CHAPTER 4

"Shadowclaw! Where are you going?"
"Come back!"
"Shadowclaw!"
Shadowclaw ignored the desperate yowls as she ran away. She was certain that this was who she had to kill. Oh StarClan am I too late?
She sprinted through the trees, energy buzzing through her like a bee.
Where do I have to go? Ashwing, help!
She was well away from camp now, nearing the border that was leading to nutural ground.
Maybe I can still catch him where he attacked the patrol!
She stepped over the border without hesitation. She glanced up at the moon, in the process of rising.
I'll have to find shelter, Shadowclaw's stomach gurgled, and food.
She continued to run for a while. Since it was dusk, she managed to keep going until the sun had set. By that time, she'd almost collapsed. She stared back into the shadows.
I'm far away from ThunderClan territory now...she reflected, realizing in that instant that she had no idea where she was. Oh well...she thought, I'll hunt and see better in the morning.
Shadowclaw dragged herself over to a nearby gorse bush. She was on a moorland. She settled herself amongst the undergrowth, swiftly scenting the air to check for enemies.
After a few moments of thrashing, Shadowclaw difted into a dreamless sleep.
                          ☆☆☆

In the morning, Shadowclaw began to hunt. When she scented the air, she caught a fresh scent of rabbit.
It passed at sunrise. She guessed, Oh, StarClan, I don't know how to hunt on moorland.
She spotted the rabbit eating a clover. She thought it ate a clover because of the warm temperature, but she couldn't be sure. After a slight hesitation, Shadowclaw began sralking towards it. I know this isn't how you catch rabbits; there are loads, so I'll run at the next one.
Slowly, the rabbit turned around and saw her. She froze. It swivled back around and began to sprint away. With a yowl of fury, she launched herself at the quick prey. It was gone before her paws landed. She saw it not very far away. She ran, muscles aching; she was not used to hunting on bare earth. It wasn't a long chase before the bunny diving into a burrow.
"Fox dung!"she yelled.
WindClan go in tunnels...why can't I?
She stood for a moment. She pondered on what she should do.
It's probably gone by now and there are other scents of it's kind.
But then again I am a warrior; warriors should never give up.
She sighed and stepped away from the burrow.  Shadowclaw followed her nose to another rabbit. That time, she ran at it and was succsesful.
Thank you, StarClan, for this prey.
Shadowclaw was struck by a sudden thought.
What if StarClan didn't follow me here?
She dismissed the idea with a shake of her head.
Even if the rest of them didn't Ashwing did...I hope.
