| Chapter 6: Lillith. |
I watched as the trees blurred past the backseat window, nothing but Sierra rested on my mind since the silence of the Impala had engulfed everyone. My eyes, hesitantly, pulled away from the window to realize Nick was invested in the book Bobby ensured I took.
I glanced to the front seat to see Sam had fallen asleep against the window and a sudden hot electricity shot through my veins as I looked up at the review mirror and Dean caught me looking at me. He just winked as his eyes pulled away from mine and back onto the road.
"So," Nick stated, clearing his throat, catching my attention. "this Hunter's occupation...is a whole culture?"
"Basically." I shrugged, taking the book back as he passed it back to me.
Nick nodded, and it looked as if he was genuinely trying to put things together. He stretched a little and draped his arm around my shoulders.
"I still don't understand why you didn't tell me before," Nick said, in a lower tone, catching Dean's eyes as he pulled me closer to him.
"It's a lot to take in," I started, looking over at him. "you didn't even believe me at first, you even said you thought I was crazy." My eyes pulled from his and went to the windshield.
"Yeah, well think about it from my perspective Dani," Nick elaborated, unwrapping his arm from my shoulders. "I grew up in a world where all of this was dreamed up, was fiction."
"Must be nice," muttered Dean, earning a nudge from Sam - who had woken up.
"Who the fuck asked you?" snapped Nick, causing my eyes to widen and grab his knee.
"Hey," Dean's voice barked in a way that I hadn't heard yet. "ease up Nicki - you don't want to do this."
"Can you guys just -" Sam growled, gesturing for both of them to calm down. "- Dean, pull up into this Hotel, we need a break from the car."
"I second that." I chimed, glaring over at Nick and Dean.
Dean did just what Sam requested and as the Impala hushed into the parking lot.
The four of us sat in silence for a moment before I patted the seat in front of me for Dean to let me out.
I rose out of the car, meeting Dean's eyes.
He seemed amused.
I growled under my breath and made my way around him and into the front office of the hotel. Sam followed, gesturing for Dean to behave.
"Dani, you alright?" came Sam's voice from behind me as he joined me at the front desk.
"I'm fine," I stated quickly, turning back to the overweight gentlemen taking my mom's credit card information. "two rooms."
"That'll be 500 hundred for the night." He grumbled, as my eyes widened.
"500?" I repeated as Sam interjected.
"Sir, what about one room?" Sam suggested as I looked at him in confusion. "For one night."
'That'd be 250." the man heaved as Sam pulled my mom's credit card away from the keyboard and replaced it with his own.
"We'll take it and put it on mine," Sam instructed as the man shrugged, and began to work on the computer for us. Sam's eyes went from the man to me and nodded at my confusion, "It's cheaper and less suspicious..." He grinned at the man as he realized the man heard him.
Sam gently pulled me away from the counter to get out of earshot.
"...I'll handle the other two, but at the very least - you'll get the bed tonight," Sam explained, glancing out of the window to the Impala, where the two seemed to be sitting in silence, annoyed at each other. "Listen," He sighed, turning from the window as the counterman passed him his credit card back with a single room key. "I don't know you, I don't know Nick - but I know my brother..."
"...okay." I nodded, crossing my arms across my chest as we moved outside the front office to be out of earshot of the man again.
"...he's always like this with women," Sam stated, glancing over at the Impala. "Don't take what he's saying, doing, or acting to heart...you seem like a good person - I just don't want you to get hurt, or lose what you have over something so temporary."
My eyes widened at his words, glancing over at the Impala as well. This conversation went another direction, and I couldn't help but feel a wave of embarrassment for even thinking there was anything at all between Dean and me. I sighed out loud, turning back to Sam, and nodded, "No, you're absolutely right."
"You're not mad?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
I shook my head hard. "No, you're right. You're trying to be a good brother -"
"- and. I hope a good friend?" Sam nudged playfully as I grinned up at him.
We gestured for the guys to start gathering things together to move the party to the room we booked for the night. Once Dean and Nick rose out of the Impala, I sighed out loud.
"You guys get settled, I'm going to grab us a table and order some drinks in there," I pushed, pointing over my shoulder and seeing Sam nod as I pushed the door open to the restaurant that was attached to the hotel. I walked into the faded bar and restaurant combo and started to make my way over to the bar. "Hi, do I need to wait to be seated or can I just -?"
"- Hi Honey!" Smiled the Bartender, turning from the mirror at the back of the bar. " - just pick anywhere, I'll send one of my girls over." He nodded, tipping his hat.
I nodded turned from the bar, slid past a few bikers, and found a cozy booth in the back corner. I slid into the booth and ensured my back was against the wall, and I could see the entire bar. Scanning the place, my eyes landed on a familiar set of eyes, a set of eyes that I didn't want to see for another 3 months.
"Hi, Rhett." Came a voice as I blinked and the being that those eyes belonged to was standing next to the table I was sitting at. "Mind if I sit?" I just stared, and she took it as an invitation, and placed herself across from me, glancing around the restaurant and then back at me. "How are you?"
"I didn't think I'd see you again until February," I stated, quietly as a random waitress walked by, placed two beers in between us, and then disappeared.
"I got you a drink, hope that's okay." She smiled, taking one of the bottles and downing the entire thing. "Are they here?"
"Is who here?" I asked, playing dumb.
"The Winchester Brothers." She hissed, setting the bottle down and glaring over the table at me.
"What do you think?" I shot back, as her brows raised.
"Listen, Danielle - Dani, can I call you Dani?" She asked, and I just continued to glare. "Dani, see - I thought about the deal we made and I think I want to change the terms -"
"- What the fuck do you mean?" I charged, leaning forward.
"- not your time limit." She assured, taking her acrylic black nails on the tabletop. "The Trade we talked about, you know..." When I paused, replaying the terms of our agreement in my head, she continued, "...Oh, I'll remind you. Your soul for your sister's - I give you 3 months to save your sister, and either I take you at the end of that time...or you give me Sierra."
I sat in silence.
"I think I changed my mind...." She smiled, brushing some hair out of her face. "...I'll take Sierra, your soul...or..."
I bit my lower lip, glancing over her shoulder as the front door opened, only to reveal it wasn't who I thought.
"...one of the Winchesters." She almost cued, grinning over the dirty table at my untouched beer. "Are you going to finish that?" She asked, pointing at the bottle, and when I didn't answer, she snatched it and downed it. "Those are the new terms, and I hope you figure out what's best."
I just sat there, silent. Watching as she picked up both bottles and started to walk away, only to turn back around to me slowly with another cunning smile.
"Also, it's rude if someone buys you a beer and you don't drink it." She smirked, kissing my head, only for me to jerk away from her and attempt to shove my elbow into her throat, but she grabbed my arm and shoved me further into the booth. " Don't get stupid Rhett, I'm rooting for you."
I glared, breathing heavily as she held out her hand for her to help me sit up, I glared at it and rose back upright on my own, which triggered her to glare down at me.
"Fuck you, Lilith." I hissed, earning a smile as she disappeared through the crowd. My eyes remained on her as three figures joined me in the booth.
"Who was that?" Asked Nick, draping his arm around my shoulders again. "A friend?" He turned to me and kissed my cheek.
"No," I said flatly, lowering my gaze - only to catch Dean's knowing ones looking from me to the exit.
