Part Four
Lemme start this by warning you of something really important.
Catherine Looselip is a Catholic teenage girl living in New York. She bought a cartoon candy and a big blue Teddy Bear with a promiscuously soft tender belly.
Catherine Looselip is from a foster home. Her biological parents died in Ukrainian war in the 50s leaving her with her elder sister Margaret.
As luck would have it, Margaret had dropped out of high school to pursue a career in nursing but due to the intensive war, she later joined an orphanage as a caretaker.
This position put Margaret in a huge responsibility of managing daily affairs at the care home as well as overseeing the transfer of children from one family to another.
Our young Catherine was barely eleven when she was moved in to her very first foster home. Margaret oversaw the whole operation, and being the elder sister, made sure the family was the best for young Catherine.
Two years passed, and Margaret was still a caretaker at her old orphanage. Catherine had grown into a rather sturdy and strong young lady.
Her teeth gaps had filled giving one the impression that she had a dentist by the minute who oversaw to her health.
Perhaps that can be explained away by her foster father's being a retired dentist himself, but that destroys the charm of it.
Catherine had a liking for beer which on the surface seemed totally dislikable for a generic observer, who having seen her come from a strongly religious background would be astounded in that secret indulgence that had overcome such a young girl.
To not overbear you with details, the story encompasses two themes, which, when explored deeply incorporate the belief in humanity.
Of these themes I'll explore in a minute, but just to be clear, although I expedite substance abuse in teenagers in this story, I in no way support it, in fact, I try my level best, to advocate for abstainance as deemed necessary.
The story questions self belief and the illusion of self. In essence , what really is the self? These two themes are the corner stone on which the whole story stands.
If one theme were to be removed, the whole plot collapses, and with it, the interest of a savvy reader.
Though simple at the outset, trust me, it gets deeper.
