Beneath the Surface
The chaos outside the club heightened Aurora's senses, her heartbeat echoing the rapid rhythm of gunfire in the distance. Enzo's protective embrace offered a sense of security amidst the turmoil, his reassuring words a balm to her frayed nerves. "It's fine, sweetie," he murmured, his voice calm despite the chaos surrounding them. "Just another day in paradise."
As they navigated through the chaos, Aurora couldn't help but feel a rush of adrenaline coursing through her veins. The thrill of danger mingled with the undeniable sense of excitement, reminding her that she was now part of a world far removed from the ordinary.
Exiting the club, they dispersed into different cars, Aurora paired up with Enzo, a security personnel occupying the front seat. "It's fine," Enzo reassured her, noticing her unease. "The windows are bulletproof." His gaze remained fixed on the rearview mirror, vigilant and alert, as they drove away from the chaos left behind at the club.
"Enjoying the thrill, mate?" Enzo questioned, noting the slight excitement in Aurora's expression. "Well, your company sure is exciting," she replied with a fiery smile, her eyes sparkling with adrenaline-fueled exhilaration.
Aurora's unscathed and confident smile did a number on Enzo as he couldn't help but be amused by her. However, his focus quickly shifted when Aurora was interrupted by his phone buzzing. "It's Barrow," said Ralph's voice on the other end of the line, evoking an irritated and steely expression from Enzo. "How did that little bastard get his hands on our private schedule?" he growled through gritted teeth.
"It's some sort of technical breach," Logon's voice chimed in from behind. "One of the men had our CCTV footage at the Orchid. I'll have to see how they found us there. It's not that easy to track people down anywhere here," he concluded with a note of concern in his voice.
Hearing this, Aurora immediately turned to Enzo. "Do you have a laptop here?" she asked urgently.
Enzo nodded, rummaging through his attache case until he found it. Confusion flickered across his face as he handed it to her.
"Then give it to me, genius," Aurora replied, snatching the laptop from him. Her sudden assertiveness startled even the driver and the guard.
She swiftly opened the laptop, turning to Enzo with a piercing gaze. "Password," she demanded.
Enzo hesitated for a moment, feeling a chill run down his spine at her sharp look. "It's... ah, give it to me," he stammered, taking back the laptop and quickly typing in the password, unwilling to speak it out loud.
He offered the laptop back to Aurora, who eagerly snatched it up and began typing away. "Is Logon available?" she asked, her eyes glued to the screen.
"Yeah," Enzo replied, admiring her assertiveness as she worked. Sensing her impatience, he swiftly handed her the phone without hesitation.
"Hey, Logon, it's me," she said, her voice firm and determined.
"Yeah," came Logon's reply from the other end.
"What's the situation?" she inquired, her tone sharp and focused.
"Nothing much. We know they had our intel before we even set foot in the club. One of their guys had our picture outside the cafe. I need to find out if it was just some random bystander or if they were tipped off about our schedule," Logon explained, his voice tinged with frustration.
"Pray it's not the second," Logon continued, his voice tensing with concern. "Because if it is, my friend, we've got a mole."
"No kidding," Aurora replied, her tone serious and resolute.
Moments passed in silence, interrupted only by the rhythmic tapping of keys as Aurora furiously typed away on the laptop. The tension in the car was palpable, each occupant lost in their own thoughts.
The silence was broken by Logon's frustrated sigh. "I can't find anything," he confessed, his voice heavy with frustration. "There were no freaking bystanders anywhere close to even recognize us. I've checked through the streets' CCTV. It has to be an inside job."
"Hold your horses," Aurora interjected, her tone cutting through the tension. "Do you have the picture from the phone?"
Logon's irritation seeped through the line. "You think I had the luxury of snagging an armed enemy's phone?"
"Fair point," Aurora conceded, undeterred."Well, how was it?" Aurora persisted.
