Chapter 4: A Day With An Angel

-Zeref P. O. V.-

After a calm night of pleasant dreams of a new life with a light that guided me to it, I traveled to the city and waited in the alley where I had encountered my companion previously. After a morning of water and biscuits for breakfast, she happily skipped into the alley.

"Hello, Zeref!" she said, sporting a big, toothy grin. "We can spend the whole day together, but I'll need to be back home at nine, or my mother will get very upset."

"Nine seems a bit late. Your mother must be very generous." I shot back with a smile.

She seemed a bit taken back. "Well, she's usually so strict about this kind of thing, but she's very busy with the meeting about the cloaked figure. Wait, Zeref! That's you! If we spend the day in my hometown here, the guards will recognize me as her daughter, or recognize you as the figure and arrest you! I don't want you to get arrested! I want to be with you, today. What if we go to the town that's on the other side of the forest?"

I blushed a little at her saying that she wanted to be with me today, but I continued as if nothing happened. "What other town? I've never heard of a town directly beyond the forest."

She giggled, cutely, only making me blush harder and my heart beat faster. "Because it's a very small town, almost a village. Not even a thousand people live there, but there are plenty of fun things to do! There's a small market with beautiful and exotic flowers and incredible spices and there's a cafe that makes amazing pastries that taste like heaven! And my favorite, there's a big hill where you can look out onto the town and it looks so beautiful and romantic, especially at night, because all the couples in the town, regardless of where they are, release two lanterns into the sky. Each lantern is colored like the person who releases it. It looks so beautiful at night!" Although she doesn't mention it, she blushes at the word "romantic." I have no problem with it and  certainly wouldn't mention it. After all, I blushed at it, too.

"Sounds amazing. Let's go! Lead the way, Mavis!"

"Yay!"

She began to lead me through town into the forest. I followed my companion along the dirt path that would lead us into the town. I felt lucky. I had the privilege of spending a day with an angel. Though, she had the "privilege" to spend a day with the Black Wizard Zeref. It's hard to tell who's luckier. If you can even call a day with me lucky. Anybody would be lucky to spend a day with someone as nice as her. Her kind nature and lovely hair and mesmerizing eyes made my heart flutter and my face blush at times. I'm growing fond of her, my new light. I feel as if I may be starting to... love her. But, it's too early to tell. It could just be me adjusting to human kindness, and more importantly, I just met her yesterday. She could not have possibly developed feelings for me yet. While we were on the path, I noticed that she was holding my hand as she was guiding me to the town. I blushed and decided to speak up.

"Uh... Mavis?"

She looked up at me with big, dreamy, emerald eyes. "What is it, Zeref? We're almost to the town, that's when we'll have some actual fun, instead of just walking. " She turns her head and mumbles. "Even though it's nice to be alone with you..."

I felt my cheeks turning red. "W-What was that, Mavis?"

She shook her head. "Oh, n-nothing. I'm sorry. I just got a bit distracted. What were you going to say?"

"Oh, it's not important anymore." I gave her an assuring smile.

"Okay. If you say so." She smiled back and turned her attention back to the path.

I thought that it was nice. I didn't know if she knew that she holding my hand or not, but I decided to let her do it. It was nice. It made me feel warm inside, like I didn't want to let go, and I could even feel my blush subsiding.. Deep down, I would treasure this moment for the rest of my life.

"Here we are." she said without stopping, walking into the town. "Let's have some fun, now!"

It was a small town, like she said. I could see the market and off in the distance I could see what I assumed to be the area where we could look out onto the town like she said, but I couldn't see the cafe, so it was probably on the other side of the small town. "Looks like fun."

She turned to me as we walked. "Are you ready for a day with an angel?"

I nearly collapsed to my knees with that comment, my cheeks obviously turning red again. I could only manage a nod.

"Great. Let's go!" And with that, we walked into the market.
