I woke up to the sound of the door closing. (Yes vampires sleep.) This means three things.
1. Someone has just come back from hunting.
2. Someone has just left for hunting.
3. Someone is hunting and they found our house and decided to come inside.
Personally I hope it's one because I am really hungry.

I decided to get ready. In order to do that it means I need to get out of bed. I took off the covers and swung my feet round. If I was human I would think it's cold but I'm not human. I'm vampire and I don't feel the cold.

I run around the room and put on all my clothes. I go over to my mirror and stare into my red eyes. I stare into the eyes of a killer.

"Hey Dusty food!" I hear vamp shout.
"Okay vamp. I'll be there in like two minuets."
"You'd better hurry. Hyde is hungry." I laugh at that. I don't really know why.

I decide its best to go get some food because no one likes an angry vampire. I'm not impressed by the amount of food they left for me.
"I'm here too. I need to eat."
"Not as much as we do." Said Hyde.
"What makes you think that?"
"Well I'm twenty. Vamp's twenty two. And you are fifteen."
"No. I'm sixteen." I say back trying to stay calm.

"Dusty calm down." Says vamp placing a hand on my shoulder. I smile. Humans may believe that vampires are cold. If you touch them they feel like ice. But whenever vamp touches me I get this warm feeling. A feeling that makes me feel almost human.

After eating my small breakfast I stare off into the distance. I like doing this. It gives me time alone. Time to think about life and how confusing it is.

After the thought of warmth it's really made me wonder what separates us from the humans? Apart from the fact we're blood sucking monsters and will kill them at any given time. Is that all?

"There are many reasons." I hear someone whisper in my ear. I turn around and see vamp looking at me.
"Many reasons for what?" I hear Hyde say.
"Reasons that separates us from the humans." I reply.  

I look at vamp and he smiles.
"There are many reasons. We are faster, stronger and more monsteras then humans. We're not scared to fight or kill. We live longer. But there is only one thing that is obvious to the human eye."
"What is it?" I ask interested.

"Shadows."
"What!?" Both me and Hyde say.
"Us vampires don't have shadows."
"But why!?" Asks Hyde.
"It's to do with the soul." Said vamp. He looks around at both of us. I guess he was expecting us to look confused.

"The one thing humans don't know is that our shadows are the reflection of our souls."
"How does that work?" I ask.
"When the light shines down on people their soul protects them from being burnt. Humans get burnt when their soul is weak. When it is strong it creates a shield. The light bounces of the soul shied onto the ground making the shape of their bodies." Said vamp looking around at us again. We still both looked confused.

"Okay. The soul is like the core of the human body. It controls them. It protects them. It keeps them safe.
Us vampires don't have souls. As we get bitten our soul leaves us. This means we control our actions. The soul is what separates us from humans."

I look at vamp for a bit then nod. I get it now. Our bodies are like our own county. We control it. While human bodies are like a school. The same rules for everyone. If you break one you face the consequences.

Death.
