Prologue

"Are you sure we should be doing this?"

A dark gray tom faced the gray-white she-cat, "Maybe it's against the warrior code. But  I think I'm right. Don't you want this?"

"Of course!" the she-cat responded, "but what if we're caught?"

"Then we will live outside of the clans," the tom held his head high, stars making his pelt shine, "I believe in us."

"Me too," the she-cat whispered, and pushed her face into his fur. An owl hooted in the distance. Tempting prey scents wafted through the air. But they were content, despite the tom's worries about ShadowClan and the she-cat's worries of how to stay a loyal warrior of RiverClan.

Soon they drifted asleep together, their worries blown away by the wind. They had their own code- similar to the warrior code, but different. Some might say better, even. But not perfect.

                                                                                            ---

The black she-cat watched from StarClan. This was one situation she was rendered powerless. Well, if you can't fight it, join it, she thought. But how?

An idea struck her. She uttered the following words:

To save the clan of wind on waves,

A half-clan will be born.

She'll lead her clan to victory,

Her loyalty untorn.

A last battle to be won,

A treacherous journey.

Fate and will will join,

forming all clan's destiny.

The prophecy echoed in the night air. Above RiverClan territory, lightning struck, splitting a tree in half and sending prey scurrying into the leader of RiverClan's paws.

Her eyes glazed, "It is a sign," she murmured, "a half-clan will save us."
