Chapter Twelve

Rowan and Ebony wandered the town, currently taking a break from all the murders. Rowan had, at first, opposed this 'break' because Bloody Rose could strike at any moment, and they would need to be ready. Ebony had told him he was getting to worked up over the situation and just needed some time to relax. Rowan had finally agreed he would work better if they just went out and took their mind off of the whole thing for just a moment.

"Hey, where are you taking me?" Rowan asked. Ebony had told him she wanted to take him somewhere fun, but she never told him where, of course, knowing Rowan hated surprises.

Ebony gave him a playful shove. "If I told you then it wouldn't be a surprise now would it?" the black cat joked with a smile her eyes glistening with happiness.

Rowan sighed and didn't respond. He was still anxious about the Bloody Rose. Why hadn't they caught her yet? If he really was a good detective they would have caught her by now or at least know who she might be! "H-hey, what's wrong?" Ebony asked, noticing Rowan looked a bit off.

"What? Oh! It's nothing," Rowan stammered, his cheeks growing hot. Ebony looked at him, ears flat against her skull, telling Rowan she knew he was lying. "Alright fine. Please be honest with me Ebony..." he started, staring at his paws as they walked. "Am I a bad detective?"

Ebony's eyes went wide with a mixture of sympathy and shock. "Of course not, Rowan!" she meowed. "Why would you think that?"

"Well... if I was a good detective, we would've caught Bloody Rose by now," he sighed, kicking a little stone with his front paw and watched it bounce off into the street.

"Come on Rowan, don't think like that. I think you're the best partner I've had in a while," Ebony reassured him. "Look, I'm sure we are really close to finding the Bloody Rose," she added.

Rowan looked up at her and nodded. "Thanks, Ebony, that means a lot," he mewed with a smile.

"Now come on, we're almost there!" Ebony mewed, bursting out into a sprint and dragging Rowan along with her. The black cat brought Rowan to what looked to be an amusement park. The whole park was filled with squeals of joy as cats rode the many roller-coasters, and the air smelled like fried food and cotton candy. Rowan's eyes widened; he had always loved amusement parks.

Once the two had paid for their tickets, Ebony ran inside, Rowan right on her tail. "What should we do first?" she asked looking almost as if she were to explode with excitement. Rowan looked around, his eyes scanning the map that the cat who they paid for their tickets from had given them.

"Hmm," Rowan said in thought, narrowing his eyes in slightly. Should they go on a ride first or should they play a game? "Let's go on the Catastrophic Swings," he suggested putting his paw on the map of where it was.

"Sounds great! What are we waiting for?!" Ebony asked before running off again. As before Rowan bolted after her but this time all his worries about the Bloody Rose had vanished for just that moment of running. The Bloody Rose was always in the back of his mind, somewhere -except for that moment.

When they had arrived at the swings, Ebony and Rowan could barely walk on their own paws from running so fast. Ebony smiled, looking into Rowan's eyes. "Come on! We're here!" she said getting into the line of cats. Rowan bounded after her standing right behind the black pelted she-cat. Finally, it was their turn! Rowan and Ebony both climbed onto a swing and waited as a cat who worked there made sure every cat was strapped in before going to go start the ride. The swings had started to move and spin around the pole that held them all. Since Ebony and Rowan chose swings that hung next to each other (Rowan on the inside, Ebony on the outside) they both looked at each other and smiled. Before long the swings were in the air spinning all the cats on the ride making them all squeal with joy.

Since these types of rides didn't last too long, the swings had soon started to slow down, and not too long after that, the ride had stopped. Rowan leaped out of his swing, feeling very dizzy from the ride, and fell off his paws. Ebony ended up falling right next to him, and they both laughed before being showed where the exit was by the same cat who made sure they were buckled into the swing.

As the day passed the two went on roller-coasters, won games together, and ate all the deep fried food their stomachs could manage. The sun had finally started to set as Ebony and Rowan walked out of the amusement park. Ebony had a big brown teddy bear on her back she had won and Rowan had his favorite superhero plush; Super Paws.

Rowan looked up at Ebony and smiled. "I had fun today," he purred happily. Maybe this was what he really needed, just a break from the Bloody Rose case.

"Me too," the black she-cat giggled in reply. "We should do it again sometime!" she said with a smile looking at the beautiful sunset. Rowan nodded in reply staring into the sunset as well. Soon they arrived at their cars (which they had totally forgotten about when walking to the amusement park) and they bid each other farewell and got into their separate cars to go home.

As Rowan drove, he couldn't stop thinking about the case. He was such a mousebrain! Why did he dedicate a whole day to an amusement park when he was supposed to be solving these crime? Foxdung! Rowan sighed as he parked his car in the drive way and got out of the seat. He padded into his house.

One thing was certain, in that moment.

He would find the Bloody Rose, no matter how long it took him.

I made them a ship. Whoops. #Robany
