Super Human SF often refers to the alteration of a human's physical form. This can include anything from genetic alteration, to radiation enhancement creating super powers. This is common with the so called 'Super Hero' cliché. However in Super Human SF the victims are often seen to be questioning there alteration and sometimes even see themselves as monsters. Most commonly the genetic alteration for military purposes, creating a 'Super Soldier' is a popular plot and can lead to some incredible action. If the alteration is man-made, ethics are often involved as to whether it is worth messing with the natural world.

Accidental alteration can also occur. Sometimes this is seen as negative and is referred to as a 'Mutation'. This term is commonly used when some one receives a super human ability and does not embrace it. Super Human SF can also be used to classify super heroes into a genre, as they have super human abilities.
