11. Fabia

We can hear talking in the basement. We are at the right house, I think to myself.

My heart is racing. Augustin is biting his lip, he's nervous.

"Do we go down or do we get them up?" I whisper.

"If they come up we have a way to escape, let's not go down."

I nod and watch as he walks towards the door. He knocks gently, the voices beneath us fall silent and then we hear a few snickers.  I realise I have no weapons. Wow great going Fabia.  I think to myself. I look to Austin, he is standing with his hands out, ready to protect himself. I back up quietly, if I need to escape, I need to be able to run to get alone first. If someone grabs onto me while I teleport they will come with me.

I take another step back when I hear a loud squeak in the floorboards. There are the sounds of footsteps coming up front the basement. Soon people start piling out. Each person walks with their head hung low, a black cape with a hood covering their face. Almost twenty people walk out when I see something unusual. One of the people in black are holding the arm of a young boy. The boy is looking up at Augustin. His dark brown hair is longer than Augustin's and it almost covers his bright green eyes. The boy has hope and fear in his eyes. The other thing that didn't fit was a young girl, she was maybe five years old. She was the only kid in the group. She was obviously part of the group because of the cape on her back.

I look at them closer and notice that each person wearing black is a man and they all carry some sort of weapon, most have swords, others have bows, maces, daggers. The little girl stands with her hands outstretched. She hasn't yet begun the rituals formed to get rid of her powers. They were probably still under trained and weak, but she looks sure of herself.

when no more men come through the door, they all lift their heads to reveal black eyes and sly smiles. Their eyes, the color of the night froze me in place. All at once the men charged.

Each of them held their weapon with precision and got into place, those with swords and masses come towards us, standing right in front of those with daggers. In the back of the room stand the archers. Some of them climb ladders propped up against the wall and sit on the beams supporting the ceiling. The man holding the young boy is still in the doorway. The little girl is nowhere I can see. A sword comes up to my chest in a quick swooping motion. I barely have enough time to move out of the way. I jump back making the man who attacked me lean a bit too much. He caught himself quickly and didn't stumble. His quick stab brought me back to reality. I started going from empty spot to empty spot. I almost forget about the archers when an arrow flies to the place where I was standing seconds before.

What if I died right here? Would my parents know? Would they even care. No, they can't care, they have no feelings. I had to fight for myself. I look over my shoulder and see Augustin fighting off one man after the next. Every time one of them attacks he bends their sword the other way, making it harder for them to attack the next time. I teleport without looking where and bump into a man with daggers. I jump back but not before he manages to nick my arms. I feel the warm trickle of blood on my arm and the sting of a deep cut, but I ignore it. While I teleport I can't feel anything anyway.  Iteleport to the corner in the back of the room. That's when I see her.

Her head is still down, her arms still out. But now, she is glowing. Well, her hands are at least. They are glowing blue. I watch transfixed. I don't want to look away. I have never seen someone glow before. From her fingertips a light grows, taking on a human shape. Soon the blue light becomes solid. My breath catches as I try to run away, a man comes up from behind me and grabs my arm. I kick and try to hit him. He lets go once the creature approached me. Although solid, it still glows blue. I reaches out a hand and touches my arm. I let out a scream as my body  convulses and I fall to the ground. The fighting around me dies down.

Tears fall from my eyes as I lay on the floor in pain. The cut on my arm is nothing compared to the pain I had just felt. I looked at my arm. just above the cut was a burn as big as a baseball. My skin is bright red and peeling already. Big boils rest there.  I try to move but it hurts. The girl looks over me smiling wickedly. In an instant a man comes and grabs my good arm pulling me up. I look around the room. Augustin stands next to the boy. It must be his brother. They both stare at me, neither worrying about themselves. As I keep watching though, I notice they don't need to be afraid, no one is coming at them anymore. Augustin is looking at me with tears in his eyes.

"I'm sorry," he mouths. I wrack my brain, trying to figure it out, it's almost as if my brain has been fried by the electric shock.

"It was a magic shock you're fine."the man holding me whispers in my ear.

Augustin turn his back and walks out the door, there is no protest from the men wearing black. The blue figure disappears as the girl waves it away.

"Augustin," I whisper, I have no strength to yell. The man hears me though.

"Haven't you figured it out yet?" He asks. I shake my head slightly wanting him to explain it." Your friend brought you here so we could have you, isn't that a great friend?" He pauses before adding " To us of course, not to you." The girl comes close to me and lifts her hand. I flinch away but she places her middle and pointer fingers on my temple. A sharp pain fills my body once again, making my muscles tense up. I notice the man holding me has rubber gloves to protect him from the shocks when I look at my arm before the wave comes and engulfs my thoughts, my pain, my world, in darkness.
