Ch 40 - Mystery of SHADY

Sorn glances at the clock on his phone. He still has another 30 minutes to go. His eyes wander to the icebox resting on the passenger seat.

Gia will love this! He knows her well enough to understand her preferences. She's a woman who prefers ice cream over bouquets and movies over candlelit dinners. She's a simple and lovable woman, the one who brings him happiness.

He takes the next junction, knowing that he's just a few miles away. He can't wait to see Gia. Perhaps they can have a delightful ice cream date, and he can share his idea of moving in together. He pats his pocket, feeling the keys to their brand new townhouse.

Not only will YoLo have a new branch in DC, but they will also have a new home before the wedding. Before leaving for DC, he secretly discussed with Cruise, persuading him to let them run the DC branch together. They even considered moving the modeling department there. After all, both Sorn and Gia have been working tirelessly for YoLo, and being partners in life as well, Cruise agreed to the proposal. A small smile forms at the corner of Sorn's lips as he envisions the new life they will create together.

Gia will be surprised to meet the new General Manager of the branch—him! He hopes they can start a fresh life in DC, leaving behind the past tragedies. Away from everyone, away from HIM!

As his phone rings, displaying an anonymous caller, Sorn furrows his brow and hesitates before answering. Who could it be?

"Hello?"

"Think you can have her, just like that?"

His eyes widen in surprise.

"You!" Sorn exclaims, but the call ends abruptly before he can say anything more. A few seconds later, he receives a file on his phone. He taps the screen and opens it, revealing its contents.

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO MARRY A SLUT LIKE THIS?

Sorn's heart races as he sees the video attachment. He hesitates, contemplating whether to watch it or not. Beads of sweat form on his forehead. But he musters up his courage and tries to maintain a positive mindset.

Maybe it's just a ploy or an attempt to deceive me.

With a trembling finger, Sorn taps the play button. The video starts in a brightly lit room with white surroundings. He sees a man holding hands with a blindfolded woman dressed in a red satin blindfold.

Sorn averts his gaze, unable to bear the rest of the video. The scenes are too harsh for his heart to handle—jealousy, anger, humiliation. The woman's moans, grunts, and screams, along with the sound of her heavy breathing during their intense encounter, weigh heavily on Sorn's emotions. He forces himself to focus on the road, unconsciously pressing the gas pedal harder.

"Do you love it, baby? Tell me..."

"Yes, master..."

"Who do you belong to?"

"You, master..."

Tears stream down Sorn's face as he tries to slow down the car, stealing glances at the distressing video. He watches as the man removes his mask, winking at the camera with a devilish grin.

"Good girl..."

Sorn's lips part in horror as he gazes at the screen.

"No...!"

"His car got crushed by a black minivan. It was a hit-and-run incident. There were no witnesses as it happened on a quiet road with no CCTV cameras. We will try to retrieve the dashboard camera recording, but the car is severely damaged, so it might take some time," the officer explains, taking notes in his notepad. Way glances at Gia, who has stopped crying but still looks drained of energy.

"Thank you, officer. We'll stay in touch," Way says. After receiving the news of the accident, he hurried to the hospital and found Gia in tears outside the emergency room.

He approaches her slowly, intertwining his fingers with hers. Gia looks up at him with bloodshot eyes and disheveled hair.

"You need to rest," Way tells her gently.

"Not until we hear from the doctor," Gia replies.

"Okay," Way says, feeling his heart ache at the sight of her like this.

She leans against his shoulder as Way makes a call to his parents, informing them about the accident. Khun will be coming directly from London, while his parents will take the first flight from Bangkok in the morning.

When they see the doctor emerge from the operating theater, they rush over to him.

"How is my brother, doctor?" Way asks anxiously.

"He has suffered a severe head injury and is currently in a stable condition. We need to closely monitor him. At the moment, Mr. Patthita is in a coma, and it's difficult to determine when he will regain consciousness," the doctor explains. Gia's legs feel weak, and she almost collapses, but Way is there to catch her.

"Thank you, doctor," Way says with gratitude.

"You two should go home and get some rest. There's nothing more you can do right now except wait," the doctor advises. Gia breaks into tears once again, and Way leads her to a bench outside the operating theater, trying to comfort her.

"G, we should go home now," Way suggests.

"I can't! I-"

"I promise you, we will be back first thing in the morning. Please, you need to rest," Way tries to persuade her.

"But..."

"G, you need to be strong for Sorn. He probably wouldn't want to see you like this, right?" Way says, realizing that her current state might only cause Sorn more worry.

"Come, let's go back home," Way suggests.

Gia feels a jolt of realization when Way mentions going home.

"Him!"

"What?"

"It's him! He warned me, but I didn't listen!"

"Who?" Way asks, his expression turning horrified as he puts the pieces together.

"You mean HIM?"

"Yeah! He warned me, but I can't remember when. The black Jeep, the one that almost hit you last time, right?" Gia says, her thoughts racing as she tries to piece together the fragmented events.

"But I thought the case was closed," Way's words leave her speechless. She looks down, unable to provide an answer. They were unaware that Mr. Unknown was still tormenting her and keeping a close watch on Gia.

"I don't want to go home," Gia confesses, trembling with fear. She is certain that he is waiting for her at her house, planning to teach her a lesson just like before.

"Alright. We'll go to my studio. There's a restroom for my staff, complete with a shower and a small bed. You need some rest. We can come back tomorrow," Way suggests, guiding her towards the elevator.

"What about my clothes?" Gia asks.

"I have some spare t-shirts belonging to my staff. You can wear them for now," Way replies, and Gia lets out a sigh, finally agreeing to follow him.

The room is spacious, with a bed, a TV set, and various paintings leaning against the walls. It also has a bathroom.

"Take a shower first. I'll find your clothes," Way suggests, handing Gia a fresh towel from the cupboard. She takes it from him, her expression still filled with gloom.

"Hey, don't worry, okay? Sorn will be fine. You need to take care of yourself so you can take care of him," Way reassures her, gently caressing her cheek.

"Thanks, Way..."

"It's alright. Now, go take a shower," he encourages her, guiding her towards the bathroom.

After some time, Gia emerges from the bathroom, her body wrapped in the towel. She feels a slight chill in the air.

"I think I saw a heater..." she starts searching for the remote control, rummaging through the drawer next to the bed.

To her disappointment, there's nothing there.

Her eyes then land on the bookshelf. She notices a brown box placed on a higher shelf. Stretching her hand inside, she rummages through its contents.

"Hmm..." she finally finds a remote control, but as she pulls her hand out, she accidentally knocks the box down. Its contents spill out and scatter across the floor.

Gia panics and quickly starts gathering everything, but then something catches her attention. She stops and takes an interest in a brown file with the label "SHADY" written on it. Slowly, she picks up the file and opens it.

Her face immediately drops as she reads its contents.
