04. You're The Worst

FOUR YOU'RE THE WORST

Helena didn't venture down to the Cut often, but in her defense, the situation absolutely called for it. Stomping down to John B's stupid shack of a house where she knew JJ would be, she smacked a mosquito off of her arm which only added to her bad mood. No, she wasn't even in a bad mood, she was just absolutely furious. Just as she expected, JJ and his three friends were sitting on the porch talking about something, but she didn't even care.

"You absolute fucking idiot!" she yelled as she approached JJ who stood and backed up as soon as he saw her coming. For a moment she turned to the group, saying with a smile, "Hey guys!"

"Hey, Helena," Kie greeted as if nothing was happening. "Tell Maude I say hi."

"I absolutely will," she exclaimed before turning back to JJ, "What the hell were you thinking bringing a gun to that party let alone firing it? Aiming it at someone's head? A Kook's head, JJ. I know I like my boys dumb but holy shit you have lowered the bar for stupid to the fucking floor."

"That doesn't even make sense," JJ muttered, "Also, uh, we're kind of in the middle of something."

"No, she can keep going," John B remarked with a shake of his head, "She's got a point."

"Aw, I never liked you, but thanks!" the girl said with a fake smile as she pushed JJ back gently enough not to make him fall but hard enough for him to stumble. "There were kids there, like, fucking middle schoolers! If you ever bring a gun near me again I will call the cops."

JJ sighed, placing both his hands on her shoulders as he forced her to stand away from him and also limited mobility in her arms so she couldn't push him again. "I was drunk and stupid, it won't happen again."

"Then prove it," Helena scoffed before turning to the group with a calm, resigned look on her face, "Anyway, what were you guys talking about? I miss ya guys, we never talk anymore."

"You literally just said you never liked me," John B narrowed his gaze at her, but she just crossed her arms and stood her ground.

"And I think I am valid in that," the girl said with a shrug as she went down to sit next to Kiara, "Hey, you'll catch me up, right? I wanna be included."

"You don't have your own friends?" Pope asked with a bored, confused tone in his voice.

Helena rolled her eyes, "You guys are so annoying, my friends are mad at me because I happen to be hooking up with the psychopath who brought a gun to a party."

"Dude," the blond boy exclaimed with a sigh.

The girl just shrugged, "What? It's not like it's a secret. Anyway, it's clear I'm not wanted here and I made my point so I will be getting out of your hair. I don't wanna listen to sad, poor people problems anyway."

John B chuckled, "It's funny you say that because that's kind of... literally what we were talking about. Peterkin is helping me out with some DCS stuff."

"Why would you feed into her like that, John B?" Pope asked, "She was just about to leave."

The boy shrugged, but Helena's face softened unexpectedly at this as she said, "My dad works with DCS sometimes since we get like... some domestic violence situations at Kook Academy... uh, I can see if I can get him to help you out."

"Really?" John B asked with a raised eyebrow, "You would help me?"

The girl scoffed, "Yeah, but don't start thinking I have a heart or anything, I'm just putting in a good word for you. Anyway, this was fun, not really, but I'll be going now. See y'all later! Much... much later, I hope."

She went to walk away from the group and back to her car since there was no way in hell she was going to walk down to the Cut. Not in these wedges, that's for sure. Still, just as she reached her Jeep, she heard footsteps running after her. Turning around, she saw JJ who was out of breath running up to where she was standing.

"The weed is fucking up your lungs, you were going like really slow," she chastised as she crossed her arms, waiting for him to catch his breath and say what he wanted to say. She totally had time for this, there was nothing for her to do today, but she was going to pretend she didn't. "What do you want?"

"To tell you that I'm sorry," JJ said through bated breath, standing up straight as he regained his composure, his eyes meeting hers, "I was drunk and it was stupid."

"Where did you get the gun? From your piece of shit dad?" she asked, her voice more cutting than she intended it to be, but it was clear she hadn't hurt his feelings too much by his unchanging expression. "You can't keep pulling shit like this JJ, my friends already hate me because of you. You don't even think about how your actions are affecting the others around you."

"Oh, I am so sorry I am tarnishing your perfect rich bitch reputation," JJ scoffed, stepping closer to her. She wasn't afraid of him, but she still stepped back and pressed her back against her car. "You know, would it kill you to have any feelings once in a while? Nice to see you sober, by the way, I was starting to think being an alcoholic was your only personality trait."

She shook her head, biting her lip as she avoided his eyes boring into her. With a biting tone, she said, "God, you are such an asshole."

"Takes one to know one," JJ remarked, "I'm pretty sure it's just you rubbing off on me since I can't even remember the last time you genuinely smiled or felt anything other than malice and anger."

"You don't know me," Helena seethed, even though deep down she knew JJ was right. She would rather stand her ground and be wrong than cave to his words. "Keep this shit up and you won't see me again."

"Please, we both know you're always gonna come crawling back to me," the boy said with an arrogant chuckle as he stepped closer to her. She would be lying if she said she wasn't the least bit turned on right now, but of course, there was no way she would be admitting that to JJ.

Reaching forward, her manicured nails gripped JJ's chin as she got in his face, saying, "Oh, please, you are nothing to me, JJ."

She didn't know who leaned in first. It was probably her, but Helena was never going to admit that. All that mattered was that a hand on her waist shoved her against the jeep as JJ pressed his lips to hers. Her hands moved from his chin to entangle in his slightly overgrown blond hair she loved so much. Once again, though, never admitting that. His other hand was cupping her face as he managed to be gentle yet rushed at the same time. It had been a while since they had done this since most of the time they crossed paths they were both under the influence and this honestly felt like coming home after a long day because part of her had absolutely missed this. She didn't like being angry at JJ, but it did cause a fantastic makeout session.

After a while, she shoved him off of her as both of them probably needed to breathe. She reached forward and wiped her lipstick off of his mouth while biting back a small smile.

"Don't do that again," Helena scoffed, but she was lying through her teeth, "I'm still mad at you."

"And I'm still mad at you," JJ reasoned with a shrug as he fixed her hair that had gotten out of place. "You cut your hair again."

"You know how hot I get when I leave it long in the summer," Helena said with a shrug as she ran her hands through his hair in a half-assed effort to fix it, "You should get a haircut soon, need me to cut it for you?"

JJ rolled his eyes, "You always cut it too short."

"That's the point," she said with a laugh, "So you grow into it and get a nice length for a while. Sheesh."

"You're the worst," the boy shook his head, but if she tried she could see a smile forming on his face. "I need to get back. Don't pull dumb shit like this again."

"You should be telling yourself that," she called back as he began to look away. Sighing, she brushed herself off and got into the drivers' seat.

God, JJ Maybanks drove her fucking insane.

it's been a HOT second since I updated this but in my defense I wanted to finish Psycho first which I DID woohoo so now I'll be updating this story hopefully more frequently!
