| Chapter 17: The Moon Rock. |
"Are you sure he's here?" I asked, glancing down at the newspaper as Dean sighed heavily into my steering wheel and nodded. I looked up at the flashing open neon sign and exchanged worried looks with Dean. "Alright, well if we're going to do this -" I started, pushing the door open and attempting to get out of the car, only to be jerked back into the car and slammed into Dean's lips. "- You have me, you don't have to keep trying."
"Yes i do." smirked Dean, mirroring me and we both shut my doors in unison and entered the bar with our 'serious' faces on . "Over there."
"That's the Pack leader?" I asked, going to step forward, but Dean grasped my thigh in mid step, causing me not only stop short, but flush red and beam over at him in a warning way. "I wouldn't do that."
"Do what?" He questioned, eyeing me then where his hand was. "Oh..."
"...tease me, its dangerous." I smirked, as he patted my head as he chuckled.
"Hang back babe, wait for my signal." He smiled, kissing my forehead and moving through the crowded bar and dropping into the booth with this so called Pack Leader.
I kept scanning the bar, slowly realizing that what were standing in wasn't a normal bar, it was a ware bar. Every single person in here, aside from myself and Dean, are wolves, even the bar tender, who keeps eyeing me suspicously.
Maybe its the fact I'm still standing at the exit door?
I pulled my gaze from the scowling bar tender and watched Dean and this 'pack leader' conversate, slowly making my way to a better position to watch for Dean's signal. As I did this, I realized in a moment of complete nonsense, that Dean had just called me 'babe.'
I felt myself flush red as I was, finally, approached by the bar tender.
"Can I get you something to drink?" He asked, eyeing me suspiciously, agian.
"A beer is fine." I dismissed as I attempted to look around him over at Dean and this pack leader, but realized he didn't move. "What?" I tilted my head.
"What kind?" He asked, not even blinking.
"A bud, I guess." I shrugged, not really caring - but attempted to look around him again, only to realize he was - still - not moving. "Do we have a fucking problem?"
"Yeah, we do." he growled back, stepping closer to me. "You're not one of us."
"No, I'm not." I chuckled, realizing he was getting pretty confrontational as some other wares around us started to get in on the glare mash. "I am someone, however, you don't want to mess with."
"Is that so?" asked another biker looking guy, stepping to the side of the bar tender, who had revealed he had a bat behind his back the entire time.
"For a few reasons," I sighed, feeling my hunter's confidence growing. "one; I'll kick every one of your asses." They all erupted in a fit of giggles as I began to count on my fingers. "two; I'll do all of that with one hand tied behind my back." I smirked, earning more giggles. "and third...oh, what's the third reason?"
I play pouted, glancing through the now gathering crowd to see Dean double taking in my direction, realizing I was in 'trouble.'
"Oh yeah..." I gasped, getting everyone's attention again as I revealed the Moon Rock, causing the entire bar to go silent. "...that's what I thought."
"Miss Rhett." called a deeper voice from behind the now stunned crowd, his voice caused them to immedately move out of my line of sight as I walked through the creaky foggy bar and stopped right at the edge of the booth that this man and Dean were sitting in. "I'd recognize that attitude anywhere."
I snarled in his direction, sliding the Moon Rock back into my pocket, but realized the entire bar was now going to be part of the conversation. Considering they were now all paying close attention to both myself and Dean.
"Have we met?" I asked, raising an eyebrow at the pathetic stature of the man sitting across from Dean.
"No," He chuckled, waving someone forward from behind me. "Three beers," He ordered, gesturing for me to sit, and I watched as Dean hesitantly flickered his eyes gaze between myself and this man before moving over to allow me to sit. "I am Boris, the Alpha of this pack, you know - the one you stole that from?"
I clutched the Moon Rock in my jacket as he spoke.
"We have never met, Miss Rhett, but you're well known through the pack - as is your sister." Boris explained, leaning back into the seat of the booth to let the bar tender bring some beer. "Mister Winchester here was telling me that you come to me with an exchange."
"An exchange?" I asked, looking from Boris to Dean who just took my thigh under the table. "An exchange," I nodded, immedately changing my tone. "Yes, If I can have your pack's help with a deal I've made, the Moon Rock is yours."
"Deal?" Boris raised an eyebrow, lighting a cigar and offering one to Dean, who hesitantly took it. "What kind of deal?"
'A crossroads one." I stated, earning an expression of shock from him.
"Dare I ask with whom?" He giggled, looking up from the ash trey in front of him.
"You might want to dare." muttered Dean, as Boris' eyes flickered between the two of us.
"My point is," I interjected, before anything else could be implied. "I need some sort of insurance if I'm going to get out of his deal."
"Okay, so what's the plan?" Boris asked, curiously.
"So, you're in?" I asked, as Boris chuckled.
"No, I need the details before we agree to anything." He smiled, and I watched as his eyes flickered to Dean for a few moments then back to me "Go on."
"The Moon Rock in exchange for my soul." I put plainly. "I'm not allowing this Demon to take my sister, Sam or Dean." Boris nodded, listening closely. "So that leaves my soul on the table, but if I offer the Moon Rock in exchange for me keeping my soul...maybe, she'll take it."
"And where does that put us?" Boris asked, peering at me through the cigar smoke.
