Regrets
Past cannot be undone.
Everything that has happened was undoubtedly meant to be; there's no doubt in that regard.
But humans tend to regret token decisions every now and then; it's just how nature shaped them- decisions that were once so right seemed at a certain point the dumbest ever, and options that were discarded in exchange started appearing ever so right.
You often felt that way; you sometimes regretted having pushed the snooze button of your alarm when you knew that slumber would take over, you ended up being late every time you did that, yet habits were hard to die.
You regretted staying late at night doing nothing literally, well, maybe doing something. Indeed, for you, thinking about a future with Seokjin was a vital task, it was something you prioritized over a regular sleep pattern that was much needed for a lazy person like you- so every morning, you blessed the room with a renewal of an empty promise that you knew you would break the very next day.
I'll hit the bed by nine tonight, I swear.
Your regrets were always on similar notes, they almost had the same pattern, and their reasons were all irrelevant, all about matters that held no valuable importance.
You were grateful for that, albeit the annoyance from the repeated occurrence of your repentance; you were glad you hadn't made worst decisions, your sensitive conscience wouldn't cope with it.
A plot twist revealed itself sooner than expected, the tables turned, and your fears became a reality.
Your over-thinker self took over the carefree character that was once one of your traits, whereas repentance took over the cheerfulness- you hid the new side of you with the beautiful smile that you wore every day while walking through the corridor reaching for the elevator, just like the way you hid those dreadful pimples that appeared on your chin every beginning of the month with your makeup.
The road that led to the company never seemed that short; you wished the ride could get longer, you didn't want to go there or meet with anyone.
So ironic.
Working there used to be your ultimate goal; you outraged yourself to get scouted; you even strengthened your relationship with the almighty, going every Sunday without missing punctuality to the church, praying in total concentration, and all the faith you succeeded in summoning just for that to happen, and when finally your dream came true, you have thrown a party for your small circle of friends, you even cooked which was something you never enjoyed doing. Well, it was inedible; even stray dogs refused to eat what you've made, but again, celebratory requisites.
You became successful, just like you wanted.
The company offered more than you expected, the environment was fabulous, and you made many friends there, also many enemies, but you couldn't give less about them, you considered-ah no, sorry, you didn't consider them at all.
Life was going according to your plans, your relationship with Seokjin was in full bloom; albeit sensing his tension from time to time, you just gave him some space, and the next day the stress subdued itself.
" Y/n, what do you think about spending a life with me?"
" Jin, are you proposing? If that's the intention, please make it romantic; you know my style, love, so don't ruin the moment."
" Okay then, I will take it as a yes, it's settled, let's get married next month"
Everything seemed too good to be real; you couldn't believe how lucky you were with all the blessings that kept pouring over you; you kept being in disbelief until everything turned sour in the blink of an eye.
" You know very well that he is after me, y/n, why do you keep insisting on working for him? Is there something I'm not aware of?"
Your lovely sweet nights that were once filled with romance, nights in which you often opted for a cringe-worthy movie to watch before surrendering to slumber, or when you decided to go for a drink in your cozy living room before switching to the bedroom to spice things up, became with time, nights filled with disputes and anger. It had all started with some arguments and discussions about matters that were unpleasant for Seokjin, like your job, for example, later though those had worsened, day after the other, they became unbearable for you, his persistence became a considerable nuisance, and your stubbornness led toward coldness in your marriage life.
You just couldn't give up your job; it was impossible.
You knew exactly what Seokjin meant when he first requested you to resign, you knew the reason behind that as well but you wanted to play dumb, why? Because it was simply none of your business.
It was not your business back then, but it has also changed rapidly.
The taste of real regret hit your heart slowly; it was so different from that feeling that kept lingering around you whenever you made a small mistake like taking the wrong exit on a highway, making the ride to your destination longer than what it was supposed to be- the feeling was stronger, not to your liking at all.
" You called for me, boss?"
" Take a seat y/n; make yourself comfortable."
" Is something the matter? Anything I can help with?"
"Well, yes, I guess, stop calling me boss; we are friends common."
" Jungkook, we are at work; I can't drop honorifics."
Jungkook was your friend from middle school; once upon a long time, you had a crush on him, and that was mutual; you dated for a few months in high school, but nothing serious, you ended up breaking up, and the reasons were your constant nagging and his bad choices in restaurants.
Children.
Nevertheless, you maintained a strong friendship throughout the years; he made his choices in life, and so you did, he became successful, and you followed in his steps; you shone brightly together.
Again, those were your humble thoughts about the entire situation.
Jungkook never once considered you a friend, for him, you were a love he never succeeded in forgetting, he was strongly infatuated with you, the man had everything, the financial stability, the dashing looks, yet, there was no woman fit for him in the vast world, that's how he felt, losing you to Seokjin, made him feel so poor albeit his richness.
You were in the dark about his feelings, he never confessed, so for you, everything between him and you ended that day in front of that ddeokbokki-chib.
Seokjin was aware, though. Jungkook, when he was a bit greedier than usual in that bar, went over his limits while downing shots of vodka one after the other until he lost logic, confessed everything, and followed by decorating the cake with a beautiful cherry; a strong punch on Seokjin's jaw.
There is no end when it comes to bad news.
As if jealousy wasn't enough of a problem between the two men, they had other hidden agendas under their sleeves, adding more fuel to their burning fire. Jungkook was the biggest opponent to Seokjin in the business field. They both enjoyed sewing schemes to destroy each other, they were both stinky, both malice.
Ignorance was a blessing.
You were blessed.
" Jin, stop it, okay? I'm not gonna quit, and please fix that inferiority complex you have toward the man; he did you no wrong."
