Chapter 5- Found

⚡️

"WALLY WHAT ARE THEY DOING HERE?" I asked again, on the bridge of tears, "You didn't-"

"No, I never told anyone," Wally reassured me, turning to his team and the Justice League, "What are you guys doing here? I never said anything suspicious. How did you-"

"Miss (Y/n) would you like me to contact Mr..." SASS trailed off into gibberish, her shutting down noise hurting my ears before silence.

"Impressive system, but still hackable. Your parents," Robin paused to give a small scowl as if the words were acid in his mouth. It was easy to assume he knew about Wally's parental situation, "They went up to your room and only found your phone on the bed. They contacted the Flash who contacted the rest of us."

"We thought it could have been a kidnapping for ransom ordeal," Batman continued for his sidekick, "But when we hacked into your phone, we found a contact that wasn't from your personal or hero life. After looking through more we found a picture of you and the girl. In the background, was a Lex Corp logo."

"There was scenery in the corner that we recognized from this underground area. The team recognized it. It would explain your weird behavior, and you staying out of contact with the team for a few minutes when you were down here," Robin concluded.

The dynamic duo was both awe-inspiring and annoying. Couldn't they just decide which one of them wanted to talk and be smart instead of the two of them passing the explanation back and forth? They didn't need to constantly finish each other's sentences.

"Listen," I spoke up, trying to look confident- although that was the opposite of how I felt, "I find your concern for Wally endearing, but all of you seriously need to leave. You need to go and forget that this ever happened. Because nothing is going to change, I'm going to go up to the surface eventually, just not now."

"I don't think so," Flash stepped forward, "You've been... Canoodling with my nephew-"

"We have not," Wally's face turned the color of his hair.

"Right," Flash rolled his eyes, sarcasm dripping from his tone, "The league isn't going to forget about some girl hidden miles under Lex Corp. Being hidden for who knows what reason, for who knows how long. The villains may have told you that you could leave kid, but you can't believe a word they say. We're getting you out of here."

"I'm not leaving," I put my foot down. Batman and Robin walked to the control panel. The two silently hacked it and the door slid open. The first person to enter my room was Robin, most likely because Wally had assumed a defensive stance in front of me.

"KF, look, we need to get her out of here. She can go back to the life she had before this. She can join the team if they took her to experiment on her, we can help her out," Robin tried to convince Wally, not me; Strike one. Strike two was assuming they experimented me on. Strike three was offering me pity help under the pretense I was weak.

Were none of them questioning the fact that I had convinced Wally to let me stay down here when it was his job to rescue people? Or how my home looked nothing like a prison?

"I'm not leaving."

"We don't have time for this," Aqualad spoke up, "We may have evaded the security that was detectable, but this area is likely highly watched. Batman?"

Batman paused, thinking over his options. His menacing glare met my own, and even though I wanted to crawl under my covers and shiver in fear, I held my ground. "Take her out, she's obviously not thinking clearly."

I panicked, reaching under my loveseat, Underneath there was a loose seam. I tore it open, holding out two batons. They were specialized, designed with the ability to hook together. When I did, I could use the thirty feet of cord inside the batons to swing them around as a long-range weapon.

Robin pulled a taser gun from his belt. I threw my hand out, knocking the weapon from his hand.

The rest of Wally's team came slowly into my room, ready for a fight. I kept my focus on Robin. The others had honor; they didn't understand that you could fight dirty if it was for the right cause, which meant they wouldn't attack me while my back was turned. I, on the other hand, was raised by villains and understood the concept.

I lifted my foot, kicking Robin in the stomach. He flew back into the glass behind him leaving a small crack. That's when the rest of the team ran forwards.

Going for Artemis next, the little traitor as Sportsmaster called her. I blocked a swing from her bow, elbowing her in between her shoulder blades. She somersaulted, enabling a quick recovery. I roundhouse kicked her in the chest before she could do anything else, landing her next to a disoriented Robin.

