"You're doing it wrong." Alec snapped, he had been training the new girl for the past few months and she wasn't putting in any effort to learn. The girl's eyes shown like glass as she avoided making eye contact with the older boy. His hand grabbed her's as he roughly took the wooden bow from her.

"Do you even want to be a shadowhunter?" Alec asked, his anger slowly taking over. "You've been missing classes, lacking effort, not eating or drinking, and you haven't said a word since you've arrived." Y/N continued to avoid his gaze as she removed the quiver of arrows from her back. 

"Why are you here?" He demanded. God, wouldn't she tell him anything?

"I don't think archery is for me." She said quietly, giving the quiver to Alec before leaving the room. He watched her go and felt his anger fade as he noticed her wiping her eyes. What was up with this girl?

Alec kept a close eye on Y/N throughout her training, but he couldn't help getting frustrated with her. She wasn't trying to get better at anything. She looked lifeless and depressed since the day he met her. And it only got worse. Alec had asked his sister Izzy to try to talk to Y/N, but it was useless. Even his stubborn, relentless, and determined sister couldn't get information out of her! Alec felt he had enough with Y/N by the time of their first lesson of the day. It had been long tedious hours of boxing, running, sweating, and failing, it was too much for him. 

"You're done here," Alec told her huskily. Y/N looked at him in surprise, the most emotion she had shown in days... besides her usual look of sadness. She nodded and picked up her towel, cleaning her sweaty face. 

"For good." He finished. Y/N stopped, and looked at him. Alec felt his heart clench, her eyes were filled with tears and her expression he knew all to well. She was ashamed, broken, and lost. Had he made the decision too soon? Or was this right? Alec felt feelings and thoughts swarm inside him as he watched her.

"Okay." She croaked, gathering her things and walking away. Alec stood, with his eyes closed, and listened to his heart beat. It almost hurt every time it beated, slow and painful. He thought of the time he first saw Y/N in a pair of ripped jeans and a t-shirt looking lost and drained as the Institute's shadowhunters informed her of her new life. He remembered watching her repeatedly take a small portion of food every night, and never eat a bite of it, only waiting for everyone to leave the kitchen so she could throw it away. He recalled the first time they trained by wrestling each other, the look of defeat already in her eyes before she had even lost. He thought of the time he showed her a new rune and drawing it carefully on her pale arm, right next to her parabatai rune... but her parabatai rune was faded... and her parabatai wasn't here... her parabatai must be... dead.

Alec's eyes flew open as he raced after Y/N. She didn't want to be a shadowhunter without her parabatai, she didn't want to be without her parabatai. She didn't want to live without her parabatai. Alec yelled for Y/N and ran down the halls of the Institute, not caring who would hear. He felt relief flood through him as he saw her turning the next corner. 

"Y/N!" He called, almost running into her once he stopped. Y/N looked at him curiously, her cheeks still had tears rolling down them. Alec gently took her arm and ran his thumb over her faded parabatai rune. He felt her tense at his touch, but didn't pull away. Alec felt his heart race as his heart took over his mind. He pulled Y/N to him and kissed her with all the emotions he felt towards her. She made him feel angry, frustrated, annoyed, and to the point of which he would have hated her. But he didn't. He couldn't;  Y/N made him feel crazy.
