Ch 38 - Why Am I?

~Bangkok, Thailand~

After hours of flying and a lengthy road trip, Gia and Sorn arrive at Patthita Ranch. It's a sprawling estate with the main house, Patthita Residence, and three cottages designed to accommodate guests who have traveled from afar.

Occasionally, the Patthita boys—Khun, Sorn, and Way—would occupy the guest houses for work or private time. Each house is tailored to their individual preferences and needs.

"Welcome home, Sir," Sorn greets the house butler, patting his shoulder.

"Let's unload the bags first," he says.

"What about Miss Hunter?" Sorn looks over at Gia, still deep in sleep.

"I'll wake her up. Just take these bags and bring them to my house," says Sorn.

"But your house is currently undergoing renovations. Only Mr. Way's house is available at the moment," the butler informs him. Sorn takes a moment to consider.

"Where is he?"

"He's visiting Tongsan's. He'll be back today,"

"Alright, I'll ask him to move back to his room," says Sorn. The butler nods and proceeds inside with Sorn's luggage.

Sorn takes a seat in the passenger seat and looks at Gia, who is lost in dreamland. The journey has been tough on her this time. She experienced plane sickness and jet lag, and she's probably feeling fatigued. They just returned from Milan, had another hour-long flight back to YoLo, and then arrived in Bangkok in a short span of time.

"G... we're here," Sorn gently wakes her up, rubbing her palm with care. Gia slowly opens her eyes and yawns like a tired baby.

"We're here?" Gia asks, and Sorn nods in response. She slowly gets out of the jeep but almost stumbles forward. Thankfully, Sorn is there to catch her.

"What's that smell?" Gia wrinkles her nose, sniffing a bit at Sorn's shirt.

"Maybe it's from the plane. I didn't have a chance to change my clothes," Sorn explains, helping her steady herself on her feet. Gia rushes to a nearby bush and vomits, overwhelmed by the unpleasant smell.

"I think you should rest. Come on," Sorn kindly rubs her back, feeling sorry for her condition.

"Ah... Sorry about that," Gia says, taking the water bottle from Sorn's hand and wiping her mouth.

"It's fine. You're probably just tired. Plus, you didn't eat much on the flight," Sorn hugs her briefly.

"Where's my luggage?"

"It's at Way's. I'll ask him to use his bedroom later. He's at Tongsan Residence. He'll be back tomorrow morning," Sorn explains.

"Alright, I'm going now."

"Take care. I'll miss you..." Gia smiles a little, teasing Sorn as she walks towards the small cabin. She looks back at him, slowly entering the spacious bungalow. Then she enters the cabin, goes straight to the bedroom, and crashes into a deep sleep.

It's a serene morning, with dew glistening on the leaves. Way quietly enters his cabin, having just returned from Tongsan Residence. The visit was an ordeal for him, to say the least. He didn't want to go, but his father insisted, leaving him with no choice but to comply.

The tension during the visit was palpable. Tongsan's family eagerly pressed him to marry Andra as soon as possible. After all, they had been engaged for nearly five years, and now that he had graduated, they wanted to expedite the wedding.

But how could he marry Andra when his heart belonged to someone else?

Way's gaze settles on the woman sleeping peacefully on his bed. She looks ethereal in her slumber, like an angel. A smile creeps onto his face as he brushes a strand of her hair away from her forehead, tenderly kissing her skin. Memories resurface, memories that have never left him.

A surge of courage and desire fills him. The kiss lingers, moving from her forehead to her lips. Gia stirs and slowly opens her eyes, startled by the sensation of someone kissing her. Way pulls back from the kiss, looking at her with a loving smile. She blinks, slightly dazed.

Driven by an unspoken attraction, Gia finds herself instinctively grabbing Way's neck and returning the kiss. Way leans in, deepening the kiss while gently caressing her hair. He holds her in his embrace, their lips meeting again and again. Gia tightens her grip on his neck, losing herself in the passionate exchange. The kiss becomes a testament to their longing for each other.

"I missed you," Way whispers into her ear. Gia nods in response. They kiss once more, stealing each other's breath away. This time, Way takes the kiss further, trailing down to her neck.

In that moment, their desires overpower them, and they succumb to the pull of their shared lust.

However, before they go any further, Gia's gaze catches a glimmering item on Way's fourth finger. It's like a bucket of ice water being poured over her senses, jolting her awake. She immediately pushes Way away, forcing herself to rise from the bed.

"I can't do this, Way! You're engaged," Gia exclaims, her voice filled with a mix of frustration and sadness.

"But soon you'll be mine! Just be patient, Gia. Please, I can't live without you. I need you so much!" Way pleads desperately, as if his life depends on their relationship.

"I'm sorry, but I can't be a homewrecker. I've been on the receiving end of that pain, and I can't do it to Andra. I can guarantee you, she will never recover," Gia says firmly. She quickly puts on her clothes, intending to leave, when Way forcefully embraces her from behind.

"Gia, please! Don't leave me, please!" Way's voice trembles with desperation.

What Way doesn't realize is that Gia is silently sobbing as she witnesses the depth of his love for her. She wants to give in, to surrender to his embrace, but she knows it would only bring more heartache in the end.

She gently pushes his hands away, turns back, and wipes away his tears, just as she did when Way was a child.

"I'm sorry, Way," she whispers, her voice filled with anguish. With a heavy heart, she leaves the room, her silent sobs echoing in the empty space. Way watches her, his eyes bloodshot with frustration and longing.

His hand clenches the bed tightly, his heart filled with a profound sense of loss.

Once again, he has lost her.
