Chapter 8: A dream?!
Raven:
Don't you humans hate it when your dreaming of running towards the Exit, and it keeps getting further away. Then the monster that's following you, is gaining on you over and over until *Snap*.
I woke up with a start and gasped for air. Not knowing where I was, I simply pinched myself to make sure this was a dream. And it was. So I laid back down, feeling very lazy about it.
"You will catch a cold laying there on the floor." Said my conscience in my head. I laid there on the grass in a small hill. The stars shined brightly above me, as if Heaven is sending secret messages across the sky.
"There is no rain, so what reason is there for me getting sick?". I said mockingly, but I spoke too soon. Thunder rumbled across the sky and made the dark night light up. It gave a feeling of being photographed in a second. I felt droplets in my forehead. As each drop got faster, it made me feel cold. I didn't care for it was a dream. None of it was real.
"Achoo! *Sniff* This is a dream, right?". My nose felt stuffed. I started thinking if I should even get up from here, but Weird enough I felt something trying to reach my mind, I blocked it as usual. If its the same as all my dreams then... It starts like this, and then something comes out of the pitch darkness, making me run none stop until I wake up screaming... "sigh".
"So our Uncle "Oscar" is actually Roran Garrowsson, just like the book he read to us when little. If what he said is true, then who am I... Or better yet, who are we?. Raven and Me are twins, and nothing more. But recent events say otherwise." I stretched and yawned.
I stood up and turned around still feeling something bugging me in my mind. Like a little tick trying to suck blood. "Ok, come on out. I may be young, but you should not underestimate me." I said looking at the pitch darkness. Rain kept falling getting heavy as time passed, my black short hair was plastered down, my clothes felt heavy on me, and I was getting tired by the second for some reason.
I heard Heavy foots digging and squashing against the grass and mud. The sound started getting closer and closer until it was close enough for me to smell it's breath. It smelled so bad I wanted to fall down barfing, but it was thanks to working at Uncles barn, cleaning the Horses stall that helped me. I assumed it was a horse, but It was not. Thunder rolled across the sky, and in that flash I saw something so horrific that it made my skin crawl.
"Do youuuuu knowwwww whyyyyy youuuuu areee heeeerrrreeee, Shurtugal?" Said a hollowed voice, followed by multiple whispers behind it.
"Yes. This is my dream, as it has always been. Now get out!." I said feeling confident, but my feet would not stop shaking. Nothing can harm me, for this is my dream, my mind.
"You thiiink... That you are safe heerrrreee?" Said the voice louder with laughter. Right Behind him, the multiple whispers started to sound as crazy screams.
The rain grew heavy on me. Thunder flashed on the background, and I saw the beast in front of me clearer than before... It was horrifying to say the least. A mix of a Horse and I don't know a huge bat of sorts in bones covered in pieces of its flesh, rotting with insects and worms around its body. It had a dark cloak over it that is now covered with holes and burn marks. Its eyes were hollow, but every time it snorted they pulsed bloody red. When it moved you could hear the squish of its bones and dead flesh move together. I wanted to hide in a hole, but what was more terrifying than the animal itself... Was the army behind him.
Another thunder flashed, and I could not lie to you, there were rows and rows and rows of undead soldiers just standing there as if awaiting for their order to attack and eat all in sight. Behind them was a City in Ruins, buildings on trees destroyed and a huge tree in the center burned to the ground.
I backed away slowly. But as soon as I was about to run, the voice came back so fierce that it made me kneel before it.
"Youuuuu thiiiink you can hiiiiide for everrrr... We will find youuuuu and your brotherrrrrrrr. Hehehehe..." The voice grew clearer, "No one can escape the wrath of the Shade and the undead... You will revive me young lord. Little by little I grow stronger and when I regain my strength You will revive me and I will serve you".
The shouts of the undead grew louder by the second, I forced myself up and slowly managed to step back. My feet were sinking on the wet grass as if the ground wanted to swallow me. I wouldn't stop shaking. Never in my life have I wished to have my idiot brother by my side.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, and I froze "Am I dead?" I whimpered. But it was an Older Elven smiling upon me. "Elven is that you?!" I said being able to move again.
The Dark animal turned to dust right away fast, and the undead grew quiet for some reason. The more I looked at Elven, the more features I could see on his face. He looked older, with long silver hair. Bright Silver Light seeped out of him, it started covering the land in a blanket of white silver laying the dead back to sleep.
"You will pay for thisssss Vrael... I do not know how you are still alive, but I have not forgotten about your precious Dragon..." The voiced grew quiet.
Elven smiled and pulled me into the light. The sound of rushing water filled the air, I looked at Elven who looked back to his normal kid self, "Why are you in my dream Elven and How did you make yourself look older?" I asked him in a low voice. Still feeling shocked and scared about what happened.
"Shut up Raven, I can't concentrate with you talking to me now. It's critical for me to find a place away from your dream as possible." He said in a rushed voice.
It felt like seconds; but we appeared at the same hill in my dream. Only that it was daylight, and there was the same city in the trees, not too far from the hill. It was not destroyed this time.
"Welcome to Ellésmera Raven, the Main place of the Elves, also known as Du Waldenvarden." Said Elven Laughing. He sat down and started to look at the sky.
"You mean, this is not a dream?!" I asked him with eyes wide open.