"Guys stop!" Wally yelled, speeding forward to grab my shoulder, "(Y/n) please!"

"Wally I-I... I can't leave," my gut twisted at the statement. Everything was swirling, the last week of my life contradicting fifteen years of fear-based obedience, "I will end up hurting someone. No matter how much you tell me otherwise. The villains-"

"Are a bunch of liars," Batman stepped closer ignoring my scowl, "You're using a physical weapon, not powers. You have no reason to have no control."

"You want to bet?" I challenged. The young team and league took a large step away from the two of us. I challenged the Batman, "You want to know why I believe the villains more than any of you?"

"(Y/n)-" Wally tried to warn me.

"You're coming with us one way or another."

"No. I'm. Not!" I screeched. A wave of darkness enveloped the room. Every living thing stopped moving, stopped breathing, "Shit."

I turned around to Wally. His eyes were wide, hand outstretched as if he were reaching for me. I looked behind him. No shadow. A quick observation of everyone else told me the same thing. The darkness I had created pulsed with life.

"Put your hand down," I ordered Wally lowly, a dangerous edge hidden within. Ink dripped down the ceiling, thick as blood, and fell over Wally's head. When nothing else dripped onto him, his hand jerked down to his side, "Leave his body. You know where you belong."

The ink flowed down to Wally's feet, forming a puddle around him. The puddle stretched out until it matched his body's shape. I moved forward and touched his cheek. His torso jerked, lungs filling with fresh air again. I yelped out in shock as he coughed harshly, hunching over.

"(Y/n)," he looked around at the Justice League. It shocked me when his expression remained neutral. No disgust or horror just muted concern, "You need to let them go."

"How?" I whimpered quietly, "I've never done something this big before."

"You need to calm down," Wally rubbed his hands up and down my arms soothingly.

"I can't leave Wally. I thought I was doing better, but the villains were right. I'm too dangerous to be anywhere but here. I shouldn't even leave when I'm eighteen."

"Hey, it's gonna be alright," Wally wrapped his arms around me, enveloping me in his scent once again, "We'll figure this all out. I swear you'll be safe, and everyone else will be too."

I breathed in deeply, sinking into his embrace. All at once there was a chorus of deep breaths. Unbeknownst to me, while I was in my distraught state the shadows were dripping from the ceiling and were flowing to their rightful owners, renouncing their control.

Wally's head shifted, turning towards his comrades. I thought nothing of it, staying in his comfort. His hands moved from my back to my shoulders, spinning me around. His strong forearms trapped me against his chest.

"I'm sorry," he whispered into my ear.

Batman stood in front of me. I couldn't even flinch before a needle was in my arm. The liquid he injected into me was cool, making my nerves scream in discomfort. I jerked, trying in vain to escape.

"I'm sorry," Wally whispered again, holding me up even as my limbs gave up.

"Wally... Why..."

~*~

I woke up when a bright light flashed across my vision, penetrating even my closed eyelids. Sighing, I opened my eyes to a squint. SASS must have turned my lights on to wake me up. It was Sunday why was she so insistent?

My eyes focused on the ceiling above me. I shot up, shaking like a leaf. My ceiling was not made of rock. I looked down at the smooth sheets covering me. White, hospital-like. When I tried to lift my hand up to move them off of my it didn't budge. Thick metal cuffs covered the entirety of my hand and wrist. A pulsing red light coming from a strip at the edge made me ache every time it lit up. Power inhibitor.

I thought back to the night before. I was so sure it was just an awful dream when I was coming back to consciousness. I assumed I would wake up and it would be Sunday, the day after meeting with Wally. Everything would have gone well, and he would have left with promises of keeping my secret, swearing to return the next day.

Obviously, I was wrong.

