Chapter 6
My phone lights up showing that someone is calling me. Again. I answer.
"Chill!" I speak into the phone first. "You text me 3 things in a row then call me. I mean... how did you even get my number?"
"I have my ways." I can almost see the smug look on his face just by his voice.
"What do you want?" I ask impatiently, biting down the huff I want to express.
"Didn't you read my texts?"
As a matter of fact, I didn't.
I look at my recent texts.
It's Andrew
How are you doing?
I need to ask you something.
The texts read, all written at the same time.
"Hello? Are you still there?" he asks through the phone.
"Yep, I'm here," I answer, "What do you need to ask?"
He sighs before speaking," Well...Um.. I was.." he speaks slowly. Almost sounding...Nervous? - No that can't be. "I was...," I think I heard a deep breath coming from him, maybe? " I was wondering.." Then the call is disconnected.
"What the?"
I tap the screen.
Nothing's wrong with my phone. Maybe his battery died? Maybe he disconnected it on purpose? No, I hope not. It's okay. Maybe... he was too nervous? Or...the first one...his battery died. Ya..That's it.
OMG! What is wrong with me? I'm obsessing over a boy! Whom. I. hate! He didn't even know I existed till today.
I rest my head on my pillow and groan at my thoughts. So annoying and infuriating thoughts can be. And then, after hearing the thoughts in my head again, I chuckle, realizing how ridiculous they sound.
I sit back up.
"I'm just going crazy," I reassure myself, bouncing up with a shrug of my shoulder.
My dismissiveness leads me off my bed, out of my room and to the bathroom.
The bathroom is the smallest in the house.
My mother has the biggest one, with a big walk-in closet in it and a nice hot tub. In comparison to her bathroom, everything in this bathroom is so much smaller, with its small mirror to the little sink underneath it, with probably the smallest shower and even tinier toilet.
I strip down naked and enter my shower, deciding it's best to cool down, let this day just wash away.
The water is freezing.
I lean against the wall, trying to get away from the cold water that's pouring down on me. Cold water is probably not the best, so I need a little break from it before I can get completely comfortable with it.
"BANG BANG" two loud thumps that scare me for a moment, opening my eyes wide in annoyance when I realize it's someone at the door, interrupting me from my momentary peace.
"Uhh! When can I have peace and quiet?!" I groan and yell at the same time.
"When you open the door!!!" My brother yells through the door.
"I'm taking a shower!" I yell back.
"So...?" He asks.
I turn off the shower and wrap a towel around my body before cracking the door open.
"What?" I ask harshly.
He looks behind me, at the shower, maneuvering his head to the side to see in between the crack of my body and the door. And then he looks behind him, making me wonder what's happening.
"What's going on?" I voice my thoughts.
He looks back at me, almost forgetting that he was speaking to me. He looks behind him again, making his blondish-brown hair wave once more.
"Can I come in?" He asks, his voice small and innocent.
"What? Why?" I give him a confused look.
"Oh.. right." He chuckles at himself, as if realizing something.
I'm really confused.
"Can I come in?" He asks again, ignoring my question with his dismissive smile.
My face goes into complete confusion, scrunching my eyebrows down, almost knitting together, I shake my head, trying to comprehend his request.
Before I can say 'what' again, he looks behind him and then back to me, making a puppy face.
"Uhh," I groan, "Fine."
I huff back into the bathroom as he follows me in. I grab my clothes off the toilet and turn around to leave.
"Where are you going?" My brother asks, his eyes flashing with worry, his head zapping back towards me with such force it scares me but yet again confuses me which just gets me frustrated.
"My room," I inform, deciding to just tell him matter of factly with the roll of the eye.
"Oh...okay." He then also turns around to leave the bathroom.
"Where are you going? I thought you had to use the bathroom?" I ask.
"NO! I had to run away from the monsters in my room," he says, giving me a cute mad baby look, reminding me of when we used to hang out more. Now that he's ten, he's found some friends of his own and we haven't hung out as much.
I shake my head, my frustration from before evaporating as I now realize why he was acting so weird and just watch as he huffs off to his room.
