The Decision
I finished dinner and excused myself. I made a beeline for Fenna, a maid in which I confided in everything. She was an elderly woman with much experience. Fenna had known my mother, and has been that motherly figure. "Yes?" A frail voice answered my knock. "It's Tanaiah." I called, knowing how she guarded herself with everyone else. "How may I help you, my dear lady?" I was greeted with twinkling eyes and a brilliant smile. Even though she raised me, Fenna insisted that I be treated with the respect I inherited. "Fenna, I need your help." Explaining the situation, I closed the door. Her nods and gazes confirmed that she was listening. Together, we concluded that I should tell my father the truth, either in person or by note. Saying it in person would get my point across, it would be more sincere, and I could see his reaction firsthand. However, it would be harder. I decided in person. No matter what dad would say, I'd still go, at least for one day. I said goodnight and packed things in a black bag for school. I couldn't believe it! I might actually go to school for the first time! With thoughts of my exploration tomorrow, I fell asleep. For ten minutes anyway. I surprised myself by thinking of that guy, Kace Hill. I pulled the information on my transmitter. It was strange. There was something... different about him, but what? I couldn't place it. I found myself thinking of the felon long after I had logged out of the device. I wonder if I'll see him tomorrow.

Again, my sleep was disturbed. I couldn't wait any longer. I had to tell him. With my feeble resolve temporarily holding, I marched the stairs to my father's study. He is often found there, seeking resolutions for the endless amount of conflicts in our world. I took a deep breath, and told him. "Father." His bloodshot eyes looked up from papers. "I thought about what you said. I decided that I would like to try my abilities. I want to get out of these walls and into the other world I've come to know so well. At least for a day. Please let me go." Eyes searched me for weakness. Gathering himself, he made a decision. "You can go. If you promise to not abandon your responsibilities as future Main Leader." "I promise. Thank you, Daddy ." We hugged, something we rarely did, and he looked into me. "She'd be so proud." His eyes had welled, and his words were enough to make me tear up. I wished him goodnight, and went back to sleep. This time, I was successful.
