Chapter 7: Lover's Point
-Zeref P. O. V.-
My heart was beating faster than usual as she guided me up the hill. A small cobblestone path led us up to the hill's grassy top with a railing on the edge, looking out on the town and a few benches in scattered locations. 3 benches faced the railing for viewing pleasure and another dirt path led off into the forest next to a sign that read "Picnic Area." I can safely assume what is at the end of that path.
"Zeref." Her voice snapped me out of my daze. "We're here." She set her lantern down next to one of the benches by the railing and leaned on it. She turned to me. "Come on. The view is great here!"
I set my lantern down next to hers and leaned over the railing next to her. The town did look amazing. Strings of lights hung around the marketplace. A few of the houses had their lights on, illuminating the town to a romantic level. Wait... romantic? "It does look amazing. How often do you come up here? How many times do you see this?"
She giggles, making me blush a bit. "I told you, I come up here every time I visit this town. I've seen this about twenty times, but it still fascinates me every time." She smiles as she stares off into the distance. "I've always wanted to bring someone special up here. My only friend in this town is a rare sight for me. Out of the twenty or so times I've come here, she only came up here once, the first time I met her. Ever since, I've been alone. She said that it would be a completely different experience."
I sighed. Not being able to keep it in any longer, I asked the question on my mind. "Mavis... why did you bring me up here?"
Her cheeks turned red.
-Mavis P. O. V.-
Why did he ask me that! I can't tell him that I brought him up here to tell him that I love him! That wasn't the original plan, but after the whole "power of black and white" thing I thought this would be a great place and time to do it! "T-to watch the lanterns! The v-view is incredible up h-here and it's p-perfect to see them! P-plus, we can release our l-lanterns from up h-here t-too!"
He looked at me with concern. "Are you alright, Mavis?" He put his hand on my forehead, only making me blush harder. I hope he doesn't notice! "You don't seem warm. Is something bothering you?"
I shake my head. "N-no. It's just that... the l-lanterns seem to be taking a w-while to be released."
He looks out onto the town before retrieving our lanterns from the bench behind us. "They probably release them at a specific time. We should light ours now so we're not late." He pulls a box of matches out from his pouch and lights his lantern. I hold mine out to him and he lights it. Right at that moment, the lanterns in town started floating up. "Perfect timing. On three, Mavis!" We readied to release the lanterns. "One... Two..."
"Three!" We said at the same time as we pushed our lanterns into the night sky. He looked at me. "Sorry, I caught up in the moment!" He giggled and that made me blush. He laughs so cute...
He sat down on the bench to watch the lanterns and I sat next to him. We both stared off at the beautiful, romantic sight before us. W-wait a sec... romantic? D-did my plan work? Is this a good time to confess my love for him? My thoughts were interrupted by his soothing, relaxing voice. "It's amazing. Not just the lanterns, but ours in particular. They look so amazing together. You know what that is?"
"The power of black and white" we said in unison. I looked down at our hands and notices that they were touching. I looked back up at him and our eyes met. We were staring directly into each other's eyes. My heart was beating fast. It's time. I'm going to tell him.
-Zeref P. O. V.-
Our hands were touching. We were locked in each other's gaze. We were alone at a romantic site with a romantic event happening in front of us. My heart was beating faster. My face was burning. There was in doubt in my mind. I loved Mavis Vermillion. And I was about to tell her that. "Mavis." I said as I leaned in a bit. I could hear her breathing.
She was also blushing. "Y-yes, Zeref?"
I didn't know how to say it. "Even though I've only met you recently, I have really enjoyed our time spent together. The cafe, the book, and now this beautiful sight. I had been mulling this over in my mind for the past day and... I've come to the conclusion that... I love you..."
She gasped. I figured she would do that. I braced myself for the rejection when... "I l-love you too, Zeref..."
I looked at her. Both of our faces were red. There was only one thing that I could do in that moment. One thing that would prove my love for her. One thing that would complete this romantic moment.
