Important Note

To whoever is reading this:

I initially thought that I would not give any justification. But I have to. Because it's not a matter of my own reputation by Yudhishthira's. Question has been raised on his character and I am bound to answer that.

The complain is, I'm showing him as perfect or too good. Well, my story is still in the beginning phase and he had not done anything wrong upto that point. If he has any fault before Lakshagriha, kindly do show me with proofs from BORI or KMG or Sanskrit version. If you cannot, then do not complain. I'm writing according to Vyasa's epic and I cannot invent non existing faults in Yudhishthira like other authors write. If you want to read about his faults, go to their stories. You will see how bad he (falsely) was. But don't come here.

Well, I am aware of his dark sides and that will be shown when my story will go there (if I continue at all). But are you aware of all his good sides?

Let us see what goodness I have shown here in him which is not true.

1. He loved his brothers.

Please, I can't give proof for this one because I have to copy paste the entire epic then which is not possible. You will see this everywhere in the epic, well, except a few days maybe, but my story is yet to reach there.

2. He was an excellent spearman.

Again, you will get the mention in the epic several times. Not only with spear, he was good in chariot driving and archery as well. In war Parvas you will find him countering all divine weapons used by Drona. Definitely it shows him as a great warrior and I have not written anything wrong.

3. He was an ideal ruler.

And the king of kings, Yudhishthira, whose sway extended over all, was possessed of every accomplishment and bore everything with patience. And, O king, whatever countries the celebrated and illustrious monarch conquered, the people everywhere, from Brahmanas to swains, were all more attached to him than to their own fathers and mothers.

-Sabha Parva, Lokapala sabhakhyayana parva

Now, one of my friends has pointed that he was a good ruler at Indraprastha. I assume she wants to mean that he was not a good ruler as a Yuvaraj and suddenly after becoming a king, he became a Dharmaraja all of a sudden. Let's see how he was as a Yuvaraj:

"Vaisampayana continued, 'After the expiration, O king, of a year from this, Dhritarashtra, moved by kindness for the people, installed Yudhishthira, the son of Pandu, as the heir-apparent of the kingdom on account of his firmness, fortitude, patience, benevolence, frankness and unswerving honesty (of heart). And within a short time Yudhishthira, the son of Kunti, by his good behaviour, manners and close application to business, overshadowed the deeds of his father."
- Aadi Parva, Jatugriha parva, Section CXLI

Point to be noted: Dhritarashtra made him Yuvaraj mainly because of his kindness to people. And his virtues are mentioned in text as you can see. I didn't invent them.

"Then the citizens, beholding the son of Pandu possessed of accomplishments, began, O Bharata, to speak of them in all places of public resort. And assembled in courtyards and other places of gathering, they talked of the eldest son of Pandu (Yudhishthira) as possessed of the qualifications for ruling the kingdom. And they said, 'Dhritarashtra, though possessed of the eye of knowledge, having been (born) blind, had not obtained the kingdom before. How can he (therefore) become king now? Then Bhishma, the son of Santanu, of rigid vows and devoted to truth, having formerly relinquished the sovereignty would never accept it now. We shall, therefore, now install (on the throne) with proper ceremonies the eldest of the Pandavas endued with youth, accomplished in battle, versed in the Vedas, and truthful and kind. Worshipping Bhishma, the son of Santanu and Dhritarashtra conversant with the rules of morality, he will certainly maintain the former and the latter with his children in every kind of enjoyment."

"The wretched Duryodhana, hearing these words of the parting partisans of Yudhishthira, became very much distressed. Deeply afflicted, the wicked prince could not put up with those speeches. Inflamed with jealousy, he went unto Dhritarashtra, and finding him alone he saluted him with reverence and distressed at (the sight of) the partiality of the citizens for Yudhishthira,"

"Prince Duryodhana said unto Dhritarashtra, 'Send, O father, by some clever contrivance, the Pandavas to the town of Varanavata. We shall then have no fear of them.' Dhritarashtra, on hearing these words uttered by his son, reflected for a moment and replied unto Duryodhana, saying, 'Pandu, ever devoted to virtue, always behaved dutifully towards all his relatives but particularly towards me. He cared very little for the enjoyments of the world, but devotedly gave everything unto me, even the kingdom. His son is as much devoted to virtue as he, and is possessed of every accomplishment. Of world-wide fame, he is again the favourite of the people. He is possessed of allies; how can we by force exile him from his ancestral kingdom? The counsellors and soldiers (of the state) and their sons and grandsons have all been cherished and maintained by Pandu. Thus benefited of old by Pandu, shall not, O child, the citizens slay us with all our friends and relatives now on account of Yudhishthira?"

"Duryodhana replied, 'What thou sayest, O father, is perfectly true. But in view of the evil that is looming on the future as regards thyself, if we conciliate the people with wealth and honours, they would assuredly side with us for these proofs of our power. The treasury and the ministers of state, O king, are at this moment under our control. Therefore, it behoveth thee now to banish, by some gentle means, the Pandavas to the town of Varanavata; O king, when the sovereignty shall have been vested in me, then, O Bharata, may Kunti with her children come back from that place.'"
-

Jatugriha Parva

So here we can see that Duryodhana was jealous of Yudhishthira's growing popularity and hence wanted to send him to banishment. Had Yudhishthira not been a good Yuvaraj, there would have been no Varanavata conspiracy. All I'm trying to set this tone in my story. Yes some scenes are imagined but I have actually made my plot based on this theory which is given in the text itself, as a reason of their conspiracy.

The subjects wanted to follow him while Yudhishthira left for Varanavata. They were ready to leave their excellent town but not their Yuvaraj. He had to request them to return to their homes. How could he achieve such a selfless love from so many hearts? Without doing anything for them, right? My friends, he was chosen by Lord Himself as a king, and it had a reason. He was called Dharmaraja by Lord Himself, for a reason. Do suspect him for any other thing, but pray, do not ever find fault in his ability as a ruler! There he never failed, except the dice game but that too also for saving his praja from a fatal war only. Please, do not demean that kind heart which worried for feeding his subjects even in exile!

I would like to show this also:
Bhishma says in Virata Parva,

The ruler, O child, of the city or the province where king Yudhishthira resides cannot have any misfortune. Charitable and liberal and humble and modest must the people be of the country where king Yudhishthira resides. Agreeable in speech, with passions under control, observant of truth, cheerful, healthy, pure in conduct, and skilful in work must the people be of the country where king Yudhishthira resides. The people of the place, where Yudhishthira is, cannot be envious or malicious, or vain, or proud, but must all adhere to their respective duties.

I ask you, could this this possible if he was not good and caring to people?

Well, you wanted proof. I gave proof. Now you say, do I need to wash this already white character? Where is this complain of whitewashing coming from? And you people, those who are complaining so, cannot you see the fact changing and whitewashing of other characters by their fans? Why don't you attack them? Why only I am the target always? Unfortunately Whenever I write on Yudhishthira, someone comes to oppose and attack. Previously in India Forums too a particular fan group came there, attacked and made me stop it in midway. After that, I have been attacked several times by that fan group, everywhere. Now I don't know who are doing these because I am not told the names this time. But my first guess goes to that fan group only because they are the main people who hate Yudhishthira. If not they directly then maybe their close friends. Again, I don't know who they are, but it is a guess. Why should I get attacked repeatedly just for writing what I want? I cannot take this anymore.

However, it was my duty to save my hero's honour and I did it. Whether this story will be continued or not, let everyone decide it.
