Chapter 3: A Good Night Wish

-Mavis P. O. V.-

I ran home, not being able to stop thinking about him. His soft, raven hair. His sensitive, black eyes. His gentle, relaxing voice. It had to be true. I was falling in love with him. But, what do I do about it? Do I tell him now? Do I wait for us to get closer? Should I ask my mother for advice? I suddenly froze in my tracks. "My mother..." I whispered aloud. How would she react to this? Her daughter has not only met, talked to, and befriended the most feared wizard in Fiore, but she is INFATUATED with him! I can't tell her! I'll have to hide it from her and everybody else. I entered my house and walked into the parlor to meet an impatient mother, tapping her foot.

"Where have you been? I said I'd be home an hour after you got home." she complains, tapping her watch. "You are an hour late. What have you been up to?"

I panicked internally. It took all my will power to keep myself from blushing in the slightest to keep her from asking for details. "The line was very long, and I also found this." I said while holding up the book. "Someone left it in the forest, so I thought I'd take it home." She looks at the book's cover and opens it to look at the inside cover.

"This is from the Magic Library. You'll need to return this tomorrow. Do you have that headache medicine?" I take the bottle out of my pocket and hand it to her. She takes one immediately. "Thank you. I'll need this for the meeting tomorrow."

I smiled at her as I sat down in a chair for my lessons, until I stood up, confused and curious. "Umm, mother? Did you say 'tomorrow'?"

She nods her head, slightly annoyed. "Unfortunately, yes. People have claimed to have seen a suspicious figure in a black cloak outside the school, and the city guards are having an emergency meeting about it. They have also heard suspicions about Zeref in the city and they he could be that figure. I think they are just scared of a little thief so they want to call him Zeref to leave it up to the Magic Council. Cowards. I'm going for two reasons. One, because I have to, and two, because I'm going to try to convince the guards to man up and post some sentries. Sorry, Mavis, but no lessons until next week. There has been too many issues. But you have that book, so read that until you go to bed. Sorry, dear."

"Thank you, mother." I said while bowing. I began to walk up the stairs. I paused and leaned over the railing. "Wait, mother. Tomorrow is Saturday. What do I do then? If you're at a meeting, you won't be able to watch me."

She sighed and said six words that made me want to squeal in delight. "You can do whatever you want."

I ran upstairs to my room, locked the door behind me, dropped the book on my nightstand, jumped onto my bed and squealed into my pillow. "I get to spend a day with Zeref!" I screamed into my pillow, muffling myself so my mother doesn't hear. I couldn't wait until tomorrow! I'd meet him in that alley like I said and we'd go find a place where we could have some fun, like a park or a cafe! I walked out onto my balcony and stared off into the city at night. It looked beautiful. But it was missing something that would make it look perfect. Well... it was missing someone.

I walked along the sidewalk, up the hill to her large, white house. I'm sure it had a light pink or yellow tint, but it was too dark to notice and just looked white. Almost like heaven was manifested into a building. With an angel living inside. I walked around to one side of the house and saw a balcony. "I could use that to get inside to talk to her!" I thought. I gathered myself directly below it and prepared myself. I internally summoned all of my energy, with a bit of my magic energy, and leaped into the air, landing on the railing of the balcony on my feet. Staring straight into beautiful, innocent, emerald eyes.

"Zeref!" The black wizard was perched on my balcony's railing like a bird landing down from the sky. I noticeably blushed at his presence. "W-what are you doing here?"

He stepped down from the railing. "I had to see you again." My face turned red. "You need to understand. You can be my light, but I won't be able to keep myself from hurting you."

I looked at him confused. "What do you mean? You don't seem like somebody who would hurt people. Why do people say you killed all those people?"

He sighed and sat down, crossing his legs. "I have these seizures. My body hurts as a cloud of darkness surrounds me. It generates a field of blackness that then launches out from around me, destroying all life. Plants, animals, even... people." I felt like crying. "I never wanted to hurt or kill anybody. I have control over my magic power, but not those seizures. I hate them. The world rejects me." He looks down at his legs. "I am immortal, but I wish nothing but to die in peace to prevent more loss."

I couldn't help myself. I crawled over immediately and hugged him. "No! You can't die! I won't leave me friends behind! I'll be your light, Zeref, but you have to believe in yourself, too!"

He seemed to be taken back a bit, slightly blushing as he slowly allowed himself to return the hug. "If I must. Though, you must take note. If you prove that I am a lost cause. That I can't be led out of the darkness. Then I will have to. I will have to die. To save the world from myself."

I hugged him tighter, refusing to let go. "I'll take that chance, Zeref. I know I can change you. I have to. I wish nothing but to help you."

He stood up and began to climb back onto the railing. "I have to leave. Thank you, ...Mavis." He jumped over the edge.

I looked over the railing and saw him walking down the sidewalk, perfectly fine. My heart was fluttering since I hugged him. I walked back into my room and changed into my pajamas. I got into my bed and read some more about Fairy Glitter. After a few minutes, I put the book down and looked out the window doors to my balcony and saw a shooting star. "I wish that I'll be able to be with Zeref." I said in my head with my eyes closed. I shut my eyes again to go to sleep. "Good night, Zeref." I thought before I peacefully slept.

As I walked away from heaven, I saw a shooting star light up the sky. "I wish that I'll be able to be with Mavis, my new light." I thought to myself with closed eyes as I walked. I turned back to the house. "Good night, Mavis." I whispered into the night.
