Mom

Runa must have closed her eyes again because she felt someone touching her shoulder and had to open them to see who it was.

"Runa, honey," said a short, older woman with dark brown hair. She wore glasses and was wearing white.

"Mom?" Runa asked. Her mom looked like she hadn't had any sleep and was crying too. "Mom, I'm okay. It's okay."

Molly Walker was a nurse at this very hospital and it looked like she was in work clothes now. She started to cry again and took her daughter's hand.

"Runa," she said, "You're pretty hurt baby. It's going to take awhile to recover. Do you remember much of anything?"

Runa tried to turn her head away and look around. But she felt the bandage around part of her head now. No one else was there. She looked back at her mom and tried to shake her head to say no.

"It's alright sweetheart. No one can hurt you anymore. Nobody can get you here," her mom told her. "They'd have me to get through."

"I'm okay momma; really. I'll be fine," Runa said.

"Okay. We'll talk about it later,"Molly said. "I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere."
