The Son Of Malon

{Taken from the letters written by Malon to Link before she became aware of his death}

My dearest Link,

It's been quiet out here lately, almost like they know something I don't. The horses, I mean, not the Hylians. Epona's been refusin' her feed a lot, y'know... I'm worried, love. Ever since you left she's been out-of-sorts. Maybe she's just missin' ya. Either way, remember I love you. Me an' the girls are all waitin' for you to come back

Malon

My love,

I'm worried, Link. Every night you're off fighting in that goddess-awful war with me left here on my own, lookin' after the horses. Epona's not doin' particularly well either, even with her little foal by her side. She's pining for ya again. I just want to know if you're gonna be home soon, cause if this war drags on any longer, I'm coming to join in! See you soon, Fairy Boy!

Mal xx

{Two months have passed. Malon now has a son, who is unnamed. She simply calls him Small Boy}

Link,

Bad news, my love. Epona passed last night, from lack of food. She wouldn't take anythin' from me. Only from you. She was cryin' out for ya, so I played her a song on ya ocarina. I'm glad ya left it here, its been invaluable to me an' our Small Boy. I can't thank you enough. On a slightly lighter note, we recieved a message this mornin' sayin' that because of yours and Wylld's efforts, the war is won! Thank you, love! Sending support from Lon Lon Ranch,

Mal xx

Fairy Boy,

Why ain't you talked to us? I must've sent at least five letters since the end o the war, and you ain't answered any of 'em. Are ya mad at me? D'you need to talk about it? Are ya gettin' enough sleep? Ahaha, you don't need to tell me that one! I know ya too well, ya old man! I hope to see you sometime soon, we're waiting, your son an' me.

Malon

Link my love,

Got another letter this mornin'. Was a casualty list, or something along those lines. Can't deny it, ma heart started to race when I scanned along the 'MIA' list. It also listed everyone who died, and I'm so glad your name wasn't on that one either. They marked ya down as... Unconfirmed? Are ya okay? I hope you're happy, wherever you are.

Mal xx

Dearest,

I'm scared, Link... He's ran away, our boy. Went in the dead of night. I checked the barn as well, and Epona's foal ain't there either. I can only hope he ran away of his own choice and he wasn't kidnapped. That boy is proper feral for only bein' one year old. Almost like a certain tight-wearing man I know... Wonder who that could be...

Malon

P.S Please come home soon xx

{Soon after, Malon receives Link's journal. She reads it thoroughly, and realisation dawns on her as to why he hasn't sent any kind of word back home.}

Addressed to the Hyrulean Army,

Why was I not told of ma own husband's death? I... I'm on ma knees in front of the Goddesses' Statues beggin' and pleadin' for it not to be true. Is it? Is he really gone? I can't believe it, and I was one of the luckier ones, according to the casualty list. In one measly week I've lost my horse, my son, my late horse's foal, and my husband, I... Can't take it. I'm going to the forest. I don't even care anymore if I get killed or assaulted or beaten or turned into a tree, I'm going into the Lost Woods. I'll find solace in Saria's Song.

Farewell, brave soldiers. Your fight never ends.

Malon Lon Lon

{Malon set off for the Lost Woods, determined to find her boy. On her way, she gets attacked viciously by some stray Ganondorf Supporting Gerudo and rounded into their ambush. She never saw the light of day again. As for her boy... Lost to time.}
