| Chapter 10: On the Edge. |

The muffled gunshots rattled my head as I adjusted my stance and continued squeezing the trigger over and over again.

POP.

POP.

POP.

I felt my Glock click hard, indicating it was empty. Pulling the pair of shooting earmuffs off my head and turning to glare at Nick again.

"What?" I spoke sharply, not looking at me.

"What can I do to make it right?" He asked, moving to sand on the other side of the tiny table I was taking apart my Glock. "I'll do anything, Dani - I love you -"

"- Don't." I shot, slamming some pieces of my Glock down and glaring at him. "You should have remembered that little detail before you FUCKED my SISTER!"

Nick opened his mouth, then closed it.

I sighed out loud, pondering as I put my Glock back together. Once I finished, I slid it back into my belt against my back. I glared down at the tiny wooden table, and then my eyes - hesitantly - looked up into Nick's brown ones.

"Sierra needs to go home," I stated, moving from the firing range Bobby had set up in the back of his yard.

"Yeah," Nick agreed, following me back towards the house. "we all do."

"No." I shot, stopping short. "There is no we. I'm not going back."

"What?" Nick shouted, as I rolled my eyes and started to walk around him, but he stepped right into my way. "Dani..."

"...Danielle." I corrected, sharply. "Only people I give a fuck about call me Dani..."

"Danielle..." He frowned, attempting to take my face in his hands, only for me to slide my hands in between his, slamming them down and away from my face only for my leg to - instinctively - whip under him, making him land on his back in the dry dirt.  "...Fuck!"

"Don't fucking touch me," I growled, stepping over him as he scrambled to his feet.

"No, I'm not letting you do this." He shot, not even bothering to dust himself off before placing himself between myself and the house again. "You're not throwing all of this away over one mistake -"

"- One mistake?" I asked, stopping short again.

"One mistake." He said, counting on his fingers. "One time."

"Once?" I repeated, tilting my head, feeling that familiar anger begin to boil to the surface again. "Are you sure?"

"Yes." He stated, out of breath.

"So, how fucking blonde do you think I am?" I asked, calmly. "I'd truly be the fool to believe you now."

"Why?" he asked, still following me through the yard and up onto the porch. "Why would you be foolish...it's the truth -"

"- no it's not!" I shouted, slapping his hands off of me. "If it were the truth, you would have said something before I said I loved you - before we..." I paused, letting the implication linger. "...before I gave up everything just to be second choice."

Nick stood there, speechless - again.

"Take Sierra home," I said, feeling my vocal cords shake with anger.

"What about you?" He asked, stepping a little to his left as I put my hand on the doorknob.

"What about me?" I asked, rounding on him again. "My dad thinks I'm a failure, I don't have a job back there, nor a boyfriend," I smirked eyeing him. "this is who I am Nick, and you barely accepted that before I found out about you two -" I stated, trying to move into the house, but he caught me back the arm. "- Nick, let go of me -"

THUD!

My eyes went wide.

Nick's breath was knocked out of him as he attempted to stand himself back up.

"I think it's time you beat it, man." sighed Dean, looking up from Nick and glaring around the salvage yard. "You've been on her ass for days now, I think you've more than made your case on how horny and pathetic you are."

Nick's eyes hardened as he glanced at me before gritting through his teeth, "This has nothing to do with you, Dean." Nick hissed, pulling himself, and rubbed his neck slightly.

"As much as I would love for that to be fact," smirked Dean advancing on Nick and grabbing him by the shirt collar. "it's not."

"Whoa!" I gasped, stepping forward and placing my hand on his shoulder. "Dean, shit..."

"...It's alright Dani." He muttered over his shoulder as he watched Nick scramble to his feet.

"Where am I going to go, Dani?!" shouted Nick over Dean's shoulder, ignoring Dean completely.

"I don't care," I stated, strangely calm, earning a head turn from Dean - who wasn't removing his eyes from Nick. "Maybe home?"

Nick stood there, looking the most defeated I've ever seen him. I exhaled sharply as Dean turned from Nick and stepped up onto the porch, waving away my hand from the doorknob before pulling it open for me. I grinned a small grin in appreciation

"Dani! There you are, I was just -" Sierra came barreling down the stairs, only to stop short before the last two steps when she noticed Dean next to me. "- Hi Dean." She grinned, biting her lower lip and beginning to twirl her hair around her finger.

