Jace x Annita - Dangerous Magic
She looked carefully at the blonde guy who whipped the Seraph Blade around. He probably didn't know she was there, nor did she care. She didn't want him to know she was there.
At a moment in sight, she sighed in defeat. She withdrew her eyes away from the glass that divided the training room from the main headquarters, and left, leaving Jace Wayland to train on his own.
'Anni'- Someone called. She turned around at the sound of her name, her light red hair whipping around after her. The voice belonged to Alec, who was walking towards his office. Thigh holster and leather jacket on, the guy looked as if he was ready to go on a mission. -'You ready?'
'Yeah'- She sighed.-'Let me grab my jacket'
Alec threw a large piece of fabric to her. She caught it, recognizing the silver leather instantly.
'Done that.'- He smiled. Anna raised an eyebrow. She slipped the jacket on, and they left.
Alec watched as Anna fought off a major demon. She was always the one chosen to go on the worst and most dangerous missions, as she was a brilliant shadowhunter with perfect fighting skills. She had her own Seraph Blade, and no one was allowed to touch it. It had special fighting runes and, surprisingly, a precarious engraving of a heart on the handle.
Jace had done that.
Anna and Jace's story was something to remember. Or to forget.
They were teens in love, Jace had never met someone like Anna and Anna had never met someone like Jace. They complimented each other, after all, she was fighting partner to his parabatai, and he was a brother to her best friend. He was feisty, she was sweet. He was outgoing, she was tactical. Indeed, perfect for each other.
But their relationship, unfortunately, wasn't all pink and blushy. It was in fact, dark and dangerous.
Anna being one of the most experienced shadowhunters in the institute, was the one to be sent on the deadliest missions. Usually accompanied by Alec, it was no news when she returned that she was in the infirmary room of the Institute for a number of days on end because either she sported so much scarring her body almost couldn't take them, or she had an excessive amount of demon poison in her that could kill her in an instant. Not the same happened to Alec though, but because his stance of fighting wasn't as physical as Anna's. Besides, Alec couldn't be there every time to protect her.
And Jace suffered it. A lot. He was almost never sent in missions with Anna, and he would worry to the point of critical stress about her. He would always make Alec promise, before each mission Anna and him had together, that he would do anything in his will to keep her alive, and Alec willingly complied. He knew what Anna meant to Jace and what Jace meant to Anna.
But when Anna would go on a mission, Jace would go crazy. He would stay up until stupid o'clock in the morning just to wait for her to come back to him. He would walk around the Institute deep in his thoughts, his fingers fiddling with the blunt silver ring in his right hand. He would ramble on and on to Izzy and Clary about how worried he was, to the point that Izzy once had put him to sleep by slipping a sleeping-draught into his drink. It's fair to say Jace was furious the next morning, but Izzy understood him. He was worried.
One day came around where Anna couldn't take it anymore.
She had just gone back to training after three days recovering from one of her worst missions. And Jace had made sure she was okay a million times before training with her. She could see the hurt in his eyes every time he looked at her, the impending worry. She knew he would stay days beside her when she was asleep in the infirmary, and that he would cry for her when no one watched or heard.
So one day, she decided to do something that would hurt her more than anything but would save Jace.
That morning, she went to Magnus' apartment and asked him to erase all of Jace's memories about her and all their relationship.
And, after a lot of quarrelling with Magnus, Alec, Izzy, and almost everyone else, she convinced them that, after all, it was the best for Jace. And that night, when Jace had fallen asleep, arms around Anna's body and his lips slightly puffy from kissing her, she slipped out of his hold, kissed his forehead softly, and then watched as Magnus erased all trace of her from the blonde's mind.
Magnus gifted Anna with the best gift she could've ever received that day. He removed Jace's ring from his finger, also erasing this last one's memories of the ring, and he stored all of the memories inside the ring for Anna to keep. And this one did, slipping the ring onto a delicate silver chain, and keeping it latched around her neck for the rest of her days.
She didn't know what would become of her without Jace. She knew she would never meet someone like him, even with her young age she knew that. Jace was the love of her life, the everlasting holder of her heart, even though he moved on without any knowledge of the redhead's heart in his possession.
Anna was the one to suffer then. And everyone around her felt it as well.
The first few months, Anna would wander around the Institute, avoiding Jace. Jace had absolutely no idea of who she was, so introducing herself all over again was one of the hardest things she had ever done for sure. And Jace hadn't seemed that interested in her at all, not like he was before at least.
