Chapter 6

A few days pass before Helen Cho is able to make it over to the Tower, where she finds a rowdy bunch, including an entire team of Avengers, seated at the table having breakfast.

All of the faces are familiar by this point, except for one. There's a boy seated towards the end between Steve and Clint, whose head is topped by an unruly mop of rich black hair, and his face is covered in a mischievous smile.

Only Natasha and Bruce seem to notice her arrival. The rest are turned to the new addition. The boy's hand is held above his head and away from Clint, fingers clutching a fork topped with two pancakes dripping in syrup. The archer, with an empty plate in front of him, is trying unsuccessfully to use his fork to take the sweet treat back, all without leaving his seat.

From the message she received from Steve, she knows that this boy is likely her latest patient.

Stepping forward, Dr. Cho clears her throat causing everyone to finally turn to her. A few like Steve, Clint, and the boy, look sheepish while Tony looks extremely amused.

"Dr. Cho," Steve says, standing to greet her. "Thank you for coming. Why don't you join us for breakfast and then you can look Percy over after."

So she sits and has a few pieces of toast even though she had already eaten. She takes the opportunity to observe the boy more closely. The report had mentioned a head wound that caused severe amnesia, damaged ribs, and many minor, healing scrapes and bruises.

She sees evidence of everything but the ribs now. Still, Percy laughs and jokes with those around him. His movements are sometimes hesitant but otherwise, he seems like the most laidback and carefree boy in the world.

After breakfast, which they leave for the others to clean up, Steve walks Dr. Cho and Percy down to the med way where she gives him a quick physical before focusing on the head wound more closely.

She can see that the impact had been harsh and, after examining the wound more closely, she makes him go through a few exercises to check his motor and cognitive functions.

After jotting down some notes, she smiles at Percy, whose leg has been bouncing for the last ten minutes. "I'd like to run some brain scans to try to see if I can figure out exactly what is causing your lack of memory prior to waking after the accident. However, those can wait for tomorrow morning. In the meantime, you are healing quite nicely and have not lost any apparent cognitive or motor function. Take the next few days to get comfortable with your environment. I'm guessing that your unconscious memory of everyday things may start to make a comeback here shortly. We'll know more after the scans though."

Percy looks relieved to be done and is already standing before she finishes speaking. She stops him before he can bolt. Quickly she jots down a prescription for a light pain medicine and even a sleeping pill (after a quick comment from Steve).

"Take it slow, Percy. I mean it, no roughhousing and gets lots of rest."

Then the demigod is gone, certainly moving at speeds that indicate he likely hadn't heard a word she said.

Dr. Cho sends an exasperated look to Steve, who returns it with a small smile. "I'll make sure he takes it easy."

--------------------

There are a few things the team is quickly learning about Percy, the first being that he cannot stay still.

"He is ADHD," Bruce notes idly, as he, Natasha, and Steve watch Percy sneaking up on Clint for the 3rd time that day (including his almost successful attempt at breakfast and the other one just after lunch). It's only been 30 minutes since his second try, but Percy is determined to discredit the spy's talents in some small way.

It's the day after Dr. Cho's visit and needless to say, Percy has not been resting despite everyone's best attempts. The more comfortable he gets with them, the more a playful and energetic teen emerges. The shyness and fear that had been present on his first day at the Tower has almost vanished.

Smiling, Natasha takes pity on Percy and calls, "Hey Clint, where are you taking us all to dinner?"

Her smile is playful when the other spy turns to look at her with a raised eyebrow, completely unamused. "There is no way I am trying to fill all of these endless pits."

Maybe not the most clever distraction in the world, but it's just what Percy needs. As Natasha's grin turns downright devilish, the globe of water that the demigod has managed to form above Clint's head as he sits down beside the man bursts.

Of course, the dark-haired teen remains dry, having gotten quite comfortable with the ability during his evening showers (he won't admit to anyone present that he likes to pretend he's that water-bending girl from the TV show he started watching yesterday).

The archer gasps and stands quickly, but it's too late. He's drenched, the water soaking into his clothes more than it probably should naturally and it's cold, damn it.

Quiet chuckles resonate in the area where the trio sits.

"Great reflexes, 007. Did you learn those in Spy School?" Percy says nonchalantly and by god, he sounds like Stark, all sarcasm and laid-back personality.

Clint glares over at him, but because he's soaked and starting to shiver, the effect is more like the look of an upset puppy. "You're just lucky you're injured and YOU!" He points accusingly at Nat. "I can't believe you would assist in this brutal attack against your partner."

"Good spies know how to pick their friends," she shoots back with a shrug, taking a long drink of her water. "You could learn something from him, Clint."

The way Steve's broad shoulders shake with his chuckles is almost as amusing as the baffled and affronted look her long-time friend is giving her. Her eyes sweep to Percy, who is positively glowing with happiness and warmth spreads through her chest.

After the archer has left, grumbling and complaining all the way, Percy drifts over to their little group. The bandages on his head were able to be taken off for good this morning, but his hair is as messy as ever as he brushes it away from his face. Definitely in need of a haircut.

Natasha gently bumps his shoulder. "Sleep with one eye open, Squirt."

"Oh, without a doubt." He responds with a large smile, not phased in the least by the nickname. "Jarvis is locking down the vents to my room and keeping an eye out as well."

She's not even surprised that he made friends with the AI. Percy's growing on them all and admittedly the team's been getting along a lot better since he arrived. Steve and Tony have only fought once and it was over what is considered appropriate food to give a growing teenager of all things. Bruce has also come out of his shell a little more, drifting closer to the group if only to keep an eye on Percy, but he's also been joining in more and more conversations.

The scientist is frowning in thought now, eyes on the dark-haired boy. "Percy..." The demigod turns to look at him. "When did you watch a James Bond movie?"

Percy's head cocks to the side in confusion, a pout on his lips like he's being faced with a quiz question over something he was never taught in class. "Watch what? I don't know what that is"

"A James Bond movie," Bruce repeats. "You just made a reference to the 007."
