Chapter 1 - Blindness
"Come on, Blizzardkit! Get a move on!" A fierce, yet playful growl of a voice said. Her eyes blinked open and she looked around with curiosity. The fierce light of the entrance to the nursery blinded her for a few moments. "Cedarpaw, just because you're older, doesn't mean you're her mother." A friendly, bubbly voice said. Spottedpaw blinked, smiling at Blizzardkit, her shadow blocking the white light from Blizzardkit's blue eyes. Cedarpaw grumbled, turning around and stalking off, his pale tail disappearing with an angry flick. "My brother is always being mean, thanks, Spottedpaw." Blizzardkit said gratefully, smiling. "No problem, Blizzardkit. It's the same thigh with me and Twigkit, only he's younger." A dark brown tabby blinked, his head pulling up from his nest. Speak of the devil. Blizzardkit thought, her smile loosening now that he had heard. "I'm awake, sis." Twigkit said, a ghost of a smile on his lips. He turned his green gaze to the dappled gray she-kit standing in front of him, ignoring Spottedpaw, who was leaving. "Wanna play?" He asked with a fully-visible grin, making Blizzardkit blush. "S-Sure," she said happily, standing and stretching. Twigkit bounced out of the nursery, disappearing into the light, the same one that awoke Blizzardkit and blinded her. Soon after her hesitation, the small pale gray and dappled she-kit ran after him.
A loud thud sounded, a winded sigh after it, as Twigkit fell to the ground once more. Perhaps because he was taking it easy on Blizzardkit, or perhaps because she was the better fighter? Blizzardkit laughed, her paws planted firmly on Twigkit's brown tabby shoulders, mock-surprise. "Why, Thunderclanner, you're so weak!" She squeaked, smiling. She flicked her dappled tail, jumping off him to the sound of a flicked ear. "Blizzardkit, you've won..again. This hardly seems fair to poor Twigkit." Her mother said simply, laying down with her paws tucked. "Goldenheart, why, I'm perfectly able to defend myself." Twigkit growled, standing up and brushing dust off himself. "I'm sure, Dear." Said Lizardtail in a laughing voice, smirking. "Mom, ugh!" Twigkit stomped off into the nursery, and Blizzardkit burst out laughing. Goldenheart grinned, and Lizardtail joined Blizzardkit before standing and heading off to the nursery. "Let's see what's wrong with the baby." The white she-cat said before disappearing, and Goldenheart turned to her daughter. "Blizzardkit, do you know how old you are?" She asked to a startled Blizzardkit. "Of course, 3 moons old." The dappled she-kit replied simply. "And you can beat a 5 moon old tomkit?" Asked her mother, her head cocked. As realization struck Blizzardkit, she frowned deeply. "He let me. That...fox-heart! I wanted a fair game!" Blizzardkit growled, flicking her tail and stomping her foot. Goldenheart sighed, shaking her head. "You'll get it one day, my dear."
Darkness hit the camp of Shadowclan like a bullet, coming as quick as a jackrabbit. A light tom, almost identical to the one we call Blizzardkit, strode into the nursery with pride. His blue eyes lit up the darkness, shining on a particular golden face as he peered down at his mate, settling in beside her. As her head rose, Goldenheart caught her mate gazing softly at Blizzardkit, who was curled up by her stomache. "Glad to see you made it, darling." Goldenheart purred, and the Tom blinked, moving his gaze away from his precious kit. "I'm sorry I haven't visited before..Blackstar needed me." He said apologetically, gazing once more at his identical kit. "She looks just like you, Stonepelt." Goldenheart said with sadness. "Just as Cedarpaw does." Stonepelt licked his mate's cheek. "One of our kits will look like you, I promise, Goldenheart. Sleep now, love." He said, setting his head down on her shoulders as she welcomed the darkness.
The starry cat blinked at the dappled gray she-kit who walked beside him, cocking his head. "Why are you hear, young one? It isn't your time yet." He asked once more, the question to which he knew the answer, but wanted to keep her busy. "You called me here, Nightstar. I'm surprised you don't know!" The feisty kit retorted, and they finally reached their destination. There, a white Tom with black socks stood-or sat, really. Beside him, a ginger Tom sat. "Blackstar?" The kit called out, stopping immediately whereas Nightstar came to stand in between them. "-a-and, Firestar? You're Thunderclan!" She hissed, but Firestar just smiled. "You're apart of something important, Blizzardkit, and your father and leader know it. They just don't want to scare you. But, it is time you know." The ginger Tom said, walking over to a pool of water and swirling it around with his starry paw. He was half-faded, but his ginger-ness shone bright, maybe the Thunderclanners believed in him as much we believed in Blackstar, Rowanstar, and Shadowstar. Blizzardkit strode over to the pool, jerking back as her nose touched the water. Flashes of fire and the sound of distant wails of despair sounded, and she cringed. "This is your future, Blizzardkit." The distant echo of Blackstar sounded, then the mewling of kits and their pelts appeared. One of calico, one of leopard, one of black. One by one, they disappeared, but the leopard-pelt shine brighter and brighter until it dissolved and became starry. The vision ended, leaving a bewildered Blizzardkit, sweating and panting in her nest with a gray stranger beside her mother.
Blackstar's words are etched in her mind.
"The twig is shredded by fire, the fern is burned, the star has exploded, but the blizzard comes on a soft breeze and cools it all, when the leopard shines brightest of all, only to fall by peace."