"How was what?" Logon replied, clearly perplexed.
"The picture," Aurora clarified.
"Are you seriously asking if it was a nice picture?" questioned logon with irritation obvious in his voice
"I'm asking about the angle, the perspective from where it was shot, anything like that," she pressed further. "are you even getting what I am saying?" annoyed from his previous remark.
"Well, from what I recall, I could see the club's door clearly. It was when you and Nina had arrived," Logon recounted, struggling to piece together the details through the haze of the drinks he had consumed earlier.
"Hmm," Aurora murmured, her eyes fixed on the screen as she scrolled through the images. After a few moments, a smile spread across her face. "There it is," she announced triumphantly. "No worries, boss. Not an inside job."
Enzo, sitting beside her, looked at her with a puzzled expression, prompting Aurora to glance at him with a reassuring smile. "And what does that mean?" Logon's voice came through the phone.
But before Aurora could respond, they arrived at the office, surrounded by security. Enzo guided Aurora out of the car, saying, "Let's discuss this upstairs."
They all settled into Enzo's private office, the atmosphere tense with anticipation. Logon approached Aurora, a sense of urgency in his voice as he said, "Do the honors, will you? What have you got?"
Aurora replied nonchalantly, "The fact that the four of you men are good-looking and perfect eye candy for women." Her response earned a confused expression from all, prompting Nina to interject, "I do agree, but I don't think it's the right time to simp." Aurora chuckled at their reaction before continuing, "Well, apparently one of the waitresses at the cafe posted the picture, stating, 'This is exactly why I live for, their faces alone are healing me.' I believe one of them saw this and found out about us, as the attack was made a little later after the post was made."
"Son of a bitch," replied Logon, frustration evident in his tone. "Which idiot has gone insane enough to post about our whereabouts?" Edgar scanned through the information before stating, "We'll have to look into that and make sure no one ever dares to do the same again." Enzo nodded in agreement, adding, "Oh come on, if anything, you four should be proud." Aurora chimed in, enjoying the situation, "Well, if not for their awful temper and manners, this could have been a daily happening." Nina joined her with a smirk, "Exactly, it's a testament to your charm, gentlemen."
Both Aurora and Nina's comments earned frustrated looks from the four men, who contemplated the possible repercussions of the situation. "Anyways, it's quite a way to start working," remarked Aurora, rising from her seat.
"It sure is," agreed Logon, offering her an acknowledging smile.
"I shall now take my leave," she said, smiling, turning back only to be halted by Enzo's unexpected offer. "I will drop you off," he stated firmly. "You will?" she asked, surprised. "I can," corrected Enzo, his response adding an awkward tension to the atmosphere for everyone present.
Sensing the tension, Nina interjected, "Hey, I'm on my way home too, and I happen to live close by Oasis, I'll drop you off; I drive well." Aurora considered the offer and eventually accepted. As they both made their way out, a moment later, Nina's head popped back into the room. "Hey, Edgar, I'm taking your car. Mine's still parked near the club."
"And how am I supposed to go home?" Edgar questioned, bemused.
"Not my problem," she replied, continuing, "Carpool with your besties." With a smile, she left the room, leaving Edgar to chuckle in both amusement and irritation. "Remind me why she still has her job," he remarked.
"Because she's good at it," replied Enzo, his eyes still fixed on the door, his mind still fixed on Aurora.
As the meeting concluded and the office emptied, Enzo found himself lingering in his thoughts, unable to shake the memory of their first kiss. The way Aurora's cheeks flushed against his hands as he held her face haunted him, leaving him grappling with a newfound sense of longing and uncertainty. With each passing moment, the intensity of their connection grew, weaving a web of desire that Enzo couldn't ignore, even as the weight of responsibility pressed upon him.
Can you blame the waitresses tho ? if anything , I understand the girlies
Anyways , Nina is my spirit animal with her "not my problem, I'mma still steal your car" attitude.
