advantage of being close to her in the sense that I can see what she's really like, not in any other way. She's not my type. I've observed her whenever I work on Ward's boat, so I've seen how she is behind closed doors, or whatever.

Not in a creepy way, I swear! [...] This sounds extremely wrong.

Right, well. She's just a regular teen; the only thing that makes her different from me and the Pogues (let's exclude Kiara here) is that she has the advantage of having money. Not just having money, but growing up with it. Never having to worry about having food on the table, a roof over her head, running water, or even the power turned on once she and her family moved to Figure Eight. That is one of her only advantages; besides that, she's just as hated by the Kooks as me and my crew are.

She's known as the Rich Bitch of the island. Everyone says it, including herself, though I'm sure she's joking, y'know, making fun of the people who actually see her like that. Yeah, that girl has a sense of humor, for sure. I think.

The only, and I mean only, people that don't call her "The Island's Rich Bitch" are her best friend, Sarah Cameron, and her family, of course. She'd probably smack her brother silly if he dared call her that.

Lilla and Sarah, the girl that people call "The Kook Princess," have been best friends for, like, forever, I guess. I don't know the exact timeline, but I just know that anytime I see one of them, the other is close behind. It never fails.

Honestly, I have no clue why they're friends. Sarah is the Kook Princess, but she is more of a free-spirited, I would like to go catch butterflies type of girl, whereas Lilla is, well, Lilla.

Sure, she can be nice when she wants to. But I doubt I would ever hang out with her. I mean, I'm a Pogue, she's a Kook; we're totally different people. She's all, "Look at me, look at me." And I'm all like, "Please shut the hell up." It might work, maybe. (I'm entirely sure that it wouldn't.) I don't know.

But (big word right there), if we ever did end up hanging out, I know that we would have one specific thing in common. We both hate Rafe Cameron, Sarah's older brother and the Kook Prince of the island.

I hate him because he's a total douchebag. But Lilla's reason (or reasons) are completely unknown to me. I mean, he's her best friend's brother. What could he have done to get on her bad side?

It's honestly funny because everyone, yes, including me, thought that they would eventually get together. We literally have a bet on it (and it's still running for that off-chance).

It was something about how they interact with each other, like they're two people who loathe each other so much but also want to jump each other's bones. But Lilla—oh boy, the way she talks about him when he's not around. That's not a good thing before you get any ideas.

I've seen firsthand just how much she hates him. Maybe that's the reason she doesn't like him; she's been around him too much. Who knows? Oh, yeah, no one.

Right, back on topic. Lilla and Rafe may seem like the perfect match; they're both Kooks who are notoriously known for their attitude problems and massive egos; they're both hella rich; and they know each other well. But I don't think they'll ever be able to be around each other without wanting to scratch each other's eyes out.

But, who knows? Maybe one day they'll get together. Falling for someone is, most of the time, never a pick-and-choose situation. Sometimes you can't help it. You can't help who you have feelings for or find attractive. Some may not understand it—hell, you might understand it.

Anyway, at least for now, I know neither one of them will be going after the other. [...] I wonder how Sarah would react to her best friend and brother getting together. I'd like to be a fly on that wall.

Is that weird to say?