Dean nodded a little and shot me an uncomfortable expression before sliding in between us and disappearing into the kitchen. I wrinkled my brows after him as I turned to my sister, who was still staring after Dean.

"Chances?" She said, finally ripping her gaze away from Dean and fixing her hair in the mirror that hung beside the stairwell.

"What?" I wrinkled my brow at her this time.

"Chances with, you know -" Sierra looked at me in the mirror and gestured with a nod in Dean's direction. "- what are my chances, Dani? Jeez, you would think you didn't know me."

"That's because I don't," I stated, flat, shoving past her and making my way upstairs. I rolled my eyes at the sound of her footsteps racing up the stairs to follow me. "You know, I'm the little sister - I thought I would be the one not able to leave you."

"Dani, we need to talk about this." Sierra insisted, following me into the room Bobby insisted I keep as he kicked Nick out into a trailer he had on the side of the yard.

"No, we don't." I almost shouted, rounding on her as she pushed the door shut behind her. "You and Nick slept together, Sierra - there's nothing more to talk about -"

"- yes there is -"

"- No," I shouted this time. "There isn't. I gave up everything Sierra...everything for you and him." I explained, stepping forward a little. "You have no fucking clue what that means, or how deep your betrayal goes."

Sierra blinked back tears, exhaling as if she had been holding her breath the whole time.

"You need to go home." I sighed, turning my back to her. "Mom and Dad are worried."

"I'm not leaving without you." Sierra almost whimpered.

"Take this too." I shot, tossing her the Moon-rock, and watched as her eyes lit up at the sight of it. "You want to play sister now?"

Sierra frowned as she shoved the Moon-rock in her jacket as I changed out of the dusty jacket I wore while shooting into another and shaking off the dust. I shifted a little when I realized Sierra hadn't moved.

"Are we done?" I shot, attempting to shove past her, but she shoved back into the room.

"No, we're not. We're going to stay here and we're fixing this -" she started, only for Nick to come through the door in that very moment. This earned an eye roll from me as Sierra turned to him. "- Nick, fix this."

"What do you think I've been doing the last few days?" He shot, glaring at Sierra but his eyes softened when he looked at me. "Dani - Baby - listen, it didn't mean anything, you have to believe me."

I glared in silence as I watched my sister's face drop.

"I was drunk, I regretted it the next morning." Nick pushed further, causing my sister's face to drop lower and lower with every lie. "Sure, we came back together a few times, but it was just a fling - I should have told you...matter of fact, I shouldn't have done it in the first place - but I did and I can't take it back, but what I can do is change what happens next."

I blinked.

Sierra sniffed, earning Nick's attention. "Why are you crying?"

"It meant nothing to you?" She sniffed, as I watched tears drop off her chin.

"Well, while you two figure out how you feel about each other if you excuse me - I'm moving on -" I started out the door, only for Nick to slam it shut again. "- you sir have gotten pretty tense with your actions as of late."

"You need to hear me when I say this, Dani." He stated, glaring over at Sierra and then sighing at me. "I love you, not her. I felt more with you than I ever did with her. Sure, she was my first choice out of the two -"

"- nice save -" I grumbled, rolling my eyes.

"- but I saw you first." He said, taking my chin and pleading with his eyes.

I felt my knees weaken and that familiar hotness come over us, but I broke out of it and pulled the door open, while shoving him out of the way in the process, and started storming down the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Shouted Nick, after me as I slammed out of the front door.

"Dani!" Shouted Dean from under the landing Nick stood on.

I ignored all the calls shoved myself into my Challenger and glared up at the house. I slid my key into the ignition and allowed her to roar to life, I pulled around the area where I parked and headed towards the exit.

If anyone was going to have a say so with me - or figure out what my next move was - it was going to me, no one else. I stopped at the stop sign for a long five minutes. Finally alone, finally able to breathe and all I could do was slam my forehead against the steering wheel and scream, only to jump suddenly at my passenger door opening.

"Goddamnit Nic -!" I started, but was overwhelmingly pleased to see green eyes, not brown. "- Dean."

"Where are we going?" He asked with a small grin as I shifted the car in gear and pulled out of the driveway.
