Note: Before you proceed into the story let me remind you that Kanmani is now 25 years old which means she was 17 when Veera and his mother left the village. She was young  and still in school at that time.

Recap: Veera and his mother arrive at village and later Veera, Kanmani leave for Chennai on receiving call from Ishwar.

Veera was driving and Kanmani was watching out of the window without speaking a word to him. Veera tried to make to conversation but Kanmani responded with a word or two. He stopped the car off the road and moved his seat back turning to face her completely. Holding her forearm he jerked her to look at him and held her chin.

Veera: Kanmani, look at me and tell me the reason for whatever you and mother are doing in the name of condition. I m really going mad now and its becoming too much too handle.

Kanmani: I don't have any reason Veera. Now please start the car and we need to reach Chennai as soon as possible.

Veera: Enna patha paithiyakaran madhiri theriyudha ? ( Do I like some insane man to you ?)

Kanmani: Veera..

Veera took her palm and placed it on his head and looked into her eyes.

Veera: Tell me now that you don't have any reason.

Kanmani yanked her hand away from his hold and glared at him. Veera hit on the steering gritting his teeth.

Veera: Don't you love me Kanmani ? Don't you want us to get married ?

Kanmani: I love you and ofcourse I want us to be married. I know you are stuck between me and your mother and I m sorry that I m unable to fix this. I agreed to return to Chennai forever after a year Veera, what else you want me to do ? Actually you should be asking your mother if she wanted us to be married.

Veera: You blame her and she does you but you both actually don't seem to care about me. Here I m being tortured between you two and I don't know what should I do. Please just lie to her that you agree and lets handle everything later after our marriage.

Kanmani did not reply and Veera sighed defeatedly and shook his head.

Veera: This shows how much you both trust me and love me. Fine do whatever you both are intended to do but be sure all these fights will be worthless and you both will regret if I kill myself and join my father. I m sure you both will be in peace.

A slap landed on his cheek and he saw tears rolling from Kanmani's eyes. He regretted saying those words even when he knew how much they had suffered with the death of his father. He tried to apologize but stopped when he saw her staring at him. Kanmani turned her face away from him and closed her eyes leaning on the head rest. Veera saw the tears rolling from the corner of her eyes and tried to wipe it but Kanmani covered her face with her pallu.

Veera: I m sorry. Please try to understand. I didn't meant to hurt you. I just blurted out in the heat of the argument.

Kanmani sobbed thinking of the day that changed all their lives forever and is still haunting their lives.

Flashback:

Kanmani, Arul and Veera were so happy in their life with Ranga, Veera's father Manickam and Mathi. Ranga was a farmer but more than that he was the master to train the students in and around the village with martial arts. 

Manickam was a man who always stood for justice which was Mathi's concern and she hated everytime Manickam got into problem for interfering in other's business. Singaram was the man whom Manickam despised since he was involved in money laundering and people were unware of his evil intentions. He took away people's lands in exchange for the interest.

Mathi had always got into fight with Manickam for interfering in Singaram's business. Kanmani and Veera were big fan of Manickam who also taught them about standing against injustice. He never failed to teach them to be brave and face anything if they had to fight for justice.

They never knew that his nature to fight for people would land their family in a grief forever on the fateful day.

Veera and Arul were visiting their friends in the nearby village to play cricket. Ranga was busy training the students. Kanmani was closeby to reach Veera's home but frowned to see Singaram and his men leaving from the gate. She quickly rushed to his home and opened to door only to plop on the floor looking at Manickam who was gasping for air.

Kanmani: Mama, enna achu ? Athai ..( Uncle, what happened ? Aunty ..)

She was about to get up but Manickam held her hands pulling her closer.

Manickam: Promise me you will not Veera alone. You both should stand for each other. My blessings will always be there for you both. Mathi promise me that you will let Veera to fight for this people's justice. People like Singaram should be punished and you will not stop Veera like you tried me. My death should not stop my son from doing any good for the people.

Kanmani: I promise you but let us take you to the hospital. Please uncle. 

Manickam: Mathi, promise me. This is my last wish.

Manickam showed his palm and Mathi placed her palm over his which made him smile and with that he breathed his last. Kanmani and Mathi were frozen to see him not reacting. Kanmani could not accept that her uncle was no more. 

Kanmani broke into tears and Mathi rushed to the door shutting it and sat next to Kanmani holding her to her chest.

Kanmani: Enna nadandhuchu athai ?  Singaram enna pannaru ? ( What happened aunty ? What did Singaram do ? )

Mathi: I will tell you but promise me that you will not tell anyone about what happened now until I tell everyone on my own. Veera will be devastated and he will need time to know everything and I will tell him at the right time. Promise me on your uncle that you will not reveal this to anyone.

Kanmani promised her not knowing what was running on her aunt's mind as she couldn't see Mathi crying holding her dead husband's hand.

Mathi: Your uncle had heart attack. This is what we will tell everyone. You get me ?

Kanmani: but

Mathi: You promised me and will not tell anyone. Singaram, that bastard killed your uncle infront of my eyes.

Kanmani: We should inform the police aunty. 

Mathi: go ahead and reveal it to everyone but don't forget the promise you made on your uncle. Also be ready to see Veera breaking down completely unable to handle the news of his father's murder. Finally you will see me die if you disclose this to anyone breaking your promise. I don't want to leave my son an orphan.

Kanmani sobbed and took Mathi's mobile and called her father informing him about Manickam. She then called Veera whose call went unanswered. She tried both Arul and Veera who were playing cricket and failed to answer the call.