In the room's corner was a dark corner, darker than the other shadows surrounding the equipment surrounding me. My fingers stretched out, hitting the metal restriction just in front of them. I grimaced, trying to pull the blackness towards me. As soon as I activated my power a searing pain shot up my arm. I winced, stopping immediately.

"Name, powers, parents," a gruff voice ordered me. Batman was on the side of my cell, staring me down. I could only see his white lenses, but I sensed the intensity.

"Let's bring her to the conference room first," Flash appeared in front of me, hooking a collar similar to my cuffs around my neck.

"I'm not going anywhere. You need to take me back. Right now," I growled out, jerking my hand upwards when Flash unlocked the cuffs.

"You're going to come with us or we're sending you straight to Arkham," Batman growled back.

"I haven't done anything," my eyes flitted around the room, searching for any useful weapons. Nothing but medical equipment that was too far away to grab before getting caught.

"You were found below Lex Corp. You have powers, fought the league, and we have reason to believe you've been down there a long time. Over that time it is likely you have developed Stockholm Syndrome."

"Fine," I rolled my eyes, going along with it. Stockholm Syndrome. That was a new one even though I was never a prisoner in the first place. Not technically... I shook my head. Stockholm Syndrome wasn't my situation because I wasn't kidnapped from normal life. The villains were all I had ever known, "But only if Wally comes with."

Batman and Flash nodded at each other. Flash left the room in a blur and returned with Wally in tow.

"Hey (Y/n)," Wally smiled sheepishly. I stood up from the bed, punching him in the arm as hard as I could, "Ow!"

"That's what you get," I crossed my arms, "I don't want to be here."

"I know," he smiled reassuringly, "I'm sorry. It's for the best though."

"Is it?"

"Let's go," Batman motioned for me to follow him. He led, with Wally next to me and the Flash behind us so I couldn't attempt to run. Not that I would be stupid enough to when there were two speedsters so near.

As we walked, I peeked down different halls and into different rooms of whatever this place was. I peeked into a larger opening and spotted the young team practicing on a virtual floor that looked just like the one I had.

"Sit."

It took me a moment to realize that we had arrived. It was a room with a large roundtable and several chairs around it. The league members filled the chairs, four were empty. Batman and Flash sat down in two, Wally and I in the others.

"Name, parents, powers," Batman ordered again, louder this time so the rest of the league could hear.

"Batman," Black Canary shook her head as a warning, "Be kinder to her."

"She single-handedly controlled the entire league without any technology or injection. The air quality was normal. That raises concern."

"My name is (Y/n) (L/n)," I spoke loudly and clearly. There was no way to get out of this, and I was sure they had tech that could make me talk. At least this way I was in control, "My parents are gone. My mom and dad abandoned me in an alleyway when I was a baby. I killed six people who tried to help me. My powers... They call it umbrakinesis. Lex found me and brought in other villains to help me out. They raised me. So don't assume I was there against my will or experimented on. They're family."

"Have you ever left the room we found you in?" Superman asked.

"No. I've been there since I was found. I was too dangerous to be let out. I had more training, more things to learn."

The league shared a collective look. It was silent until Wonder Woman finally spoke up, "Are those their words, or your own?"

I hesitated in my answer. Not two days ago I was determined to leave, I thought I was ready. Then Harley drilled it into me again that I wasn't ready. I met with Wally again and wanted to pursue something with him, then I controlled the entire league on accident.

"We shall discuss the situation," Wonder Woman spoke again, taking my silence as an answer, "You two may leave, but stay close. Kid Flash, watch her closely."

I jumped out of my chair and rushed out of the room, Wally close behind. I didn't want to be there anymore; I didn't want to be there in the first place. They were all so judgy and considering how I had never been submitted to that it was scary. When I made it out, I leaned against the wall, breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth.

"They aren't that bad when they get used to you," Wally assured me, pulling me into a hug. I move my feet back a fraction, distancing myself. He picked up on it, letting me go, "Even Batman will stop scowling so much."

