Kenny
"There's another thing I need to ask you. Have you been having nightmares again?"
Runa reluctantly nodded. "It's not as bad as it was."
"Tell me."
"Well the last time was really weird. It wasn't normal this time. Not that it ever is but, I was in a strange upside down place. Literally, it was upside down and I was walking on the ceiling and the walls would move and the stairs and I could see the stars sometimes and I..."
She paused and got quiet.
"What?" he asked. "What else?"
"I heard him. I heard my father's voice."
Andremoth seemed oddly angry. "Runa, you haven't been taking your meds correctly, have you?"
Runa got really ashamed and looked at the floor.
"Runa, we can continue to do this. You can come in here and hear me trying to help you and not listen. You can go home and not do what I ask but you are only hurting yourself. It doesn't do you any good to go through this and then not follow my instructions."
"I'm sorry," she told him, looking away.
He sighed, heavily. He picked up a pad of paper on his table and started writing. Then he tore off the top sheet and handed it to her.
"Here; I want you to try this. This may help you better than what you came home from the hospital with."
She took the scrip and nodded. "Okay."
Walking into the waiting area at Dr. Grey's office, it was very quiet. There really was no reception area. It was a small waiting room with three chairs. It was dark and cold. There were a few magazines and an old, broken radio in the corner that must have kept people happy at one time by filling the quiet air but not now.
There was one person waiting. He sat on the chair in the farthest corner. He wore layers of old clothes covered with a large trench coat. He was an African American man and his head was clean shaven. There was a scar on his head that looked like a surgery scar. He looked up at Runa when she walked out. He had piercing light brown eyes.
"You," he said. "I know you."
Runa shook her head.
"Yes. You were there with me." He was very sure. "In the Labyrinth; you pulled me out of the void and sealed it. It was you!" He stood up now.
Runa quickly went to the door and opened it. "Well I'm glad you're okay." She was scared and moved to leave but he got closer, quickly and held the door.
The man stood in her space with his face close to hers. He looked intently at her. He smelled funky and she wanted to scream at him.
"No, no." He shook his head. "I swear it's you but, that can't be. Here," he said as he dug in several pockets looking for something. He pulled out a very shiny rock with bits of metal in it.
He took her hand and put the rock in it.
"Don't tell him I gave you this." He nodded to the doctor's door.
"O-okay," Runa stuttered. She slipped it into her coat pocket. "Thank you?"
"Kenny?" Dr. Grey said, opening his door. "Are you ready?"
Kenny looked at Runa and winked, "See you on the other side."
Kenny let the door go and walked into Dr. Grey's office.
Runa darted quickly out of there.