I chuckle at my brother's cute ways.
Reentering my room once more, chuckling still, I look down at the clothes in my hand, a smile on my face as I recall me and my brother's encounter.
He's so cute!
It's nice to have a moment with him, not that we never hang out, but it's usually always a serious one, never anything just for fun. I always had to carry the responsibility of watching over my brother after my parents divorced, so each time I could get a moment alone, I wouldn't want to be at home and take care of him anymore.
Before I can get all sentimental with my past memories, I look back up to find Sally in my room, causing me to jump backwards in my spot.
I gasp and calm down with a sigh as I realize it's just her, exhausted as I move to my dresser.
It's normal to see her just pop out of nowhere in my room, but still, it scared me.
"What do you want?" I ask as I pick out my clothes, putting on my underwear.
"Nothing," she answers, sighing dreamily as if she hadn't just witnessed my mini panic.
Sally usually enters my room by my window, we have this 'secret way'. Since we were young, we thought we were so clever naming it the secret way when really it was just climbing up the one tree that led to my room.
Sally is staring at herself in my mirror, putting random things on herself as she finds stuff in my desk drawer.
"Do you think I'm pretty?" she asks as she looks at herself in the mirror.
"Duh," I say, without even looking at her.
"You didn't even look at me," she pouts, turning around to stare at me.
"Because... I don't have to look at you to tell you that, you just are," I say, turning around to face my dresser that takes up most of the left wall.
"But, what if we grow apart... And one day I come back... And I ask you this same question while you are looking away. You say 'oh, you're so pretty' but then you look at me and see zits all over me and I have big monster legs?"
"Well, then, I would laugh," I say, nodding my head, agreeing with my statement.
She scolds me and throws a pillow at me. The pillow bounces off my head back to the bed, which makes me laugh even more. Sally glares at me with her pouty lips as she tries to grab the pillow but I grab it first and throw it to her.
I do this all the while holding the towel around my body, being a woman makes you become an expert at hiding your body.
Her glare deepens as she looks at me, squinting her eyes in concentration before...
"Ahh!" She yells as my pillow hits her right on the butt, breaking her concentrated glare. I just threw the pillow!!!
"50 points!" I cheer, making up a random score.
She growls but I just shake off her childish behavior and turn around.
Thinking this little game is over, I go back to my dresser, concentrating on getting dressed, but then I feel her fingers grab around my waist.
"Ahh," I yell as Sally tries to pick me up.
I push her away and she falls on her butt.
I start laughing so much, I can't even keep my balance. Watching her below me with a scowl on her face, that tries to cover up her smile, it just makes my laughter grow.
Sally uses her legs to trip me and I don't even care if that caused me to fall onto the bed. Our mini war seems to have ended because she jumps on the bed too, and now I'm not the only one bursting into laughter.
When we finally finish laughing, I get up to finally put my clothes on.
I shuffle through my shirts and pants.
"Where are we going?" I ask, knowing that each time she comes over she has a plan to do something.
"Ice Cream," she answers. "Duh,"
"Cozy?" I ask as I grab my minnie mouse sweater, showcasing it to her,"Or..Sexy?" I suggest as I grab only my bra, showing it to her with a smirk.
"What the!" Sally exclaims.
"Kidding!"
I put on my minnie mouse sweater and black jeans.
"Can I put something of yours?" she asks, longing in her eyes as she grazes the edges of my hanged clothes.
I look her up and down, surprised that she'd want to wear any of my clothes.
She's wearing a yellow tank top that shows off her boobs in the most 'I'm single but you can't have me' kind of way.
"Seriously?" I ask, "You look perfect in your blue jeans," I tell her, giving her another scan over, looking at her long legs before I look away again.
"Fine," She answers.
Bling...
I hear my phone ring.
Sally seemed to have heard it too and grabbed it off the desk, handing it over to me.
It's Andrew.
Shit.
If Sally sees this...
"What's wrong?"
My face must've showcased my worried state because now she makes the same reaction, growing worried with me, even though she doesn't know the reason behind it.
"Oh nothing," I answer, smiling while I put my phone in my back pocket.
