Save Runa

Standing in the front room at the animal clinic, Runa sips her coffee and thinks about Grant. Setting her cup down and bag, she hears a few of the dogs barking in the back. Reaching into the pocket of her coat for the keys to the back, she feels something else. She doesn't know what it is. So she pulls it out and sees that strange little rock.

The rock has bits of metal in its smooth surface but there are also small, strange symbols carved into the surface. She looks closer and she hears a whispering in her head.

"Runa," the whisper says. "Runa"

A powerful shock runs through her body and she falls down.

A blurry light appears and she tries to focus. She sees a room. It is all white and she is lying on the floor. There are soft blue lights accenting the walls and several staircases here. Everything seems painted white though and she can't tell where the light is coming from. Several doorways lead into strange looking hallways. In the center of the room is a large pedestal with a book on it. On the walls are many mirrors, reflecting the room and the doorways. As she stands, her reflection in the mirrors stand also.

She walks, in a daze to the book on the pedestal. She hears the whisper still. It is coming from the book. "Runa," it says.

As she gets closer the voice says, "Read."

Runa looks at the book and there are strange writings in it. It is some language she does not recognize.

"I can't read this," she says and the letters start to change. They become a language she can read.

I walk the shores of many lands

I see the places that no one else can

I know the secrets of the ethereal war

I've never been here but, I know I've been here before

"What is this?" she asked.

"Read," the voice said.

Runa looked at the book and the page turned.

Go through the door, Runa

Read the words

Know as you are known

Save Runa, before it's too late

Runa looked at one of the mirrors and saw another Runa walking inside of a strange hallway made of stone. She looked angry. She watched as she knocked loudly on a door. The door opened. A woman came to the door dressed in a fiery red gown. It looked exactly like Ellie. The two of them were arguing.

Runa held her head and felt dizzy. A light was strongly piercing her closed eyelids.

She finally opened them and saw someone waving a small flashlight. It was Mrs. Hunter.

"Runa," she said. Runa sat up on the metal exam table. Carl stood there with her.

"Runa dear, you passed out by the desk out front. Carl was helping me bring in some boxes and we found you there."

Runa sat up. "I'm sorry," she told her.

"It's okay. Do you need to go home and get some rest?"

"No," she said. "I'll be okay."

"Are you sure?" she asked her.

"I'm sure. I better get started." She jumped off the table and took off her coat.

"Is everything alright then?" Carl asked.

"Okay Carl, thank you," Marie said.

Carl nodded and walked to the front. As he went to go out the door, he saw something lying on the floor. He picked up the strange rock and looked at it. He turned it over in his hand several times. He looked back and thought about saying something. Instead, he pocketed it and left.
