Ch 36 - Hurt Heart
"I've been searching everywhere, okay? Stop pestering me, Way, and just calm down!" Andra half-yelled at her fiancé, frustration evident in her voice. She wandered through the bustling games arcade, scanning the area, even stopping strangers in her path to ask if they had seen anyone.
After a thrilling ride on the Viking, which turned out to be surprisingly short, the group decided to grab some food. Way volunteered to reserve a table at a nearby café, while the others went to the designated meeting spot where Gia was supposed to wait for them.
However, Gia was nowhere to be found.
Panic began to set in as everyone wondered where she could be. Andra couldn't comprehend why Sorn seemed so frantic all of a sudden. When Way arrived and informed them of the situation, Sorn's reaction was almost manic, urging them to find Gia immediately. Seeing the usually composed boys so worried only heightened everyone else's concern.
Now, Andra was on her own, scouring the crowd in an attempt to locate Gia. She felt a mix of annoyance because she had been assigned to look after Gia and possibly a twinge of jealousy, knowing that Way cared so deeply for this girl—perhaps even more than he did for her.
She walked past the Viking Ship once again, then turned right, making her way near the Haunted House. She continued through the Mirror House, when suddenly, she spotted a girl walking unsteadily along the road she was on.
"Hey!" Andra yells, waving her hand to catch Gia's attention. Gia appears to be in a dreadful state, barely able to respond. She lifts her head slightly.
"Damn..." Andra sighs, feeling a mix of annoyance and concern. She may dislike Gia, but she's not heartless enough to leave someone to suffer. With a determined stride, she runs over to Gia and grabs her shoulder.
"Hey, can you hear me?" Andra shakes Gia's body gently, trying to elicit a response. Gia stares back at her with hooded eyes, her face covered in sweat. Andra guides her to a nearby bench, offering her some relief.
"Here..." Andra hands Gia a bottle of mineral water. Gia takes small sips, leaning her body against the bench, panting heavily.
"Are you okay? What happened to you?" Gia gazes up at Andra with her innocent face, causing a pang of sympathy within Gia's heart. How can she confide in her about what just happened?
Summoning the last bit of her energy, Gia straightens herself and takes a few more sips of water. Andra provides her with tissues to wipe away the perspiration from her face.
"I'm... Fine. I felt dizzy earlier, but now I'm okay," Gia says calmly, trying to reassure Andra. Andra observes Gia with genuine worry etched on her face.
"You worried about me?" Gia asks, a faint grin forming on her lips. Andra purses her lips, uncertain how to respond.
"Never! I just don't want to make Way worry sick. That's all," Andra vehemently denies it.
"So you love him, don't you?" Gia probes gently.
"Of course I do! He means everything to me! I know some people might think I'm shameless for pursuing his love when it seems impossible. But I don't care! All I know is that I love him so much, I'm willing to do anything for him," Andra's head hangs slightly, the image of a carefree girl fading away. She reveals herself as someone trapped in unrequited love.
Gia gazes at Andra, a sudden wave of sadness washing over her. Despite the initial friction between them, Andra is just a girl seeking attention and love.
"I thought this was an arranged marriage?" Gia reminds her.
"Everyone thought so. But it was me who arranged it. I had no interest in Sorn from the start. It was Way I wanted. So, I trapped him. I made him take responsibility for what he had done to me," Gia nods, recalling the part of the story she had heard before during the confrontation at K BBQ.
"By kissing you?" Gia teases, attempting to lighten the heavy atmosphere. However, as she observes Andra's sad expression, her smile fades.
"They told you that?" Gia confirms, and Andra lets out a heavy sigh, gripping her pants tightly.
"We were caught having sex just a week before my engagement with Sorn. My brother nearly killed him. I can't even imagine what would have happened if Sorn had been there too. But after some discussion, I'm relieved that Sorn was understanding about it. He was even glad that the engagement was called off," Andra reveals a part of the story that was beyond Gia's knowledge.
"But I forced my dad to arrange my engagement with Way, telling him that he should take responsibility for what he did. That's how we ended up engaged. A few months later, he went to Europe to pursue his degree, leaving me alone in Bangkok. I tried so many times to impress him and even visited him there, but he remained distant. I know he was forced into this engagement too. But I hope that one day he will love me the way I love him," Andra concludes, her voice tinged with a mix of sadness and hope.
Gia looks down at her boots, overwhelmed by guilt for harboring feelings for Way when he already has a devoted fiancée. She almost jeopardized the love that Andra has held onto so dearly.
How selfish she has been.
"Andy? Gia?" Their attention is drawn to someone calling their names.
"Sorn..."
The man rushes over to Gia, enveloping her in a tight hug. He holds onto her, repeatedly checking on her well-being.
"I was so worried sick!"
"I'm okay... Just got a little lost," Gia reassures him, mustering a feeble smile as she rises from the bench. Sorn offers his support, helping her to her feet. Gia looks at him intently before embracing him tightly, resting her head on his solid chest, seeking solace in his warmth.
"Way?" The man stands a mere few feet away from them, his face filled with melancholy as he witnesses the intimate moment between his brother and the woman he loves deeply. Andra takes a small step towards him, wrapping her arms around his waist.
"We found her..."
"I'm glad..." Way replies tersely. Soon, Khun and Holly join the group, and the atmosphere returns to normal.
Yet, amidst the apparent calm, a heart remains wounded. None of them know how long it will take for that heart to heal. Only time holds the answers...
