Chapter 19 - A
The second day of Fae's heat was almost dangerous. It started when he was asleep, and I woke up to a nurse wearing a face mask giving him a suppressant shot in the back of his neck. I could smell a faint and very sweet scent.
I looked at her and it took a second for me to register what she was doing with the shot. "Do I need to leave?" I asked groggily. Fae was asleep on top of me, with his arms wrapped around my neck and his head tucked against my collarbone. He only whined a little bit when the nurse gave him the shot; she actually pulled the skin up like how you can with cats, then stuck him with the needle to inject it. Like, she wrapped her whole hand around the back of his neck and just pulled the skin up. I didn't even know his skin did that. I didn't know this at the time, but the reason she had done that to put the suppressant there was because Elves actually had tiny organs in the back of their necks that released the heat pheromones, and I guess pulling the skin up like that opened the pores that the pheromones came out of and that's what she stuck the needle into.
"No, you'll be fine," she said. "The suppressant will take effect fast enough that his heat shouldn't affect you too much."
I nodded a little bit. "M'kay," I said. The nurse left the side of the bed and walked around the room doing things, but I didn't care or pay attention to what she was doing. I gently pulled Fae up further on me, wrapping my arms around his small body and laying my head on the pillows. I closed my eyes and fell asleep again.
When I woke up again two hours later, Lucielle and Barzethomirr were sitting next to the bed. Fae was awake, sitting up next to me and eating from his breakfast tray. He seemed pretty calm and relaxed, so I figured that Lucielle and Barzethomirr had been there for a bit already.
I sat up, yawning. Fae looked at me when I yawned, smiling at me and leaning his head on my shoulder. I smiled down at him, petting his head a little bit before looking at Lucielle and Barzethomirr.
"Morning Oz," Lucielle chuckled. Barzethomirr was actually asleep in his chair, so he didn't say anything.
"Hey," I said. "Why're you guys here?"
"Wanted to see how you two were doing, since you haven't left here for a while," she said.
'Oh my god you have no idea how fucking cute the Elf was when we got here.' She then said to me telepathically. 'He was all cuddled up against you and he was purring; he's so tiny when he's curled up it was the cutest thing I've ever seen.'
'You think I don't know how cute he is?' I said back to her mentally, smirking a bit.
Fae then tapped me and handed me the tray with the food he didn't want on it. He ate quite a bit of it, compared to what he normally ate, so I didn't ask him to eat more. "Thank you," I said, finishing the food for him. He cuddled into my arm once I had taken the tray, starting to purr and closing his eyes. His purring sounded like a cat almost, but a little bit denser of a sound.
I pet Fae's hair gently, feeling the urge to kiss his head, but not doing it. I sat and talked with Lucielle while Fae leaned on me, and eventually he had fallen asleep. Lucielle had filled me in on the investigation on the owner of The Palace.
They had found a trail, though it was a very small one. It had been the tiniest scent that a K-9 had found in a nearby city, but the scent was so faded that it must've been from several days ago. But now the police had an idea of what direction this guy had gone.
She also told me that they had gotten more information about the manager from the other four ex-slaves he had had. They called him 'the Beast', because of how rough he was with his slaves; and particularly Fae. None of them knew the Beast's actual name, they were never introduced to him, they were just taught to call him the Beast by other slaves. He had kept Fae as a private pet, so he was never rented out to other patrons or customers of the club, but the Beast had taken zero care of him.
One of the other ex-slaves had said that the Beast would keep Fae with him in his chambers for days at a time, without being fed or washed. They had said that the doorman was the one that had taken care of Fae, since the Beast didn't and Fae was always too tired or injured to take care of himself, and he was the only person there that Fae let touch him willingly.
The doorman had been the one to feed all of the slaves the Beast kept, but whenever he tried to feed Fae, either the Beast would stop him or Fae wouldn't eat it. They had figured out that Fae wasn't eating because his internal organs had been damaged, by "heavy pressure being applied to his stomach region". The person that said this had overheard the conversation, and had said that Fae usually didn't eat his food just because he was so exhausted or injured. All that they said he did when he was rarely in his cage was just sleep.
That was about the extent of the information about the Beast that had come in. The police hadn't found the Beast yet, Lucifer's demons hadn't yet, so that was about it.
Once Fae's heat had ended that day and Lucielle had left after filling me in, we had spent the day in his room. He didn't seem to want to leave, he just wanted to hang out with me in his room. Marie had come in from time to time to check on us, and brought in food during mealtimes, but she for the most part left us alone. I found out that Fae was really really good at drawing. Like, freakishly good. We spent several hours sitting on the floor while he watched cartoons and drew animals on a pad of paper.
I remembered what Leiner had said about Fae's ability to summon animals, so I guess it made sense that he was super talented with art. He drew these super realistic animals on the pad of paper, but he didn't do anything else with them. He didn't try to summon anything from them, he just drew them.
I made a note on my phone of the things that Fae liked, so that I knew. I wanted to ask Dr. Hannes about when Fae's birthday was, so that I could get him something. I wasn't sure if Fae even knew when it was, but he did know how old he was. I also just wanted to get him something; he had basically no belongings, only the blanket from the club and the clothes the center had given him.
He seemed to really like rabbits, he drew a lot of them. He also really liked cartoons, but he seemed to mostly enjoy the art of them. He never seemed to be engaged in them, he just stopped what he was doing a little bit and watched them for a second before continuing. A few times when no cartoons were on, I would play anime on my phone for him to watch. I watched a few of them, so I had subscriptions to a couple websites.
After spending a while drawing, Fae got tired again and set his crayons aside, then laid down and curled up with his head in my lap. I lifted my arms so that he could do this, smiling and then gently petting his hair. He purred softly as he drifted off, and I waited a few minutes before letting myself drift off as well.
