Not By A Long Shot

"Are you sure?" Ellie asked. She was standing in an exam room with George Saunter. She was using the stethoscope to listen to his heartbeat and lungs.

"Yes I'm sure," George told her. "Nobody at the police department will touch the little son of a bitch. We're lucky the judge even granted a restraining order. They all still love his dad."

"After what he did," Ellie said. "I could castrate him."

"Brian?" George asked.

"Yeah him too," she said.

"They would turn on Brian in a minute if they weren't still loyal to their old chief," George told her.

"Breathe in," she instructed, listening to his lungs. "Okay, breathe out."

She took the stethoscope off. "I get real tired of this 'Good Old Boys' routine. The sad thing is; they really think they're in charge too," Ellie told him.

"Aren't they?" George asked.

"Not by a long shot," she said. "In fact, I think it might be time for some new recruits."

"Well don't look at me," George told her.

Ellie smiled at him, "Georgie, for a man your age, you are in great shape. But I'm not recommending you for active duty. Sorry."

"Well I guess I'll have to just keep my post at the store then," he said.

"Yes indeed," Ellie told him. "That may be a harder post than you realize."
