Bonus Text #2
Zoe and Tina Gray's deaths 1906
Never before had Tina seen her sister so sick.
It was a hot Sunday evening, the sun lazily disappearing behind the hills, the sky a beautiful blue and orange swirl. Black birds and crows swooped over head, the occasional squawk or song filling the near silent village.
"Mother has no idea what is wrong with her." Tina's younger sister Bellamy whispered, her young face drawn wig concern, her skinny fingers unconsciously playing with the hem of her summer gown. Tina couldn't stand it when people fidgeted, especially when her emotions were high, so gently placed her hand on Bellamy's, stopping her.
"Has she gotten in touch with father?" Tina whispered back, focusing on the crack between the door and doorframe. Through it she could just see the body of her sister under her bed covers. Tina could not explain the tight feeling in her chest. It was like nothing she had ever felt before.
Bellamy slowly nodded. Tina turned to her sister and felt tears well to her eyes when she saw her sisters expression.
"Tell me, Amy." She said in a chocked voice.
Bellamy began to sob uncontrollably.
"Damnit, Bellamy!" Tina yelled, pushing past her and into the bedroom. Tina slammed it closed behind her, causing Zoe to stir.
"Tina?" She said in a voice so fragile it broke Tina's heart. "Tina, is that you?"
Tina neared the bed and sat on the end. "It's me." She said, gently stroking back a loose sweat dampened hair behind her twins ear. "I'm here."
"You should go." Zoe said in a strangled voice. "Father told me what I have is contagious."
Tina blinked back tears. She needed to look strong for Zoe. Just like Zoe had for her whilst growing up. When Tina had been scared, Zoe would hold her hand and tell her everything was okay. When Tina would hesitate to do something, Zoe would march in first to show her it wasn't scary.
"I'm not leaving your side." She whispered and slowly laid down beside her sister, wrapping one arm around her as she uncontrollably shuddered. "Never."
*Sadly Tina caught what Zoe had and they both died from the deadly disease. I wanted it to be this way to show the strong bond the two sisters have and what lengths they will go for one another. It explains why Zoe always acts angry with Tina in the beginning of the story because she is mad at her sister for giving away her life to be by her side. Zoe blames herself for Tina's death even though it was Tina who wouldn't leave her side. I love the way they died (that's sounds terrible and morbid, apologies) because it just shows how far a person will go to be with their loved one.*
