chapter five

Not listening to Storm's obstructions, Mojave has once again prodded Storm awake.

"What?" Hissed Storm moving her neck to stare at him.

Mojave blinked. "What do you want?" He asked helplessly. "I don't want you to be mad."

Storm flicked her tail. "I guess I could figure something out." She shrugged.

"I can give you a power!" Suggested Mojave, his tail up. "Poisonous earring? Charming tailband? How about a mind reading necklace!"

Storm narrowed her eyes. "That sounds cool." She said as he mentioned the necklace. "But mind reading scares me. How about something better." She thought for a moment.

"How about you make me a dream-visitor?" She asked, handing him her sapphire necklace.

Mojave looked quite pleased. "Sounds great!" He chirped. The SandWing took the sapphire necklace in his palm and muttered a few words that Storm couldn't hear.

She didn't even know why she wanted a dreamvisitor, now that she thought about it.

She was handed back the necklace, though it felt the same. "Okay." She Shrugged, slipping it over her neck and exiting the room. "Let's go, Whiteout."

Mojave rolled his eyes. "Not funny, but if you want, I can go as Whiteout."

Storm turned her head. "Are you trying to impress me?" She asked flatly.

Mojave blinked innocently. "Maybe, maybe not. You never know, let's change the subject, shall we?" He said quickly.

Storm laughed quietly. She still wasn't over the whole Animus thing, but she didn't know why. She didn't even understand why she was mad. He had a power, she had to deal with it.

"You don't have to go as her, but I do want to do something to your scales that would make you look less like a porcupine quill."

Mojave blinked in mock offense. "How dare you! A porcupine quill? I'll turn you into a cactus!"

Storm barked in laughter. "Here, you would be much prettier with some black scales along your neck." She brushed her wing along a section of his neck.

"Pretty? I prefer to be handsome." He huffed. "Though, how did you guess the coloring?"

Storm stared at him in confusion. "Guessed?"

Mojave tilted his head. "You haven't figured out my mother? She made it quite obvious in History." He spread out his wings to reveal a circle of black scales.

"Moonwatcher?" She blinked. "Are you a mindreader?" He shook his head.

"No, but my sister Namib is. Don't fret, she doesn't go here." He curled up his wings. "My father is Qibli if you didn't guess."

"That's cool." Shrugged Storm. "You don't look like a hybrid though. I guess that's how I like my dragons." She teased, flicking him with the tip of her wing.

Mojave blinked warmly at her. "And I guess you are how I like my dragons."

Storm stepped away from him. "Ew, nasty." She hissed. "It was a joke, loser."

He stretched his neck to hers. "Of course, I was kidding as well." He shifted uneasily. "Have you seen Inkwriter and Lotus together? They are inseparable."

Storm let out a short laugh. "Yes, I have. Last night Lotus was jabbering in about how he has to have his bugs and loves his bugs and his bugs were the most important thing in the history of the world. Not to forget, he has bugs."

Mojave laughed, as he did so, the scales Storm imagine don her skull had begun appearing along his neck. It was a beautiful sight.

"But," continued Mojave. "Sphinx has a fat crush on Inkwriter, from what I can tell. I may have set a small spell on his crown to know what the fellow SandWing was thinking."

"Mojave!" Storm bristled. "You can't do that! That's violating property! Personal property!"

The SandWing blinked at her with hurt. "Fine." He hissed. "I'll take it off."

"Let's stop gossiping." Growled Storm. "And get to class."

At lunch that day, Storm spotted a young SandWing talking to a MudWing and a handsome NightWing.

She was blinking rapidly, and laughing loudly, as were the other two. "And so, Largefang," Storm caught from the SandWings mouth. "The client gave me only half my pay- and what did I do?"

The MudWing blinked excitedly. "What? What?"

The SandWing roared in laughter. "I hooked him up, stole his cash and told him that if he ever wanted to see his precious photo album of himself, that he should next time, perhaps, pay me right!"

All three dragons yelped happily, even though the joke wasn't very funny. Storm saw her same thoughts on Whirlmist's face, who was stalking towards the group.

"That was the stupidest thing I have ever heard!" Snapped the Prince. "I had seahorses in the deep palace who could tell better jokes!"

The NightWing, named Largefang, glared at him. "Really? Were the jokes something about you? Then that would be funny." The others crowed in laughter, leaving Whirlmist furious.

He spun around and stormed away, his fishy smell trailing behind. Storm didn't feel any sympathy though, that was needed badly.

She settled down and began to eat a sheep she had caught, then Mojave came over and sat next to her. "Hello, beautiful NightWing." He said, his eyes shining in amusement.

Storm huffed. "I am no NightWing!" She snapped. "The only NightWinh in here is the one who lives in your nose. There are disgusting little bars crawling in there."

Mojave's wing flew up to his nose and he dipped his head in embarrassment. "Whoops, sorry NightWing." He blinked affectionately at her, then stood up and walked away.

Storm didn't understand the affection. Did this dragon love every dragon he met within two days? It was quite absurd in her opinion.

When she finished the sheep, she told up and took a look around. In a corner, Sphinx sat with Stump, both of them awkwardly looking opposite ways. Across the room, Whirlmist was hissing with Largefang again. And not too far from them, Inkwriter was sitting, showing Lotus his bug collection, with all the glass shards and such.

Lotus has one of his wings around her, and she was a bright pink. Her yellow eyes were dreamy as he nervously told her the names of the various beetle species.

Storm tore her graze away to glance at Shiver, who was sitting in a circle of SkyWings who were amazed at her freezing ability, and begging her to make them frozen fish.

Everything was normal in her opinion. Everything was fine.

But Storm knew one thing she needed desperately to do. She needed help for the newest History homework. It was about Whiteout's issues, and Storm had no idea what it meant.

She weaved gently out of the room, and walked up the hall to History. She knocked on the door, but there was no response.

Confused, she opened it to a deserted classroom. Everything was like how it was when Storm had exited it only a couple minutes ago.

She scanned the room for Moonwatcher, but no avail. The SkyWing walked towards Mojave's mothers desk, ignoring the eerie silence.

On the desk was an envelope that read; Very important. It was begging to be opened in Storm's opinion.

She clawed off the red wax seal, and opened the letter. Inside was a price of parchment.

Storm lifted the parchment out, then glanced at it. In fancy handwriting it read;

Dear Moonwatcher,
It's Hope, I hope you don't mind this interruption from your work. Before you ask, me and Peacemaker are fine. He is making plenty of friends, and making mud pies for everyone. Besides that, I was requested to give you this hint or whatnot. Don't ask me what it means, I have no idea. It was from a young IceWing named 'Frostbreath.' Have you heard of him? Neither have I. Anyway, here is what he sent me;

Below the deep blue, clear and true, a prophecy must make its way to you. Look under the crash of the seven seas, and you will find another piece.

Yet again, I inform you I don't know what in the scorching this means. Thanks,

Hope and Peacemaker

Storm closed the letter, her nerves bustling with shock. Who was Hope? Who was Peacemaker? Was this fake?

Without thinking, she slipped it into her homework bag.

History homework would have to wait.
