| Prolougue: Last Night. |

My palms are sweaty, and I can't stop pulling at my clothes as I lift my head to gaze through the windshield that continues to get pelted by raindrops. I felt myself begin to fidget with my fingers, flinching slightly at the raw knuckles.

"What?" He grunted to my left, causing my head to snap in his direction. "What's wrong?" asked Dean, looking everywhere else at me.

"What's what?" I played dumb.

"You know very well what." Dean shot back, glaring over quickly before turning on his windshield wipers.

"Then why are you asking?" I smirked, earning an eye roll and a growl under his breath as I felt the car shift and begin to slow down, he slowly pulled over to the side of the road and twisted his wrist to shut off the engine. "What are you doing?"

Dean shifted in his seat to face me, causing my eyes to dart through the now soaked windshield. I took in the rumbling of the raindrops slamming on the top of the roof. The sound seemed to get louder as the silence hung over us like death itself.

"Dani," Dean's voice came through my ears like a brick through a window, very sudden and powerful. "we need to talk."

"About what?" I asked, not unclicking my seatbelt and crossing my arms.

"You know what..." Dean pushed, almost gently.

"...do I?" I shot back, avoiding his eyes.

"Listen," He cleared his throat, earning my gaze now. "I'm just going to ask you, alright? Straight and forward..."

I nodded quietly.

"...what was last night?" He asked, gesturing with his right hand, dangling it over the front seat.

I froze, feeling as if my jaw locked itself. There was a pressure and a tug on my heart as I forcefully ripped my eyes from his.

"Dani..." He spoke, gently. "...if you're not happy -"

"- I am." I yelped sharply, frowning at my lap. "Nick makes me happy, Dean."

"Then, what was -?" He started, only for me to interrupt him.

"Last night was nothing," I spoke heartlessly, ensuring my gaze collided with his.

Dean's eyes darkened at my words, and his face tightened. That same silence hung over us for a moment, before Dean's words broke it.

"It was...nothing?" He asked, turning back to the steering wheel and beaming down at the dashboard.

I frowned at his expression and my lies.

"Last night," I sighed, heavily attempting to speak through the knot that was forming in my throat. "was perfect, Dean."

Dean's face slightly lit up as he turned his head to face me.

"Everything was perfect," I found myself smiling through tears I didn't realize were falling off my chin until a few splashed onto my hands and lap.

"Dani..." Dean spoke softly again, sliding across the front seat to get closer to me.

"Everything was perfect," I repeated, attempting to swallow that damn knot. "the only thing that was wrong was - was..."

"...was?" asked Dean, gently pushing the topic and taking my chin in his hand so that I was facing him. "Was what?" He insisted, and I watched as his eyes darted from one of my eyes to the other and then flickered down to my lips.

"Everything was perfect," I whispered now, realizing how close we were. "the only thing that was wrong was everything."

Dean's eyes flickered into mine as he leaned forward a little more, and I found myself fighting every instinct, every nerve, every emotion shoving towards him and managed to peel myself out of his arms, out of the car, and into the rain...