"Actually it's a dream, our dream to be more exact... well I didn't even knew this place until yesterday, And every time the voice talks inside my head, it hurts and I feel like I am not controlling my own body. Telling me things about this world and how to fight. Like a walking library of sorts. Its talking to me every time I see something new and I get images, sort of like the time I was training against Orik, and I managed to best him in a weird way. That was because the voice guided me through it." Said Elven shaking. "It feels a bit alien to tell you the truth".
"How are you in my dream then?" I asked curiously.
"Well My essence is here, but not me entirely. Like right now, I am sitting next to your bed in our room. The voice told me to concentrate on your mind. And here I am. I appeared in your dream with the Monster of the Ra'zac and Durza The shades own army." Said Elven in a trance.
"What?!" I said getting up from the floor.
"See what I mean, its putting words in my mouth that I do not even know". Said Elven desperately. "I feel like brushing me teeth!".
"Ok so that is Ellésmera?" I said trying to change the subject.
"Yeah, I saw it in my dream once. It is the home of the Elves. Once in my dream, I managed to walk all the way to the inside of the city, and got next to a Huge Tree that is sacred in this place called The Menoa Tree it is one of the oldest and largest trees in Du Weldenvarden. The tree has the spirit of the elf Linnëa, who imbued her consciousness into the tree by magically singing for three days, and has since watched over the forest. On the bottom, where the tree trunks reside, was a girl our age. She was singing a tune that made me want to fall asleep. She had long black wavy hair, freckles on her cheeks and a voice of an angel." Elven said in a dreamy voice.
"What was her name?" I asked him while looking towards the tree.
"Her name was Zaphyra". Said Elven smiling, "And somehow she knew I was there. She looked at me with a serious face." Elven sat down slowly and put his hands around his knees... I knew that meant this story still bothers him.
"She knew you were there?!, but it was your dream. How is that possible?". Raven started pacing around trying to think about the possibilities of that happening.
"She said that "scrying" people is not good. That I need to learn manners, unless I looked for her because of an emergency". Elven yawned and looked at Raven, " What about you?, why were you dreaming about an Undead army and the Ra'zac's kids, Raven?". Elven stared at Raven, but He would not meet his eyes.
"I do not know Elven. I do dream about the place, but this is the very first time The Dead appear before me... And that voice". I shuddered at the though, "I don't want to hear that voice again. It gave me chills inside my very being, and it tried to get into my mind Elven... I remember Murtagh teaching me on how to block someone out, but this thing was not forcing itself, oh no he/she was slowly scratching the wall of my mind to find a weakness." Elven stayed there looking at Raven.
"What if I told you, that I know who he/she is...?" Said Elven slowly.
"Is that voice in your head telling you its name?!, please tell me!" Said Raven sitting next to Elven.
Elven stared at the open plains towards Ellésmera with eyes wide open, "Raven, this being is supposed to be dead... But how-" Elven sat there quietly making Raven impatient.
"Damn it El, tell me its name!" Said Raven grabbing him by the shoulders.
"Durza..." Said Elven with a disgusted face. "He forced spirits inside of him, and also let the evil ones control his body. That's how he became a Shade... An abomination." Elven stood up and cleaned his pants.
"Now what?" Asked Raven still looking at Ellésmera.
"Well we can wake up, or go venture the town". Said Elven walking down the hill.
"Can you wait for me to answer?" But his question was taken by the wind, for Elven was at the entrance of the Forrest.
"Wait, why are you in such a hurry?" Asked Raven jogging down the small hill and next to Elven.
"No hurry, just that I feel like I have forgotten something." Elven continued on.
"Okay... Were in a dream, why would you need to-, never mind." Raven followed Elven close behind him.
"Something feels odd El." Said Raven looking behind him, "I get the feeling we are being watch from all around us. Even in a dream I hate that feeling".
We made our way through the Forrest and arrived at a small clearing that lead to a small shack on the outside of the city. It was a neatly wooden shack painted White with Golden rims across the edges, and it glistered different colors when the sun hit it just right. A small river went across the side, and there was a chair with a small table on the side of the river with burned out wood.
"Hey El, I've seen this place before..." Said Raven, but Elven was standing on the door of the shack. "Don't do anything stupid" I said thinking back when he told me that the Elf girl knew he was there.
"Raven, there is something inside... Its calling me." Elven looked down at the wooden floor and back at the door. He knocked 2 times and waited.
.
.
.
No answer. "Sigh, cmon its not like someone will open the door when it looks abandoned." Said Raven walking away.
"Ok fine, let's continue to the city." Elven kept looking back to the shack as if waiting for it to open. As they continued on the door opened.
"That was close. What do we do now, my lady?" Asked the mystery voice.
"We shall wait. I was not aware that his brother was with him... It does bring questions to how this happened, but let us be patient. The right moment will arrive." Said the woman's voice.
"Yes, my lady. Very wise" said the male voice.
"Let us go towards The Menoa Tree. If he is who he says he is. Then we will find him there." Said the girl voice with determination.
"But-" the male voice tried to speak, but was interrupted.
"Enough!, I am doing this for the good of the people of Ellésmera. If we are to save them then we need The Last leader of the Riders on our side once more. Now lets go Blödhgarm". She opened the door and the wind came in gently. Her hair moved as a lone river, and her eyes shined bright green as the grass in the morning mist.
He looked at her with a serious face. Then he turned his ears to the left as if trying to pin point a sound. His Green Cat Eyes would make anyone nervous, and his fur shined a Dark navy blue embowed with magic.
"Fine Zaphyra" said Blödhgarm with a purr. "Let's go from here. This place brings sadness to me."
