CHAPTER 4

CHAPTER 4: _They've promised that dreams can come true, but forgot to mention that nightmares are dreams too_

Ivy's P.o.v

I was still on the road for the past twenty minutes, waiting for a cab as usual. After several demoralizing minutes of waiting and waiting, I decided to stare at the sky once again, what once bright blue had already faded to a misty grey, tinted with a rusty orange that the sun had left in it's escape.

I looked at the busy street, people pushing, yelling and honking their cars, people clutching their possessions and others towering over taxis to collect change. My eyes kept flickering from one place to another, studying everyone's movement. And that was when it started.

I saw a man and his daughter walking hand in hand, the little girl kept jumping and pacing up and down excitedly while he held her firmly making sure she didn't fall. I looked up closely and saw little me and my dad instead, but reality cut up on me before it got any worse.

I realized it was just my imagination.

Again came the rippling wave of despair that caught on my gut, feasting on what felt like little inside me. I couldn't cry, not anymore at least. Instead, I decided to walk a little, a bit tired of waiting and meandering on the same old thoughts.

Suddenly, I heard the wheels of a car screech next to me. The yellow taxi slowly came to a halt beside me, the glass winded down swiftly revealing a man which appears to be the driver of course.

"Good evening ma'am, do you care for a ride." Wait, was that even a question? Of course I did!

Without even replying, I entered into the back seat of the vechicle and gave him my destination. I took out my phone, clicked on my favorite music for the week, Memories by Maroon Five, and wore my earpiece. I did that a lot whenever I was in a Taxi.

There I was yet again, in the middle of my thoughts. I closed my eyes letting the music drift the bad memories away, each beat shuddering through me, making my heart thump and my blood frantically flowed through my veins. As bizarre as it's sounds, I actually felt better.

I was so lost inside the music I didn't even take notice of where we were going. I eventually came back to my senses and removed the ear phone before peering my eyes out the window. Everywhere was quiet except for the bumbling sounds the vehicle was making; no horns from cars, no chattering of passers by, I was in a totally different street I didn't remember coming across or maybe I did.

"Where are we?" I queried, still trying to process what was going on. "This wasn't the destination I gave you." I sputtered, watching his expression from the front mirror. Whatever this was, I knew something bad was definitely bound to happen.

"Calm down Miss, this is just a short cut." He replied shudderingly, a sign that showed this was more than what it was, it was a trap.

"What do you want from me?" I started in a shaky voice.

"What are you talking about Miss?" He inquired, faking a confused look on his face.

"Let me go!" I yelled. Sure, I couldn't hear my rapid breathing, but I could feel the oxygen flooding in and out of my lungs. I knew more than to believe in his act.

With force, I struggled to open the locked door even going as far as making an attempt to break the door or the glass perhaps. Hesitantly, my eyes slowly looked at the front of the vechicle. I saw a man all covered in black suddenly appeared in front of the car, his face covered in a black mask just like the one in my dreams. Uh oh!

My worst Nightmare was right in front of me.

'No, no, no, no, no. This is not happening again." I mentally screamed at the sight. My body felt hot and  sweats started trickling down my neck.

Let's face it, there's only one thing I could do to escape: either remain where I am or run out of the freaking car for my dear life. My hand trembled and my eyes watered as I reached my hand towards the car door again. There was only on thing left on my mind.

RUN!

"Ma'am I'm so sorry, I was forced to do this. My families lives were threatened and if I didn't agree to this, I wouldn't even live to see my unborn child, I...."

"Open the door." I interrupted him calmly, cutting him off the sudden rant. I tried all my best to breathe but failed. My heart started pounding in my chest and shivers cursed through my veins.

"But Miss, they are....." He recoiled but I cut him off again.

"Open the freaking door! Now!!!"I thundered furiously, my once calm demeanor suddenly exploded into wild fits of anger. I was completely scared out of my wits.

The poor driver left with no other choice, unlocked the door immediately, his eyes widening in surprise at my sudden reaction towards him.

Without wasting anymore time, I jumped out of the car and sped off, my feet moving as fast as lightening or maybe that was what I thought.

A group of gang members suddenly emerged before me, sprouting out of nowhere. That didn't stop me from my escape either ways. With my fingers curled into a fist, nails dug into my palm, I turned towards another direction but the more I tried escaping, the more they kept increasing.

I fought a rising panic as it surged through me but all I could feel was nothing but blind terror. There was only one route left for my evasion.

I turned and entered the woods.

My heartbeat kept pounding at a high rate as I raced through the forest. I was running out of breathe, panting every now and then as I lurked through the tall pine trees that kept appearing in front of me.

I felt their presence close by but ignored and kept changing my course not knowing exactly were I was heading to. I continued increasing my speed even at a higher rate, I doubt the fastest runner could catch up with me at that moment in time.

I suddenly made my way to a cliff, how I got there and why it was there didn't matter to me at the moment.

My legs were wobbly in fear but I refused to give up. I whirled my heels around wandering my eyes through the forest for another way out but it was already too late.

I couldn't see or hear them. I could only feel their presence and just like that, they magically appeared in front of me, surrounding me one by one.

They didn't launch at me, instead, they inched a bit closer with the misconception that I had no where to go which was unfortunately so true.

I was trapped.

I trembled inside and even tried suppressing a shiver, I was in a complete state of panic but I kept still, fighting the rising panic. I tried telling myself, the whole fiasco was just my imagination. Then I tried imagining it like it was a movie or story. If I was the character, what would I do?

At that moment, I only wished for one thing. That the ground could open up and swallow me?

No,

That this was only a nightmare. My worst nightmare!
