Severus waited for you patiently in his class, tapping his fingers on the table dramatically as he realised you were late to your extra lesson. A sigh escaped his lips and he shook his head, standing up from his chair.
You were never late.
The thought of you being so punctual was running through his head. He wondered why did you come late to your extra lesson with him today. There must be something that kept you preoccupied.
Did you went to see someone?
He frowned, thinking who could it be. He winced slightly when he thought that maybe you were on a date. That was why you were late to his class. Suddenly, he was annoyed and angry.
His annoyance and anger were deceased when he heard knocks on his door. The door was cracked open and you walked in. Severus pressed his lips into a thin line and walked over to you.
"You're late, Ms L/N."
His voice was cold and stern, using your last name as if your classmates were still there, watching both of you. Severus always called you Y/N during your extra lessons, but you seemed to be unperturbed by his demeanor.
"I'm— I'm sorry, Professor."
Your voice was small, and Severus swore he heard the shaking in your voice. Surely, it was not because of him.
He eyed you carefully. You had your head down, not even looking up at him with a big smile on your face like you always did. Your hands were fiddling with the hem of your shirt, like you were trying to hide something from him.
"Y/N, do you have something to tell me?"
He asked softly, and he was shocked at how soft he sounded himself. Severus slowly realised he had a soft spot for you and there was no denying it.
"I'm sorry..."
You whimpered, and it broke the Potions Master's heart. He quickly put his hands on your shoulders, silently pleading you to look at him. When you finally did, Severus was worried.
Your eyes were red and puffy like you had been crying for hours. There was a frown on your beautiful face instead of your enchanting smile that had him smitten every time.
"Were you crying? Who did this to you?"
He did not mean to raise his voice but he was concerned with your well-being. You broke into tears and your body was trembling in his arms. Severus let you cried into his chest while he rubbed your back comfortingly, not knowing what to do.
Your heart-wrenching sobs reached his ears and it shattered his heart into tiny little pieces. It was hard to see you sad, you were always like a walking ray of sunshine. Whenever you walked into a room, the room would light up and so was his life when you first came.
"It's alright, Y/N. Everything is fine."
He whispered softly, tried to convince you to stop crying. When you did not stop your tears, Severus was scared. He was scared because he did not know how to help you. You were broken, but he hoped he could fix you.
"Come on, love."
The nickname slipped out of his mouth before he could stop it, but you did not seem to notice. He carried you in his arms, sitting in his chair with you in his lap.
Honestly, Severus did not know how to comfort you but when you curled up against him, he knew he was doing it right.
"I'm sorry. I should've gone back to my room instead of crying here."
You apologised, wiping your tears but you did not look at him. Severus wrapped his strong arms around you, and you felt safe and protected.
"What happened?"
He asked, careful not to sound forceful, as if he was afraid that you might break like a glass. You breathed sharply and looked at him.
"I'm a disappoinment, Severus."
The words rolled out of your tongue bitterly, ripping your heart out of your chest. You did not know that your words were affecting the professor too. His eyes widen and he shook his head vigorously.
"Who gave you that idea? You're the best in everything you do, Y/N."
You sniffed and chuckled half-heartedly, tearing your gaze from him. If you were not sad, you would be nervous to be sitting in his lap and being so close to him that you could feel him breathing. But right now, your mind was so far away that you could not think about anything else but how awful you were.
"I know I'm a disappoinment. I just know."
You whispered, hurt was laced in your voice and it was impossible for anyone not to notice it.
"My parents owled me today. I thought they were going to ask me about my progress here. I was ready and excited to tell them about the excellent grades that I got!"
For a moment, you turned cheerful but your joy quickly died down. You smiled sadly and shrugged your shoulders.
"But they didn't care. They were just... They told me how my cousin was sorted into Slytherin as if I didn't know already."
You muttered, venom was dripping from your voice.
"He is in first year, by the way. A proud Slytherin, just like everyone else in my pureblood family."
You spat, clearly raging at the fact that you were discriminated just because of you were in Ravenclaw.
You came from a prestigious pureblood family, and you were expected to be sorted into Slytherin just like everyone else. However, your written fate sent you into Ravenclaw and you had been for many years now considering that you were in your final year.
"You know what else they said?"
Your voice cracked, and Severus never took his eyes off you. He was listening, trying to understand the pain of life that you were living in.
"They regretted me being in Ravenclaw. My parents said they do not care if I excell in my studies because I'm already a disappointment for them..."
You trailed off, tears started to well in your eyes. You could feel a sob growing in your chest, but you did not want to cry again. You held back your sobs and shook your head weakly.
"Can you believe it? My parents are calling me a disappointment. I'm in my final year, Severus! I've been enduring this pain for years and I— I thought they would stop. But they will never stop taunting me!"
You said out of anger and sadness, your breath was getting heavy and tears began to pour out of your eyes.
"You are not a disappointment."
Severus started, his voice was signalling you that he allowed no arguments to be made. You looked at him with your teary eyes, looking as innocent as ever and Severus was tempted to face you parents who broke your heart so cruelly.
"The whole school knows that you are the best, Slytherin or not. Do not let your family's imprudent judgement ruin you."
He put a hand on the side of your face, and you leaned in for comfort— Making him smile softly.
"Hold on, Y/N. Just for a few months more here. Then you're entitled to create your own future. You'll do great, no matter what your family thinks."
He soothed you with his words, and you smiled. Your heart fluttered when you realised Severus Snape was holding you, comforting you in his arms. Never once did you think you would be in this position, thinking that your professor would never look at your way. But now you were sitting in his lap.
"Do you really think I can do that? I can succeed without my parents's approval?"
"You can do anything you want."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Y/N. And I'll be here to to support your decisions, knowing that you're good at making them on your own. Please hold on, at least for me."
"I don't want to be a nuisance to you, Severus."
"You're not. You're just... Special."
You sighed in content, realising that Severus would always got your back. You were special to him. You smiled and tilted your head a bit.
"My parents would be delighted to know that their daughter is sitting in the Head of Slytherin's lap."
You said, raising your eyebrows at him. Severus seemed to just realise that he was still holding you in his arms and his face flushed.
"I— I apologize. You were crying. I didn't know how to—"
You laughed, and Severus stopped talking. You could not believe that Professor Snape was stuttering because of you. Upon hearing your laughs, Severus smiled.
"If I'm not mistaken, I heard you called me 'love'. Did you?"
You asked, a teasing smile was dancing on your lips. Severus's mind raced, trying to recall his doing. When he remembered that he did call you with the nickname, he smirked.
"I believe I did. Why?"
"I liked it. Can you do it again?"
Severus never thought his heart would be stolen by a student. But you were not just a student to him, you were special. That was how you managed to make your way into his cold heart.
"Of course, love."
He obliged, his voice sent shivers through your spine in a good way. You grinned and your eyes were twinkling in a way that Severus had never seen before.
"I think I love you."
You blurted out, taking him by surprise. Why else you would take extra lessons with him? You were an excellent student, you did not need extra lessons but you still took it. He knew he did not need to teach you, but he knew he needed to see you everyday.
What else could it be other than love that was blooming in his heart and your heart?
"Do you think your parents are going to like me?"
He replied, smirking playfully as he pulled you closer into his arms. You chuckled and shook your head.
"Who cares? You said it yourself, I can do anything I want."
You said confidently, grinning from ear to ear. Severus planted a loving kiss on your forehead and nodded.
"I love you too."
