A Conundrum

It's probably not a good idea
A word to the wise
Wisdom comes in many shapes
And that just isn't my size
But you're probably right
Shooting myself in the face
Doesn't sound like a proper way to die

But we're here so I might as well
Ladies, what is a woman?
Gentlelads, what is a man?
Lately, I struggle
To find a proper stance
It was once quite simple
Easy to understand
But now my brain is scrambled
In a whirlwind of sand

My reality glitches
Because I'm not strictly
One or the other
When I can choose to be any
But if I choose to be the other
Am I not what I'm rejecting
If not, then what makes pray tell,
Me one or the other
Why is the software mismatched?
Is there somewhere I can download the patch?
I don't understand it
What makes a man a man.

Perhaps I shouldn't try to
A word to the wise
Someone always ends up offended
Or offended on another's behalf
Sticks and stones can't break my bones
But words
Words can surely hurt me
Stepping on people's toes these days
Is more dangerous
Than stepping on mines
Because you explode
But remain alive
With no place to hide
From the vultures
But hell
Sticks and stones right

The pendulum of definition
Swings between relative
And absolute
At the hands of convenience
The whole world should accept
What I am
Because that is who I am
Whether the world accepts me
Or not
But if it shouldn't
It's wrong and it's backward
If I should protest
I'm wrong and I'm backward

A word to the wise
Lies only beget more lies
So what is the truth?
When there are so many
Then is it truth
If there are so many?
Convenience is truth
When truth doesn't like me
Truth is truth
When it does

But is that the question
At the heart of it all?
What is the human?
Where does it come from?
Why is it here?
We all want to know
If the answer is there
But we have to like it
Because then why
Would I feel contrary?
Unless if it's not the whole truth
Or there is something left out
So is truth above feeling?
Only when
It serves my convenience
Truth ought to be lenient

But then, would it still be truth?
What is truth, argh!
If it is one thing
I'm a hater
If it is the other
I'm confused
If this world has laws
Then truth has to have rules
Shoot me in the face
I'll die
No matter how I feel about it
That's truth
If I shoot you in the face
And you want to pretend
You're still alive
Well you can't
Because hello!
I shot you in the face
No that's a lie
I can still move my fingers
Like hell I'm going to die
Take it out
I think it's stuck
In between my eyes
Hey
Hey!
Don't you walk away from me!
Ughh, it stings
I wanna cry

That's how truth feels
Every time
We pry open its mouth
And shove its severed limbs
Inside
And pull its mouth on either side
It should be happy
We've arrived
'Sing for me!'
We chant
We smile
Because now
Truth is just as grotesque
As we are
'Dance for me!'
Its hollow bones
Fluting away at our tunes
Begetting more truths
In this moonlit tomb
Truth looking more
Like a creature of doom
Than a beacon of light
But these days
That's the kind of truth
That should suffice
