She woke up in bed. It wasn't her bed. It was a hospital bed. The first thing she heard was a beeping sound from the monitors. It was quiet. It was dark and no one was around. She could see a light from under the curtain pulled across the room. She was covered in a sheet and blanket. And she was wearing one of those barely there hospital gowns. She could move a little and it didn't hurt anymore. Except for where the needle was stuck in her arm with a tube going to a couple of bags on a pole. There were also other wires down her gown.

She felt cold and alone. So she looked down beside herself until she found some big clunky, plastic thing with buttons. She pressed the biggest one and a light came on over her head. She heard a different beeping sound in the hallway. She noticed there was a chair in the room and someone's coat was laying on it. There were also cards and a balloon by the wall. She wasn't alone.

Laying there for what felt like an eternity she wondered what became of Brian. Did he bring her in to get help? Maybe he realized he went too far this time and would take care of her better now. Poor guy, she thought. He's probably beside himself with grief. Maybe that was his coat laying there. She couldn't tell.

"Oh there you are," said a nurse who pulled back the curtain. "I knew you'd be back with us soon." She came in and turned off the call light. She started checking Runa and the monitors. She was a thin woman with brown hair and looked to be in her mid 30s or so.

"Where?" Runa tried to ask.

"Akron General," she told her. "Your mom has been worried sick. She hasn't left all day and they told her she needed to get something to eat. I knew the moment she left you would wake up. It always seems to happen that way.

"Left?"

"Just downstairs in the cafeteria," she explained to Runa. "She'll be back any time now. Let me get you some ice chips. I'll be right back."

Runa started to wake up a little more and sawthat her left wrist was all wrapped up and her head felt funny too. Shewondered what all was wrong with her and how she would explain all of this. Shedidn't want to get Brian in trouble.