She would cry, sometimes. She would go to Alec or Izzy or even Lydia, she needed as much comfort as she could get. The others watched as she sometimes fazed out while looking at him train with a Seraph Blade, reminiscing over everything they had done together before she decided to erase his memory.
And Clary's appearance crumbled her all over again.
She knew Jace would move on eventually, find another girl. But she didn't guess how much damage that fact would cause to her. And Clary, with her red hair and short height, looked so much like Anna ('He does have a thing for redheads'.-Alec had said the day he met Clary.), that it was like seeing themselves all over again, except it wasn't her. It was Clary instead.
But some time later, Anna eventually learned how to swallow her feelings. She didn't move on at all, she still loved Jace with all her heart, but she learned to appeal to Jace as nothing more than a partner at the Institute, maybe even a friend. He learned to train with her when Clary wasn't available and he would ask her about the most dangerous missions she had ever been in, and she would answer, somehow lacing her answers with a little hope that he would remember. But he never did.
Jace was storing his Seraph Blade in the weapon wall. He held two of those in his hand, one belonged to Anna, who had been training with him and had asked him to store hers as well, as she was supposed to get ready for a mission.
When she grabbed Anna's blade, the hold of his hand on the mighty blade felt so natural, and somehow so familiar, he was surprised. He, however, managed to miss the heart engraved into the sturdy handle of the runed blade, that would've been so familiar to his fingers and to his own stele, that was the one that did the engraving. He placed the blade right under Clary's, that was under his, and aimed for the door.
However, a slight gleam caught his attention from the corner of his eye, and he stepped back.
He picked up a silver chain with what looked like a silver ring laced on it, and he knew it belonged to Anna. He twirled the ring in his hands, examining it. It looked and felt so familiar, but he was sure it wasn't his. Storing it in his back pocket, he picked up his stele and left the room.
A few days later, Clary and Jace had fought. Jace was fuming, he had seen Clary kissing Simon. Clary was indiferent, at the most.
Alec, Izzy and Magnus were his support group. Alec would train day and night with him, letting him let off steam. Izzy would listen to his constant rambling until he got tired of talking, and Jace would do both.
He found the necklace again when he was sorting through his clothing. He looked at it again. It was dark and mysterious, just as if it had some sort of dark secret inside. He slipped it into the pocket of his leather jacket and stepped out of his room, ready to go on a mission.
When he returned, he slipped out of his jeans and threw on a pair of sweatpants and a shirt before going out of his room. The ring laced on the necklace was making him lose his mind, something was so odd but so real about that ring.
He walked to the main lobby in the Institute, successfully finding Isabelle, Alec and Magnus, hands on the table that held the main computer system.
'Has anyone seen Anna?'- He asked firsthand. Three pairs of eyes widened, and they looked around suspiciously.
'No. Why?'- Alec asked softly. Jace whipped out the chain, and the siblings and warlock stopped dead for a second.
'I found this the other day while we were training. I know it's Anna's, she wears it all the time.'
Izzy and Alec looked at each other with mirrored expressions, and they both turned their heads to Magnus, who just shrugged knowingly for the other two Lightwood siblings. It didn't need words, they all knew exactly what it meant: "He will find out."
'Maybe she's in the training room, Jace'- Izzy carefully said. However, her brother from another mother didn't listen. Instead, he seemed sort of in a trance, as he twirled the blunt silver ring in his fingers.
He didn't listen to Alec calling. He didn't listen to Magnus or Izzy either. Something was so familiar about that ring, he was sure it was something important.
'Wait, Jace, don't slip on the...'- But Jace couldn't listen anymore of what whoever it was was saying. As the ring slipped into his ring finger, he felt sick.
He felt as if his world had suddenly turned white, and his mind had just exploded. He just stood there, frozen in place.
'Jace?'- Alec asked. The blonde looked up.
'Anna.'- He simply said. He looked from one face to the other. He looked betrayed, he jnew exactly what was going on.
'Anna'- He repeated, and sprinted out running towards the training rooms. As he skipped Shadowhunter after Shadowhunter, the last months he had seen as unknown in his life slipped past his mind at extensive speed.
He spotted the redhead with a Seraph Blade in hand, cleaning the weapon with its utmost fragility.
