Female Anatomy

Hey! So, in this section, I will be discussing the female anatomy and how it works and how it pertains to sex and just a few general facts about it.

Also, please be mature when commenting. It's nice to have funny comments once in a while, but please be mature overall. I don't need comments that sound like they're coming from a 7-year-old :)

To start things off, I'd like to talk about the vulva. Yes, hitting things off right at the bat because I have no idea how to transition things smoothly.

The vulva is a composite of a series of holes and layers.

This is what the vulva looks like when you have your legs spread open.

When you open your legs, you'll see a bunch of skin surrounding a bunch of muscly-looking tissue. This skin is called the clitoral hood. When you push open this layer of skin to the side, you will see what looks like a small nub or a bean. This is called the clit. (i.e. clitoral hood)

The clit is an organ solely there to serve you for pleasure purposes. That's it. Females literally have a little nub just for pleasure. It's filled with thousands of nerve endings, and it's actually where most pleasure occurs when having sex.

There's actually not a lot of nerve endings in the vaginal canal itself, so it's rare for a female to orgasm or reach a ton of pleasure just from attending to the vagina itself. (It's possible, just takes a lot of work lol. At least, from what I've experienced & from gathering opinions from other women.)

But I'll get to all of the details about pleasure with the clitoris later.

Anyway, under the clitoris, there lies the urethral opening, aka your pee hole. The bladder is connected to this hole. It is just about impossible to stick something up there besides a thin tube (like a catheter). So please, for the love of God, do not go talking about sticking a penis up the wrong hole and not be talking about the anus. I've seen way too many fics doing that.

Though, the right hole is located directly under that. This is where the penis goes. Wowwww. This is called the vagina, cunt, pussy, taco, box, etc, whatever else you wanna call it. This is where you will see a lot of the "folds" or "lips" which protect the vagina from harmful bacteria or etc. Those lips are called labials (labia for singular noun).

And of course, under that, you have the anus. Or the butthole. Your poop hole. Oddly enough, the anus is separated but a thin wall from your vagina. So, if you were going to do a bit of exploring, then when finding your vagina, you could feel further down and find that wall, and then boom, there's the anus. It's weird. But idk thought you should know.

But now that you know the makeup of the vulva, let's talk about the reproductive system! Yay!

So, there are a bunch of girls who are taught in sex ed that this is what the vagina looks like:

But now you know that this is wrong! It's not just the vagina! Wow! Amazing what male-led sex ed classes are talking about.

(Sex ed classes never teach what the vulva looks like, they just show a photo of the reproductive system and call it a vagina. They do this so that way they can prevent teen pregnancy and keep females from exploring themselves cause it's considered "gross" or "impure". But I'm not here to rant about the school sex education system.)

Here's a more fancy image if you're interested in the more complexity of it:

But as we've mentioned before, the vagina is the point where penetration occurs. But it's not the only thing that the vagina is useful for.

The vagina canal is simply a transport for the sperm and the eggs when flushing out blood from your period, discharge, or, an actual child.

The vagina canal contains the hymen, which is a very thin skin-like tissue that can be broken through penetration which may cause little to no pain. If it hurts a lot, please ask your partner to stop and pull out. The breaking of the hymen can often be referred to, "popping the cherry,". Even so, when having sex, your hymen won't necessarily even break.

Fun fact: the hymen can be broken not just through sex! In fact, it can be broken in simple tasks (might not be that noticeable but you'll most likely just feel like a sharp pinch or something), such as: doing the splits, inserting a tampon, sitting down on a bicycle, doing high kicks, and several other vigorous activities.

Unfortunately, a lot of parents take their daughters to the gynecologist (a doctor for the vagina) and ask to see if their hymen has been ripped to see if their child has been having sex, when in reality, they could be a virgin and have it ripped without them even knowing.

Anyway, further than the hymen lies the cervix. This is a canal for a child. It is closed all of the time, except when a child is being pushed out. This cannot be penetrated (when I say this, this means something cannot go through it).

Beyond that, lies the uterus! The uterus is also known as the womb, where the baby grows and lies until ready for release.

For the baby to reach the uterus, it must go through the process of... Well...? Fertilization? I dunno how else to put it lol.

In the process of fertilization, when the male ejaculates (or cums) into the vagina, the sperm will travel to the fallopian tubes to meet the egg that's already sitting there.

The egg is released by the ovary, which travels to the fallopian tube and waits there for about 24 hours to meet one, singular sperm. When it does, this process is called conception. During this stage, the uterus walls are already thickening up to prepare for the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterus wall (which occurs after about 14 days. This process is called implantation).

Then boom! After about a month, a baby will start to begin to grow within the belly.

Now, I think that's the extent of pregnancy I'll talk about in this chapter. I'll probably elaborate on it more further on.

But the opposite of pregnancy is the period or menstruation.

Your first period happens usually when you're about 12-14 years old.

But before that, you'll start to experience discharge! Discharge is a white or clear fluid (sometimes different colors, depends on your diet, hygiene, getting close to your period, or possible infections) that comes from your cervix and is flushed out through your vagina.

Discharge is usually that white stuff you see in your underwear or when you're wiping and you see a string of that stuff on your toilet paper or even if it gets on to your hand.

It's nothing to get creeped out by (unless it's different colors! If you're beginning to see that it's abnormal, contact a doctor!). It just means that your vagina is cleaning itself. It gets rid of all the bacteria and flushed it out into that fluid form.

I remember when I saw that stuff I used to think, " Is this cum?!" Cause I saw fanfiction describing cum as "white liquids" so I panicked and assumed lol.

ANYWAY

Don't get freaked out by discharge. Everything is fine. (Fun fact: Discharge is very acidic, so it bleaches your underwear!)

And please, for the love of God, don't wash the inside of your vagina!!! Especially with flowery stuff! It will mess with your pH balance and cause infections to happen! But I'll get into vaginal self-care & hygiene later.

So, after you begin seeing discharge, then you know that the next sign of ✨womanhood✨ is your period.

Which, again, occurs for the first time when you're 12-14 years old. But if it's later that's perfectly normal, or even earlier. It all depends on the person. Everyone is built differently! (But if you're concerned about if just ask a doctor.)

When you menstruate or bleed, your body is discarding the monthly buildup of the lining of your uterus. Remember when we said that the walls of the uterus thicken up during fertilization?

That's exactly what's happening. The egg moves from the fallopian tube and attaches itself to the wall thinking that a sperm has already fertilized it, but when it realizes it hasn't been fertilized, it basically flushes itself out with the new useless wall tissue that's been sitting there for a month. So all of that gunk is being pushed out through your cervix and then through the vaginal canal which is why it feels so crampy and gross.

But! Make sure you're drinking tons and tons of water to keep yourself hydrated during this time because you're losing a lot of fluid! (Hydration also helps with bloatedness & period cramps!)

But I think that's it! I think I hit all of the technical stuff about the female anatomy in this chapter. Let me know if I missed anything!

In the next chapter, I'm going to explore on what you (or a partner) can do to ensure sex happens safely and pleasurably.

And I'll be giving tips on what to include and what not include when writing pleasurable smut for women.