Well, ignorance was surely a blessing, but sometimes, it could cause problems.
There was no home for you anymore, no shelter. Escaping from home to the company became useless; you started hating being in both and wished to flee the country at a certain point.
You regretted your decision when you felt your head spinning around, your vision became blurry, and sounds became distant and muffled. Although the music was deafening, you failed to give the DJ his merited credit. You stayed at the counter of the lounge looking at people coming in and out of the place; it seemed like you were the security agent of that club, customers that entered the site after you had already changed their location, yet, you kept your place warm, and your throat warmer with those shots of tequila. You were drunk, but you insisted you were not.
" Stop it, Jungkook; leave me alone, okay?"
" It's you who needs to stop this shit right now; listen, y/n, if you don't walk on your own, I swear I will force you, and you won't like it."
Jungkook was different from Seokjin, he was tender with you, and you couldn't care less about his comportment with others; he was always supportive of your decisions, always at your side, at times you wished Seokjin could learn a thing or two from him, but knowing your husband, you didn't want to make that kind of comparison public to his knowledge.
Reading between the lines wasn't your area of expertise.
Seokjin saw your feat, he wasn't at all happy with whatever was taking place, but he decided to maintain his calm and keep his eyes on you a bit longer; he knew that something was about to happen, and he waited eagerly to witness the next scene. He knew that Jungkook was bad news. Hence, Seokjin never expected to see something cheerful coming from a place in which he was involved.
" You will walk through that door; you will open it and run toward me, y/n, you will focus on me, focus on my voice; I'm waiting for you behind that door."
A few drops of warm liquid were running down your cheeks as you opened your eyes; it took you a second or more to adjust to the light of your propinquities; it was nothing dramatic, just a soft, dimmed light coming from the lamp that was neatly placed on his desk, however, you have been in a different universe that forced you to maintain your eyes closed, another reason for which you kept inspecting your surroundings carefully, making sure that you were far away from what has been running in your brain.
Your eyes wandered around until they met the beautiful ones of his.
Your body moved according to the impaired signals your brain was sending, the speed you used getting up from the couch was frightening; it was like you just saw the incarnation of the devil, while in reality, an angelic face, a perfectly shaped nose paired with beautiful plum lips only complementing the beauty of those mysteriously dark orbs, was calmly sitting in front of you, elegantly clad in his usual style, skipping this time the necktie, one hand resting over the armrest, while the other chilling on his lap.
He was beyond handsome, he was strikingly beautiful.
Yet, you were scared; he scared you; everything did.
You stood up in a matter of counted seconds; your actions led him to do just the same- it was not advised for a person in your situation to move around after treatment; you needed to be monitored as a crisis could occur at any time. Hence, the presence of your doctor was of extreme necessity.
Barefooted, you darted away, reaching for the door before your actions were put to an abrupt halt- His hand took a firm hold on your arm, blocking your running figure from any advance in the momentum, jolting you back toward his sturdy body.
His eyes buried in yours, telling tales you'd never hear, expressing feelings that were never able to make it into a confession-brows furrowed while intently intaking any detail of you that was left missed from previous chances of encounters, they indeed weren't many. Still, they were more than enough for him to memorize by heart your traits.
Your face had become just one other reflection he often saw in the mirror while checking himself out; he visioned your smile while back-hugging him as he was shaving, visions of you were everywhere, from his house to any other space he used to occupy. Still, your presence was nowhere to be found in all of those.
But love is just a beautiful synonym for greediness. There was no ampleness when it came to you.
" You can't y/n, you need to recover first"
His voice was an octave lower than usual, ever so calm, ever so soothing.
You were close enough to inhale from each other's breaths; his hand was still on your arm, while his free one was softly placed on your waist, feathery and almost unfelt; his eyes were busy taking trips from your orbs back to your lips, immersing his sub-conscience into thoughts that aren't meant to meet the light, he sighed.
That hot breath filled with his own regrets and agony fanned your face; it has succeeded in awaking you from your daze; you were, and without any kind of prior consent from your brain, deeply lost in him-a labyrinth that you have entered, but you wanted to make sure to escape from before getting engaged any further.
You jerked him away from you- his eyes followed your hands as they did the deed and retreated, looking at the shoulder you touched while sending him off, he straightened his figure and followed by shoving his hands in his trousers pockets, a subtle smile adorned his lips, he wasn't at all bothered by your stunt, not even offended, if anything, what you did only confirmed his assumptions.
"Fine, I'm far away from you..see? Now is your turn to do what I want"
Taehyung approached you with slow-paced steps; he, however, halted when he noticed the way your body started moving backward, furthering with every step the distance between the two of you while his intention was the total opposite.
"Alright y/n, I got you! I won't take further steps, instead, you will. All you need is to go back to your couch, the choice is yours either to lie down or to just stay seated. If you want, I can order something for you to drink, I will order for myself as well, let's enjoy some small talk while drinking some hot chocolate"
Your obedient self decided to make an appearance out of a sudden; just as he instructed, you moved toward the couch while keeping an eye on him; it was like you were sending him some threats that he decided to counter-attack with a genuine smile.
The session of hypnosis managed to help Taehyung on many levels; one of them was finally succeeding in hearing your absent voice; he was sure it was only an effect of his method and not at all a sign of improvement. However, he was content, his ears were blessed with your soft voice as you kept describing your simple routine, the happy tone you used was like some music rhythms to his ears, an addictive sound that he was soon deprived of as sadness ruled, the longer the one-sided talk dragged, the hiss of pain reigned.
" Hum... what about talking more about Jungkook y/n?"
