young! severus snape x reader

"Severus, how are you feeling today?"
You asked, plopping down on the couch beside him. It was late so the common room was almost empty, leaving both of you and some other students who were talking among them. Severus sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
"Are you still thinking about Lily?"
You cocked your eyebrow, tempted to lecture him about moving on from somebody who did not love him back. However, you knew that your endeavour to knock some sense into him would only be a backlash against you, who was stuck with the memories of your ex boyfriend.
"I don't want to think about her, Y/N. But I saw her almost every day. It hurts."
He mumbled, frowning slightly. You let out a sigh, dropping your head on his shoulder. Severus rested his head on top of yours, shutting his eyes as you brought comfort to him.
"I completely understand how you feel."
You mumbled under your breath, almost inaudible to his ears if you were not sitting so close to him. Severus' eyes fluttered open, looking at you in disbelief.
"Please don't tell me this is about him."
He began, referring to your ex boyfriend that he hated so much until he did not want to say his name. He said he was disgusted, and he never wanted to get the name out of his mouth. You always laughed when he insulted your ex boyfriend, making you feel better about yourself.
"No, this isn't about him. I'm totally fine."
You beamed at him, but Severus did not fully trust you. Behind the gleam in your eyes, there was unspeakable sorrow that only Severus could tell from the way your beautiful orbs did not sparkle like they used to.
"You're a horrible liar. I've known you far too long to be able to tell, Y/N."
He smirked, proud that he could read you like a book. You rolled your eyes dramatically, crossing your arms against your chest.
"I was asking about you, Sev. Not about me."
"Well, now I'm asking about you."
He retorted, and you wanted to wipe the smirk off his face so bad. You groaned in annoyance, realising that you had to tell him the truth.
"You don't have to deal with your problems alone, Y/N. I'm here for you."
"You're very sweet."
You chirped, hoping that your compliment would make him forget about the whole thing. However, he shook his head and waited for you to talk. You sighed in defeat, nodded weakly at him.
"I miss him. I know I shouldn't, but I do."
Your heart was aching, and it pulled on his heart strings to know that his best friend was sad.
Severus could still remember the day when you came to him crying, because your ex boyfriend broke up with you. His imprudent excuse was because you were away most of the time for school, and him being a muggle, he would not understand anything. Your heart-wrenching sobs would forever be engraved in Severus' mind, and he never wanted you to face that kind of pain anymore.
"You deserve someone better, Y/N. He's just a stupid muggle who doesn't know how to appreciate you."
Severus said, knowing that he had nothing good to say about your ex boyfriend. If he ever met that boy, he was going to strangle him to death for breaking your heart.
You smiled at his words, scooting closer to him. Usually you would be angry if he ever insulted muggles, but you had to admit that the one you dated was really stupid, thus you just let it be.
"Perhaps you're right, Sev."
"I'm never wrong. Plus, I think your parents will not be too happy to know that their precious daughter is crying over some muggles."
He joked, but both of you knew that a part of his words was true. Your pureblood parents were not prejudiced against muggles, but they were not keen to have them as a part of the family either.
"My father will have a heart attack if he ever knows."
You said, leaning against his arm as laughter escaped your throat. Severus' heart was at ease when he heard your laughs, knowing that you were slowly forgetting your useless ex boyfriend.
"My daughter is associating with muggles? What a disgrace."
He mocked your father's voice, making a wave of laughter erupted in your chest. You knew your father would never say those words, knowing your father he would say something more kind, but still have the same meaning.
"You sound like Malfoy."
You pointed out, grinning at him. Severus raised his eyebrows when you mentioned about the prefect of Slytherin house. The older boy had been pursuing you, but you did not spare him a glance because you were busy moping around your ex boyfriend for almost a year now.
"You should give Lucius a chance, Y/N."
You rolled your eyes at his words. But your eyes widen when you realised how serious Severus was.
"He's a jerk sometimes, Severus."
"But if I remember correctly, you did say that you thought he was dashing."
He teased, and your face turned red at his comment. Well, he was right. You really thought Malfoy was good looking, and even if he was being a jerk, he was always a gentleman to you.
"You better give him a chance real quick, Miss L/N. It's his final year, you won't be able to see him after this."
Severus continued to tease you, making you hit his arm playfully. Suddenly, you thought of something and a smirk found its way on your face.
"You should give that Ravenclaw girl a chance, Sev. She's crazy about you."
You mumbled, taking him by surprise as if he never thought that you would know about it. He cleared his throat, and you chuckled at his reaction.
"I know her, Sev. She's prettier and smarter than Lily. It will be a total upgrade."
You added, a steady blush ran across your best friend's cheeks. Severus always had a hard time to believe that somebody would fancy him thus it was your responsibility to boost his confidence.
"We were talking about you, Y/N."
"No, thats' not fair! If you give her a chance, then I'll give Lucius a chance. Both of us deserve better, don't you think?"
You grinned at him. Severus thought about your words for awhile and nodded weakly. You were right, he should stop thinking about a girl who rejected him. He had to admit the Ravenclaw girl was perfect, it was almost too good to be true when he knew that she liked him.
"I think I'm going to talk to her."
He whispered, and your eyes widen in shock. You squealed and patted his back.
"You should! Go get your girl, Sevy."
Your high pitched voice surprised a few other students who was in the common room. Severus put his face in his hands and groaned.
"You're embarrassing yourself, and you're embarrassing me."
He complained, and you just laughed.
"You're my best friend. You're supposed to deal with the second-hand embarrassment."
You said, shrugging your shoulders. Severus fought back a smile but he failed miserably when his eyes landed on you who was looking as excited as ever. It seemed like you had finally forgot about your ex boyfriend.
"Slytherin and Ravenclaw make a powerful couple, Sev."
You gushed, and your best friend was tired of your teasing. A smirk was dancing on your lips as you continued to tease him. It was fun to see him all flustered.
"Your future children are going to be gorgeous and intelligent."
"Alright, Y/N. That's too far. Enough."
You giggled when you saw how frustrated he was with your playful words.
"I would be devastated if you don't name one of them after me, Sev."
"No, I won't. You're too chatty, I don't want my children to get your annoying antics."
"Oh, so you have thought about your future children with her? That's good to know!"
"That's not what I mean to— You know what? I'm going to bed. Good night, Y/N."
You laughed as you watched him go back to his dormitories. He turned around to look at you with a soft smile, and you waved at him. Both of you needed that night's conversation, to end the waves of regret and replaced it with brand new chance in love. Your best friend was ready to move on, and so were you.
It was not easy to walk away from the pit of sorrow, but you knew it was easier when you had your best friend with you. Thus, both of you stick together even after Hogwarts, knowing that you and him could not survive being apart from each other.
He was always there with you, just as you were always there with him; including the moment when you practically forced him to name his daughter after you (he still hoped that she would not be as noisy as you), and the moment when he basically convinced you and Lucius to make him as your son's godfather.
Perhaps his daughter and your son could be best friends like you and him. However, you secretly wished they could be more than best friends though, but Severus did not need to know that.