Soon the crowd gathered and Kanmani was shattered and felt like a fool for making a promise to her aunt who was now crying over her husband. Veera and Arul returned home and was shocked to see the crowd before the home. Kanmani who was holding on the cries burst out seeing Veera who plopped on the floor and screamed looking at his dead father. Next day Manickam's funeral was done and Veera shut himself refusing to meet anyone. Everyone was consoling Mathi but Kanmani didn't care for her and her eyes were only on the door waiting for Veera to let her in.

After so many pleadings and cryings Veera opened the door letting Kanmani and she immediately hugged him with his head on her chest.

Kanmani: Azhadha Veera, mama namma kooda dhan irukkaru. ( Don't cry Veera, uncle is living with us only )

Veera: Appa illama naa eppadi iruppen Kanmani ? ( How will I live without my father Kanmani ?)

Kanmani: shhhh, we are here with you. Uncle is with us and will guide us. He won't like to see you crying like this. Calm down Veera, I can't see you like this.

She waited until his sobs died down and made him have food. Two days later Kanmani got to meet Mathi in the backyard and stopped her.

Kanmani: What happened to uncle ? What did Singaram do ?

Mathi: He killed your uncle injecting him with some medicine because your uncle poke his nose in his business.

Kanmani: When will you tell everyone about this ? 

Mathi: I need time. you are still young so forget about all these and go, look after your studies. I will take care of this.

Mathi walked away and Kanmani entered the bathroom and drowned herself in the cement water tank used for water storage and all her cries and screams muffled inside it. 

She came out drenched and sat on the washing stone as tears washed her cheeks. Every nook and corner of the place screamed the memories of her favourite uncle and she couldn't believe they lost him by someone killing him and the worst feel was that she knew everything but she couldn't reveal it to anyone.

She was unusually silent and everyone felt she was missing her uncle. She only spoke to Arul, Veera and Bommi. 

Three months rolled by and when she returned home from the fields she saw Mathi and Veera standing in the hall of her home. Ranga and Veera had a gloomy face.

Kanmani: What happened now ?

Mathi: Me and Veera are leaving this village. I have spoke to Veera's uncle in Chennai and they will help us to get settle there.

Kanmani: How can you leave from here aunty ? Did you forget that

Mathi: Kanmani, I know what I m doing. We both need this change. I can't stay here and the memories are killing me.

Kanmani: Veera, are you leaving ?

Ranga: Mathi, you have lived all these years and we will take care of you. I will be there for Veera, he is my child too. 

Mathi: He is coming with me. We are leaving now.

Veera hugged Ranga and Mathi walked out with Kanmani following her.

Kanmani: You said you will inform everyone at the right time but why are you leaving now ? What about the promise you made to uncle ? That was his last wish aunty, please don't do this. I promised uncle to stay with Veera and you can't take him away from me. You are breaking both your and my promise to uncle by leaving this village. Please aunty.

Mathi: Your uncle is dead Kanmani and I cannot lose my only son for the very reason why I lost my husband. I regret that I will not be able to keep up the promise but I will be happy that my son will be safe and alive. Try to forget this and move on in your life. 

Kanmani felt her heart being stabbed hearing her words and saw Veera walking out with Ranga. Before they could exchange any words Mathi held Veera's hand and walked away but Veera was looking at Kanmani who stood broken and all he saw was the hurt in her eyes, a betrayal.

Mathi packed the last bag and saw Veera who was wiping his tears.

Veera: Maa, please maa. You know how much this village means to us, to appa then how do you want to leave us. When did you speak to uncle and all of sudden you are saying your decision.

Mathi: Veera, I lost your father already and I m so weak to handle anything here. Please listen to me and lets leave from here or better I will die and you can do anything to your wish.

Veera: Maaa, why do you say this ? Please maa

Mathi: Decide Veera. You want your mother or you want to stay here.

Veera gulped and wiped his tears bringing out his bag from his room.

Veera: I will meet Arul and Kanmani. I need to speak to them before we leave from here.

Mathi: Not now. We are getting late.

He begged her but everything fell on deaf ears. Veera placed the luggage in the trunk as slowly as possible looking at the way if he could meet Kanmani for one last time. Finally they got in the car and his heart shattered when he saw Kanmani running towards the car and she stopped on seeing the person in the car.

All Veera saw in her eyes was rage, betrayal, hurt, anger and she just shook her head and turned away from meeting his eyes. Two souls parted ways without any hope of meeting again in their life but they made a promise to themselves.

Veera Mv: I might leave this place and you Kanmani and I don't know if I will return but you will be the only girl in my life. I love you and wish I confessed my love to you. I m sorry. Wait for me. I will come back to you one day. Please..

Kanmani Mv: You might leave me and this place Veera and I hate you for this but you will be the only one for me and I will wait as many years it takes for you to come back. I love you Veera and I will love you forever. What if your mother take you away from here ? I m still here and I will revenge that Singaram. I will do everything Manickam uncle wanted you to do. Its my promise to him and myself.

Flashback ends.

A pat on her cheeks broke her trance and she saw Veera looking at her with concern but all her anger reminiscing the past took over and she swat his hand away. After years she felt the would was still fresh and hurting like it did the day she watched her uncle breathed his last.

Veera: What is your problem Kanmani ? You were crying so badly and I was trying to check on you.

Kanmani: You are my problem now shut up and drive the car and leave me in peace.

Veera cursed himself and started driving without bothering her anymore.

A/N:

Now that reason is revealed to you all lets see how Veera will get to know about the hidden secret of his father's death.

Also as said already I have planned to wrap this story by 45 chapters so chapters will be a little longer than usual and sequences will happen at quick pace.