"Well, If she accepts this deal, that would put you guys in a shitty position, right?" I continued, earning a small nodd from Boris. "but if she accepts it and doesn't have a chance to get the rock in the first place, and your pack tears her host apart...maybe we both walk away with waht we want?"
"Her host?" Boris repeated, looking between myself and the end of his cigar. "Whose, her?"
I sighed heavily, looking over at Dean, who finally loosened his grip on my thigh.
"I don't think you guys want to know..." I admitted over the table.
"...tell me who, or no consideration." Boris demanded and then chuckled before I could speak again. "Besides what's stopping us from killing the both of you and taking the Moon Rock for ourselves?"
"That's a good point," I admitted, feeling the pack close in on our table. "I would think the reason you can't do that is because I'll shatter this fucking rock quicker than any of you can shift."
Boris' smile faded as I pulled the Moon Rock out of my jacket and slammed it on the table, to hear an echo of gasps around us. Boris allowed his eyes to travel from mine down to the bloody crystal-like rock then returned his gaze to mine.
"Who is it?" He repeated, putting out his cigar now.
"Lillith." I spoke into the air that seemed to be completely void of anyone else in the bar for a moment. The realization that the Demon herself, the Demon of Demons was the one that may very well get the Moon Rock settled over the room. "If she were to get ahold of this," I stated, playing with the rock now. "that would really suck for you guys."
Boris glared at me.
Dean glared at him.
I felt a wave of that new heat come over me as Dean tightened his grip on my thigh again, earning a glance from me.
The silence was defeaning for the few moments it lingered.
"So how would this work?" asked Boris, glancing around the room.
"I offer Lillith the exchange, and give her a time and place to meet me." I started, looking over at Dean, who chimed in.
"Once we hae the location and time, you guys are the ones that are meeting her, and if you tear her apart - the Moon Rock is yours." Dean released my thigh and leaned back into the booth with a sigh. "Simple as that."
"Simple?" Boris chuckled, looking from Dean to myself. "Do you even understand what that is?" He pointed to the Rock.
"It holds the power to break your curse." I stated, matter-of-factly. "If Lillith got ahold of it, she would have complete control of your pack...your 'people' or 'wolves' whatever you guys use to refer to yourselves as a group or race."
Boris nodded, watching my fingers trace the rock.
As I noticed this, I pulled it back to me across the table and slid it back into my pocket.
"You don't get the rock until the deal is done." I stated, as Dean leaned back against the table and kept looking between myself and Boris.
"You killed my team." Boris barked.
"They took my sister." I barked back.
"She went willingly -" Boris snarled.
"- wait, what?" gasped Dean as I ignored his confusion.
"- she wouldn't have gone willingly if your team didn't threaten me." I shot back.
Boris glared at me, and I him.
"You can't bring them back." Boris frowned, looking down at the chipped table. "One of them was the Luna of the pack."
I felt my face drop at the sound of that. We had killed his mate, his wife...the pack's Luna.
I frowned down at the table as well, and then shifted a little in my seat.
"Tell you what," I said, catching Boris' attention and Dean's eyes. "If we were to -" I hesitated, but pushed on with air quotes. "- recruit a new team to replace the one we killed...would there be a deal?"
Boris' eyes flickered with amusement.
"We may not be able to replace your Luna, but we can restore your numbers." I elaborated a little further as Boris looked around the bar at his, more than curious, pack. "What do you say?"
Boris looked at me, as I outstreched my arm across the table.
*
"...we're going to need back up recruiting wares, so I guess we'll head back To Bobby's and pick up Sierra and Sam." I trailed off, taking off my jacket as the hotel door shut behind me.
"I don't think this is a good idea Dani," Dean's voice clammered through the room as he locked the door. "I'm all for outsmarting a Demon, even more - Lillith - but recruiting people to replace their team we killed?"
"What else was I supposed to say?" I asked, sitting down on the bed, pulling my leg up so I could unzip my boot from my knee down. I caught Dean's face, "What?"
"I don't know how I feel about giving them souls." Dean stated, watching me pull off my boot and unzip the other. I stood up and walked up to Dean.
"I mean, I don't like the idea either but it's either we work with them, or..." I trailed off, suddenly feeling a wave of embaressement come over me. "...or Lisa and Ben could be trouble." My gaze dropped and I moved away from Dean.
"What was that?" asked Dean, moving forward a little as I turned to face him.
"What is Lisa to you?" I finally questioned, eyeing him. "Because I swear to fuck - if she's more than just -"
"- she isn't." Dean spoke short, advancing on me from across the room, causing me to be pressed against the wall.
"But if she -?"
Dean cut me off by kissing me hard and heavy.
"- she isn't." He repeated breathlessly between kisses as he picked me up, allowing my legs to wrap around his waist, and we moved to the bed. "She is an old flame, but she isn't the flame I want."
I bit my lower lip as he nibbled on my neck, but he stopped suddenly and looked deep into my eyes, all serious very suddenly.
"I'm just nervous about this deal," He admitted, looking from one eye to the other. I watched his eyes flicker down to my lips, down to my chest and back up to my gaze. "I told you, I won't lose you."
"You won't." I whispered, taking his face in my hands only to release it and manage to sit up a little on my elbows and ever so gently, pressed my lips against his.