'Anna'- He simply stated. The redhead turned, surprised to see Jace looking at her so intently. She stayed in place.
'Oh, Annita.'- The whisper left Jace's lips, before he took the six strides that separed them, not hesitating to grab her face with his hands and crash his lips to hers.
Anna was taken aback. Frozen in place. So much, that her Seraph Blade fell with a loud clatter beside her. She was unable to figure out what was happening, but the only thing she knew was that she had needed that kiss so much, that she couldn't resist giving in.
As Jace felt her fall into place, her lips moving against his and her whole body falling into her embrace, he pulled her closer by her waist. Her hands were placed on his chest, and the world around them dissipated slowly.
Then Anna knew Jace was crying.
She could hear him sobbing slightly between kisses, his tears falling on her cheeks. She pulled apart when his hands were on her face again.
She just looked at him. At that moment, Izzy, Alec and Magnus came in running, exclaiming the couple's names. But they stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the situation.
'Why?'- Jace simply asked. His eyes were closed, his forehead against Anna's, who's face was still in her hands. She had her eyes closed as well, she knew he was hurt and couldn't bare looking at him.
'I had to.'- She answered. Jace pulled away and looked at her, enraged.
'What do you mean, you had to?!'- He asked. He looked at the others.-'And all of you. You knew about this. Didn't you?'
No one answered until Magnus stepped forwards.
'I erased your memories and put them inside the ring, Jace.'- He admitted. Before Jace could attack the Warlock, Alec stepped in between his brother and his boyfriend.
'Jace, stop.'- He ordered sternly. Jace looked at his parabatai.
'Alec, I don't think you get the point. Your little magic boyfriend over here erased my memory.'- Jace faked calmness.-'And I want to know why!'- His voice boomed over the institute.
'I couldn't bare to see you hurt because of me'- Anna's voice answered softly. Jace turned around.
'What?'- He asked. Anna nodded.
'Jace, I had to. I went on deadly missions and there you would stay, waiting for me, suffering. You would cry your way to sleep every night by my bedside at the infirmary. Nightmares consumed you, Jace. I couldn't see you suffer like that because of me. I decided on this.'- She explained.
'But, Anna.'- Jace started.
'I did what was best, Jace. For you.'
'For me or for you?'- Jace asked venomously. Izzy, Alec and Anna's face transformed. Now Anna was enraged.
'Do you know how much I suffered?!'- Anna screamed.-'Do you want to know? Ask anyone here! Seeing you forget about me completely, train with me as if I was another girl in the Institute. Having no one to come to after missions. You can ask your siblings about that!'- She screamed, the tears threatening to brim over and fall. Jace kept his stand.
'I can't believe you did this.'- He showed her the ring. He looked at the others. -'And I can't believe you kept this from me.'- He looked intently at Alec.
'You promised you were going to keep her from any pain.'- He jutted a finger at his brother's chest.
'And he did, Jace'- Anna cried.-'He protected me mission after mission.'
'Yeah. But pain also comes from the emotional.'- Jace didn't even look at her. -'And that you didn't protect her from.'
Alec didn't answer. Jace backed away.
'I'm done.'- He said, and walked away.
He didn't hear Anna's yelling of his name behind him, the rage blocked his senses completely. He slammed the door to his room closed and sat on his bed, trying to get himself together. He knew Annita didn't mean to hurt him, and he loved her now more than ever.
He stood up and opened the door, just to see Anna standing there already. His lips fell inches before hers, as they both held their breath.
Jace didn't hesitate. Pulling the girl closer by her waist, he crashed his lips forcefully to hers.
She returned the kiss, her hands bunching up his shirt as she pulled it towards her.
His hands responded to her body as they kisses feverishly, his hands slipping under her to lift her up. She wrapped her legs around his hips and her arms around her neck, her fingers pulling at his blonde hair.
He pushed her against a wall, barely parting his lips from hers. He pressed a kiss to her jawline as she pressed her forehead against his.
'I love you. I always will. Even if I have to suffer.'- His voice was barely audible between his panting. His stamina rune was shining brightly, meaning it was in use. Hers was shining as well, but the love rune was shining on her much brighter.
'I love you more.'- She said. Jace flashed her a sincere smile and kissed her lovingly.
'I love you most.'- He smirked. And with that, he twirled her around in his arms, hearing her joyful laugh as he kissed her again and closed the door to his room behind them.
