Chapter Fourteen: The Edge of Darkness
The Kapoor estate was buzzing with activity as the final preparations for Nandini and Dhruv’s wedding reached their peak. It was a day everyone had been waiting for, a celebration of love that had endured through trials and chaos. But beneath the layers of joy and festivity, a growing sense of unease rippled through the air.
Sneha moved through the decorated hall, her heart pounding with a strange restlessness. The bright marigold and rose petals that lined the floors felt heavy with the weight of her thoughts. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was about to go terribly wrong.
"Sneha," Nandini called, rushing toward her, draped in a golden lehenga that shimmered under the sunlight. "You’re looking beautiful today! How’s everything going?"
Sneha forced a smile, hiding the dread clawing at her insides. "Everything’s perfect, Nandini bhabhi .Don’t worry about a thing. Just focus on your big day."
Nandini smiled warmly, her happiness overflowing despite the turbulent months that had led them here. She gave Sneha a tight hug. "Thank you for everything, Sneha. I couldn’t have done this without you."
As Sneha watched her walk away, she couldn’t help but feel an even deeper sense of responsibility. Tarini was still out there, somewhere, waiting for the perfect moment to strike again. She had a sinking feeling that today was that moment.
---
Karan, on the other hand, had spent the morning scouring through every lead, every note, and every trace of information he could find about Tarini’s whereabouts. The message from the night before still haunted him.
“I know who’s next. Watch your back, Rajvansh.”
He couldn’t ignore it. He had already made arrangements for extra security, but something about the situation was too unpredictable. Tarini wasn’t someone who played by the rules—she thrived in chaos.
Karan’s phone buzzed in his hand, pulling him from his thoughts. It was a text from Sneha.
"We need to talk. Meet me by the garden in 10."
His eyes narrowed. Sneha never sent cryptic messages like that. He immediately stood up, rushing out of his study. Every nerve in his body was on edge.
---
Meanwhile, Tarini, dressed in a simple white saree with her face partially obscured by a veil, moved effortlessly among the guests. No one recognized her, not even the guards. Her heart thudded with excitement, anticipation, and an almost cruel sense of triumph. Today, she would finish what she had started.
As she slipped through the crowd, her eyes locked onto Karan, who was making his way toward the garden. A slow, menacing smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
---
Karan found Sneha standing by the fountain in the lush garden, her back turned toward him. He approached quietly, his instincts still on high alert.
"Sneha?" he called softly, but as soon as the words left his mouth, he realized something was wrong.
The figure turned, but it wasn’t Sneha. His breath caught in his throat as he came face to face with Tarini.
"Surprised to see me?" Tarini said, her voice dripping with malice. Her eyes gleamed with a cold, calculating cruelty.
"Tarini," Karan breathed, immediately stepping back, his hand reaching for his phone. "What are you doing here?"
"Oh, come now, Karan," she said, taking a step closer. "You didn’t really think I’d let this little fairy tale wedding happen without my grand finale, did you?"
Karan’s muscles tensed as he calculated his next move. "If you’re here to finish what you started, I won’t let you. Not this time."
Tarini laughed—a hollow, bitter sound. "You’ve always been the hero, haven’t you? Always trying to save everyone. But today, there’s no one to save you, Karan. And no one to save Sneha."
His heart sank. "What have you done to her?"
"Let’s just say, if you don’t get back in time, you might find her... in a less than pleasant condition."
Karan's blood ran cold. His mind raced as he tried to come up with a plan, but Tarini was one step ahead.
"You should run, Karan. Run to your precious Sneha. Because if you don’t, well... she may not survive this time."
Without another word,Karan bolted toward the house, his heart pounding as panic gripped him. He didn’t have time to think, only to act.
---
Sneha, still unaware of the danger closing in on her, was in one of the side rooms, preparing for the wedding. She looked into the mirror, adjusting her dupatta, but something felt off. The door behind her creaked open, and she turned around with a start.
"Who’s there?" she called out, but no one answered.
Suddenly, she saw a shadow move in the hallway—a fleeting glimpse of someone lurking just beyond the doorway.
"Karan?" she called, her voice shaky.
As she stepped out of the room, her heart began to race. The hallway was eerily quiet. She moved cautiously, her breath catching in her throat.
Just as she turned the corner, a hand clamped over her mouth, silencing her scream.
It was Tarini.
"Shh," Tarini whispered, her voice ice-cold in Sneha’s ear. "No one can hear you. No one can save you."
---
Karan raced through the halls, searching for Sneha. His mind was a blur of fear and desperation. When he finally reached the side rooms, his worst fear was confirmed.
The room was empty. Sneha was gone.
"SNEHA!" he yelled, his voice echoing through the empty hallways.
But there was no answer. Only silence.
As Karan frantically searched the house, his phone buzzed again.
“Too late, Rajvansh. Time’s up.”
---
Outside, the guests were still unaware of the danger unfolding inside. Nandini, in her wedding attire, was radiant, but there was a subtle tension behind her smile. Dhruv, though outwardly composed, still struggled with the fragments of his memory. Today should have been perfect, but something felt off—something that neither of them could quite place.
But as the minutes ticked by, the perfection of the day began to unravel, thread by thread.
And soon, it would all come crashing down.
---
Tarini dragged Sneha through the back exit, her eyes wild with intent. She had a plan—one that would not only ruin the wedding but leave everyone shattered beyond repair.
But as she prepared to take the final step, a voice stopped her.
"Let her go."
It was Karan, standing in the doorway, his eyes blazing with fury.
Tarini smiled, her grip on Sneha tightening. "Ah, Karan. Just in time to watch the end of the story."
But Karan wasn’t about to let her win. Not this time.
The final showdown had begun.