"I just want to go home," I looked down the hallway, avoiding Wally's pitying gaze, "Where I know what's going to happen and when. Where I feel safe. Where I can't hurt anyone."

"You can't go back now (Y/n), it's too late for that. I'm sorry."

Wally's arms twitched, and I knew he wanted to hug me again. I held strong, resisting the voice telling me to lean into his embrace. He held me still while they sedated me, I still had a fight left in me. Someone cleared their throat from our right side. Both of us turned to face them.

"We've discussed the best course of action," Batman informed us, "We can't let you go back to Lex Corp, no matter their intentions in first taking you in or how dangerous they've said you are. So you're going to stay here, and join the team, learn to control your powers with people who can handle them and send you on a good path. There is no choice in the matter. If you try to run, you will go straight to Belle Reve, a solitary cell and that collar will never come off. A room will be prepared for you here. Until then, you will meet the team."

I blinked, slowly processing the information just given to me. Batman stepped forward and removed the collar from my neck. Immediately a fresh round of energy ran through me. The dull ache disappeared. Dumb, removing the collar so soon, but Batman must have been confident in their ability to handle me from that point on. If he was that confident, I didn't have a chance.

The league separated to different areas of the cave. Wally grabbed my hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. I didn't pull away. I needed that small comfort. He led me down the hall to the right, back to the large room I spotted the team in earlier.

"She's staying here?" Superboy questioned angrily, his super hearing overhearing our conversation, "She could tell the villains everything that has been going on!"

"Relax," Aqualad, the leader- authority oozed off of him- ordered, "She wouldn't be able to stay here if the league wasn't watching her closely. She won't be able to do anything with the computers or weapons until Black Canary clears her."

"Why don't you all introduce yourselves since she's a part of the team," Wally spoke, trying to break the tension.

"I'm Artemis. Watch yourself around Wally, he's a flirt." I looked to Wally, brow raised. He smiled sheepishly in response.

"I'm Kaldur'Ahm, but my friends call me Kaldur," Aqualad spoke up, pulling my attention away from Wally.

"I'm M'gann," Miss. Martian beamed flying circles around me.

"Conner," Superboy grumbled begrudgingly.

"Robin, just Robin," Robin smirked. I sent him a smirk back. I was going to find out his real name.

"So... What do you guys do when you aren't on missions?" I asked, looking around. It was modern and high-tech for a cave.

"We train. Want to try?" Robin motioned to the floor, "No powers. To see how much you know."

"Well, I already kicked your butt so that should count as something," I mumbled, following him onto the floor.

"Robin recognized. Unknown on the floor."

"Set recognition..." Robin looked to me for a name.

"Shadow," I answered instinctively. It was simple and basic, but it was my power and the essence of who I was so it fit.

"Set recognition. Shadow B-0-8."

"Shadow recognized."

I smiled, stepping back into a defensive position, Robin doing the same. Both of us were waiting for the cue.

"Start."

Robin ran towards me. I flipped back to avoid a punch. I threw a kick while he ducked under; he threw a punch towards my stomach only to swipe under my feet when I flinched. I landed on the floor with a thud, pain spreading through my back.

"Shadow fail."

Robin held out a hand which I took.

"No offense but how did you miss that? It was a basic mislead," Robin questioned, chuckling slightly.

"They threw me straight into advanced combat training. The villains didn't think there was a need to know the basics. Guess they were wrong, huh?"

"Well, at least there's something we can teach you besides power control," Kaldur reassured me.

"I'll show you to the room you'll be staying in," M'gann flew towards me. I nodded, following her out of the training room. The Flash must have helped set up the room, there was no other way it could have been done so quickly.

As she led me through the halls, my confusion must have shown because M'gann smiled brightly.

"It took me a while to get used to it too. I got lost a few times. You'll learn. It's your home now, after all."

The words tasted bittersweet on my tongue, "Yeah... Home."
