Chapter 8: The Cave In The Storm
-Mavis P. O. V.-
OH MY GOODNESS! OH MY GOODNESS! OH MY GOODNESS! ZEREF JUST KISSED ME! HE JUST KISSED ME ON LOVER'S POINT UNDER THE STARS AND LANTERNS! Now what do I do? Wait... HE'S STILL KISSING ME!
-Third Person P. O. V.- (A/N: Thanks to @Asulablueflame for suggesting third person writing.)
The young lady was correct. Her lover was still kissing her. His eyes were closed and his face was deep red with blush. They were even still holding hands. Mavis did the only thing she thought of. She closed her eyes and kissed him back, her face also covered in a deep red blush. They kissed for a minute. Both wishing that it wouldn't end. They felt weak in their knees. After their glorious minute was up, they slowly broke the kiss and looked at each other, losing themselves in each other's eyes. The young man was the first to speak.
"M-Mavis..." he said, still nervous and shaky from their kiss. "W-What should we do now?"
Mavis looked at him, her blush now faded to a light pink. "W-Well... I think it's safe to say that this was our first date. Or... maybe the cafe was." She giggled, remembering that time.
Zeref laughed with her, also remembering the cafe. "I guess it was. But, now that the lanterns are over, we've already eaten, and we had... our first kiss... what should we do now?"
She puts a finger to her chin, thinking about what to do. She shrugged. "No idea. But, it should be something we do together!" She said with a smile.
He blushed and sighed, looking around the area. His eyes fell upon the sign and path leading to the picnic area. An idea instantly popped into his head. "Let's go!" He took her hand and the two ran down the path, into the forest.
His companion was confused, not having seen the sign. "Zeref, where are we going?"
He looked back at her while they ran. "There's a clearing up ahead. We'll just sit down and talk and-" The eager boy was interrupted by a loud clap of thunder and a few raindrops landing in his raven hair. "Oh no. It's staring to rain."
Mavis was a bit disappointed. She liked the idea of being alone with Zeref and talking for a while. But the unexpected weather had ruined his plan. Or, so she thought. Her sad thoughts disappeared when she heard her lover's voice.
"Look! Quick, in there!" He was pointing at a cave. "We'll be safe from the rain!" The lovers ran through the rain and past trees to get to the cave. Zeref was in front. Right after he stepped foot into the cave, a flash of lightning struck right behind Mavis, making her trip. "I got you!" Though he went forward to catch her, she fell straight into him, knocking him over as well. This resulted in Zeref lying on his back with Mavis on her stomach on his stomach, looking into his eyes.
She blushed, harshly, and quickly stood up. "I'm sorry!"
Zeref got up to his feet and brushed himself off. "No, no. It's alright. After all, we did just kinda kiss a few minutes ago."
Her blush faded as she sighed. "I guess you're right. Wait. Does this mean that we're d-dating? That you're my b-boyfriend?"
Zeref chuckled at her shyness and kissed her cheek. "Correct. And you're my girlfriend."
A light blush returned to her cheek as another clap of thunder rolled in. She was startled and ran into Zeref's arms. He hugged her as she buried her face into his shirt. She could feel his warm body, making her feel safe.
"It's okay. I'll protect you." he said, assuring her. After she was comfortable, she left his arms and sat down. "Now." He started going through his pack that he carried throughout the day. "We got a bit wet, and judging from the lightning, we might be here a while. We may have to spend the night. Though... I only have one blanket." He pulls the wool blanket out of his pack, showing his girlfriend the only thing he has to warm them.
She blushed once again, but nodded. "I understand. Are y-you comfortable with t-that?"
He sat down next to her and draped the blanket over them. "I am, as long as you are."
She silently nods, wrapping the end of the blanket around her side. Another clap of thunder makes her rush into Zeref once again. The two of them hug, Mavis cuddling in Zeref's arms.
He kisses the top of her head. "I love you, Mavis."
She looks up at him and smiles. " I love you too, Zeref."
The rain outside calms down, turning from a thundering storm to a gentle shower. "Good night, my love." They say at the same time before they close their eyes and fall asleep, cuddling under the blanket. The sound of the rain lulling them into a peaceful night's sleep. Neither of them knowing of the danger that would await on the next day.
-Somewhere in the forest-
"Why are we searching for that guy again?" a royal guard asked his colleague.
The second guard shrugged. "Because that guy kidnapped The Fairy Tactician, Mavis Vermillion! Remember? And also, that guy is the Black Wizard Zeref! He's the most dangerous mage in Fiore!
"We have to find that man! We must find Zeref!" a stern voice shouted at the two.
The guards stood at attention, slightly scared of the leader of the search party. "Pardon me, Captain, but why are we only sending the three of us after Zeref? Shouldn't we send an entire platoon, at least?"
"No, you simpleton!" the voice yelled. "This is a rescue and reconnaissance mission. When Zeref has let his guard down, or in worst case scenario, asleep, we'll free Mavis and return her to the mansion. Then, with the knowledge of where he is camped, we send in the entire army! Now follow me! There's a small town of less than a thousand people up ahead. We can ask them if they have seen any signs of Zeref or Mavis. Now move out!"
The two guards looked at each other and followed the captain's orders, following behind them.
"I've got a bad feeling about this." said one to the other.
"You and me both." the other replied.
