• Ghost Of You •
"Y/N, where are you, my love?"
Severus walked into his office to find you. He had to spend his day teaching those students that clearly did not want to be taught, and now he wanted nothing more than to be with you.
"Y/N, darling, please do not hide."
He was tired and he wanted to see that sweet smile of yours. He heard your giggle and he quickly saw you.
"Hi, Severus."
You greeted him as soon as he saw you. He sighed happily and a smile creeped on his face— You were the only person who was worthy of his smiles and laughter. The burden on his shoulders lifted up a bit when he met you. You always managed to make him feel calm and protected, as if nothing in the world could break him when you were there.
"Hi, love. Oh I've been looking for you everywhere."
He said, a sigh of content escaping his lips. You chuckled and watched as he plopped down in his chair. You leaned against the wall, smiling as you looked at him.
"How was your day?"
You asked, your smile had never left your face. He rolled his eyes and let out an frustrated groan. Just by his gestures, you knew he had a bad day.
"I just want to see you. You keep me sane, Y/N."
He chuckled heartily, grateful for every second of his life that he got to spend with you, loving you and being loved by you. You shrugged and was going to say something but stopped when you heard someone was coming to his office.
"Severus!"
Minerva boomed as she walked into the Potions Master's office. Severus groaned and shook his head, not liking the idea that the older professor was there with him.
"What do you want?"
He hissed. Severus was not trying to be rude, but he hated it when his moments with you were interrupted. Minerva looked around and noticed that Severus was alone there in the office, like usual, isolating himself from others. It had been going on for so long that it shattered her old heart.
"You need to go out sometimes, Severus. You can't just keep sitting here alone. It doesn't help you."
She advised, clearly she was getting worried about the professor. Severus stood up from his chair and looked at you before looking back at McGonagall.
"I'm not alone, Minerva. And I don't need help."
He warned. Minerva shook his head in disagreement. She couldn't stand any of this anymore. The pain and agony that had been woven in Severus's heart, she could not just let it be.
"I love to be here in my office. It is my comfort and being with the love of my life, Y/N is—"
"Severus, stop!"
She yelled. Severus was taken aback, but he kept his face straight. He won't let Minerva got under his skin. He turned to look at you and you smiled, melting his cold heart.
"She's not here with us, Severus Snape. Face it!"
Minerva felt the agony of losing you as well— such a young and beautiful professor that life had been taken away from you far too soon, but she knew Severus was far worse than her. Severus has been talking to you, while you weren't even there.
"Minerva, what are you talking about?"
Severus raised his eyebrows. His anger was bubbling inside his chest. How dare McGonagall said something like that? And she said those words when you were there. You were always there with him. You had never left.
"Y/N is dead. She's gone, Severus."
Minerva has been watching Severus for months now. She had enough. She needed to wake him up from his imaginary dreams about you. You were gone and Severus had to accept it.
Severus's eyes grew wide as the words rolled out of his colleague's tongue. He shook his head and glanced at you. You weren't smiling at him. The enchanting smile that was emblazoned on your face was gone and replaced with a frown. Tears welled in your eyes and it made Severus's heart ache.
"Shut your mouth, Minerva! You have no right to talk about her like that."
Severus was furious. He believed Minerva's words must be hurting your feelings, that you were sad because of her caustic words. Severus would never let anyone hurt you. Minerva sighed heavily and shook her head. She just wanted to save Severus before it was too late.
"Please, Severus. You need to let her go. She's in a better place now."
Minerva said, before leaving him. Severus stood there, not knowing what to do now. He looked at you and noticed that you were crying.
"Y/N, my love, why are you crying?"
He was worried about you, his heart was aching at the sight of your tears. You smiled sadly at him and shook your head.
"Minerva was right, darling."
"What?"
You walked towards Severus and caressed his face with your cold hands. You shut your eyes tightly and let him wrapped his arms around your waist.
"You have to let me go."
Severus felt as if his heart was ripped out of his chest as he heard your request. He shook his head vigorously and tightened his grip on your waist.
"No, Y/N! I love you, and only you. I don't know what to do without you."
He cried out. You wiped away his tears and kissed his jaw softly and buried your face into his chest.
"Who are we to fight our written fate, Severus?"
You asked whilst drawing circles on his back with your finger. Severus could feel your fresh tears on his robes but he didn't want to let you go. He wanted to stay that way forever, holding you in his arms with you being so safe and sound.
He felt complete with you.
"No, Y/N.."
"I love you, Severus. But we can't keep seeing each other like this anymore."
It was painful, but it was the truth. He could not live in these sweet denials any longer. You looked up at Severus. His eyes were red and swollen, all because of you.
"I'm not here. I'm in your head and you need to let me go."
You spoke softly. Severus took your hands in his and kissed your knuckles, showing how much you meant to him. Every single thing about you— he loved all of them.
"I love you, Severus. We will meet soon, but not now."
You smiled. Severus kissed your forehead lovingly and lingered there for awhile. He inhaled your scent and promised himself that he wouldn't forget you.
"Do I have to let you go?"
He asked. You nodded weakly.
"Yes, my love. You have a life to live. Live for me, and I'll always be here—"
You put a hand on his chest and smiled at him.
"In your heart."
You said, before fading away from his sight. Severus didn't want to let you go, but he had to.
"I love you."

Severus woke up in the middle of the night, sitting up in his bed, panting hard as he looked around his room. He was alone and no one was there to comfort him.
"Y/N, where are you?"
He almost whimpered as he remembered you. He put his head in his hands and cried. He would not let his walls crumbles in front of others but behind the closed doors, he was vulnerable.
"How long do I have to live without you?"
Severus was alone, thinking that he would never experience love but then you came. You came like a light, brightening the darkness of his life. But then, you were taken away from him. You were robbed from his love and again—
He was alone. He waited the day that he could finally be with you again.
